I own a 55 Thunderbird and have been looking for a video of how to get the dash light switch out and repair my 55. I have the same problem. Excellent video!!!

what a great video, I have a 49 Frazer Manhattan, and for a year I have been sorting other things and driving it without dash lights. My dashboard is also very difficult to access, so I just tried spraying under and all over where the connection should be, but basically without seeing what I was doing. I then went for a ride, forgetting the dash, and upon my return 30 min later I remembered and tested it...and there they were! Dashboard lights! They are not very strong, so I'm not sure wether they were like that, or is it old bulbs, or weak connection, but I can investigate that. The easiest repair ever. Thanks!

@@fabianlapalme6544 I found it that the switch was not working correctly because I had mounted it in a way that was keeping to two contacts from touching. I had removed some trim and it was now too thin…hard to explain….anyway a couple washers stacked fixed my problem. You could check your fuse, then if that doesn’t work replace your headlight switch (relatively cheap) if it still doesn’t work I would guess maybe a broken wire. I don’t know about 70’ but in 68’ it’s a blue and black wire coming off the fuse box that feeds the dash lights. I think I did a few videos that might go over this but I can’t remember for sure. Hopefully that helps

HI Sam, TGIF. As a new 1955 baby bird owner, your videos are most helpful. My next project is working to find out why my turn signals have decided on a whim to not work. I ordered the wire diagram booklet. We will see if I can figure it out Thank you Ron

Very common problem. Our suggestions: start with the easy stuff, like making sure your turn signal bulbs are not blown (if it is a 12V battery and 6v bulbs, they'll eventually blow.) Then check to see if the bulb sockets or ground have corrosion or have been painted. You'll need to see if you have power going to the flasher, which (if our memory serves, but it often fails us) comes from the light switch. Often it will come down to corrosion on the contacts on the turn signal switch itself. Remove the two screws behind the steering wheel spokes holding the horn push, then pull the center nut and remove the steering wheel you can then expose the turn signal head unit. If need be, you can unscrew the signal lever and expose/clean the contacts with a contact cleaner spray.
