Five years since I mulched a weedy field, compare with this video of my first summer in 2013 • NO DIG ABUNDANCE, a we... .
No dig means surface feeding of soil organisms, which then aerate soil and make food available to plants: see how this results in my abundance of veg, fruit and flowers, and few weeds. Discover more in my other videos including fourth summer • No dig with Charles Do...
I have written nine books and there is much free information on my website www.charlesdow....
Filmed & edited by Edward Dowding edowding.net, August 2017.
The early photos of me are by Stephanie Hafferty who helped so much with my move in 2012/13, with ideas, encouragement and help. I now have around 40 hours help a week in the growing season, and give about 40 hours myself. The garden is 3/4 acre/3000m2, of which a third is cropped for vegetables and some fruit.
For a quick and concise outline of how to achieve harvests like I do, I recommend my Diary book which we ship worldwide www.charlesdowd..., or it may be cheaper to buy from Amazon in your country.
For another take on Homeacres' no dig, see Huw Richards' film of August 2017 • Incredibly Productive ...

Dear Mr. Dowding, I wanted to pass you a quick message and don't expect a reply, but I wanted you to know how much I've appreciated your advice and wonderful videos. For the first time in my life, my significant other and I had a big salad tonight with everything grown from our own garden. We had kale and young chard leaves, snow pea pods, sungold tomatoes that are finally coming in now, parsley, and our own carrots. It was one of the best salads of my whole life, the taste was amazing compared to what I've ever gotten in the store. I have you to thank for a lot of the instructions on how to get there, from compost to sowing, etc. We have enjoyed things from our garden in the past, but usually only one item at a time. It's been a long road to get where we are since the property was completely wild and covered with English ivy and other weeds. It's taken almost 2 years of work (and a lot of black plastic) to have a real garden, because the soil was so poor. I've learned to amend with used coffee grounds, worm castings, wood ash and what my pet chickens leave behind as well as the compost we've made. I loved your book "How to Create a New Vegetable Garden", and tips in that really helped. Your gentle nature, thoughtful advice and wonderful garden always inspire me to get back out and continue the fight with nature until I bring it under more control. You are very much appreciated way over here on the west coast of Oregon, USA. Your videos always bring a smile, and we look forward to a future with better overall health and better food. Thank you, sir.

I know all about the healing powers of the garden! A little over 3 years ago I was an alcoholic, addict and suicidal. Yesterday I sold some of the first vegetables from my garden and I'm planting as hard as I can. November 5th will be 3 years that I have been sober and clean. I'm the happiest I've ever been

The sheer beauty and personal satisfaction of taking a plot of ground and turning it into a little Garden of Eden! I believe gardeners have to be the happiest and most satisfied people on earth. I would encourage all who are just getting started in the gardening process to stay with it for a few seasons. You won't regret working the process of making great soil and growing beautiful and tasty vegetables, herbs, and flowers! Besides, the connection you will experience with your natural surroundings will truly enrich your life. If all men and women became active gardeners, there would be no inclination for greed, power, and war! Thank you Charles for these excellent and motivating gardening videos, keep them coming.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful simply beautiful I am experimenting with her method without digging because I am a woman, I live alone, I have no helper and I am 60 years old, but I can not go without planting. I'm using a bed of leaves first, about 10cm of various dry leaves, some twigs, then a layer of organic compost and then a mulch of dried leaves. It's working very well. Thank you for your teachings.

Charles, Thank you for all that you do. You commitment and passion are inspiring. I stumbled across your channel a few months ago and only wish I had done so before planting my spring market garden. After four and a half months of fighting weeds, battling pest on a half acre in Louisiana, I ripped it all out five weeks ago. As someone once sad, "a thousand mile journey starts with the first step". My first step was to apply your methods, Now with ninety six permanent beds, compost, plastic and cardboard mulch, the outlook for the fall and winter garden looks fantastic. The first crops in are already stunning and have had very little weed pressure. Thank you very much for the help you never knew you provided.

If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….🌹🌹

I am happy you find it beautiful as that is an important part of my growing, and there is no doubt that plants in healthy soil look vibrant and appealing.

First thing I do in the morning is watch your videos, I knew I wanted to start a market garden but didn't know where to start from. You have cleared that for me, I'll start with composting. Secondly, you have the most lovable character and it shines through even in your videos. Love all the way from Uganda.

Your no dig method as been an inspiration here in Quebec Canada since four years and the soil quality improving incredibly fast. Forever gratefull. This video is well appreciated including the cooking segment. Looking foward to more appetizing culinairy ideas. Kindest regards, Lucie.

Wow thanks Charles for another lovely video. That you have gone from weedy field to such abundance in garden and in life after starting from scratch is truly inspiring...I too have to face new beginnings so it is moving to see yours and Steph's journey. To anyone who has not yet visited you at Homeacres, I'd say it really is even more beautiful than it looks on film and the day I spent with you is one I would heartily recommend others do too...keep on teaching and writing about growing and making fabulous healthy food and many, many thanks :)

Thanks Predrag, one day perhaps I come to Serbia, I need to create an extra month each year! Croatian tv are interested to film here so there should be some Balkan coverage of no dig abundance.
