We’re sailing around one of the most remote archipelagos in the world. Our fresh food stock is down to a couple of bendy carrots and a few cloves of garlic.
Nikki has several go-to meals that require no fresh foods, but they’re still tasty (according to us). Each week we get more than a few dozen requests for recipes, so we hope this one tickles your taste buds.
Join us as we sail to Fakarava while Nikki whips up some grub and mother nature stirs up a storm! A little sailing, a lotta cooking, one massive squall and a relaxing sunrise. Life at sea can be such a rollercoaster!

Love seeing all the little stuff of daily boat life like peeling carrots on the edge and boiling water in waves. Lots of practice and a dash of talent for sure. Dont get me wrong..love the underwater and land adventures so much too. I thought we were the only ones with a grumpy cat like that. Our Lulu has the same fur colors, same cattitude. 😾😸 Bless you and safe sailing!💖💖💖

It's fun at age 72 watching the youngin's learning the ropes in the kitchen. I've been making hummus for decades then suddenly it's available in the stores. Homemade is best, of course! I loved watching your lunch prep, what fun. You're really living large in your floating apartment! So spacious! Living so raw and close to nature's the best.

Pro tip, mix the oil and the lemon before hand till it emulsifys, falvour and texture becomes leagues better than if it's mixed all at once, annnd Best use Tahini sauce works better with hummus, well it's the original Middle Easten recipe. But Olive O. works too.

And Nikki’s cooking videos make me want to try everything she makes, I think Cleo needs some shore leave, getting kind of ornery . Boil bendy,carrots with a little sugar in the water dice em up and add to everything like rice and pasta works with celery too......ok it makes for a bit of work cleaning the pot but it beets...throwing anything away

And saving the oceans and our planet as its vegan. The number one reason for man-made methane gases zapping our oxygen and killing our reefs and fish is the animal production industries. Looking at vegan billionaires Elo Musk and Bill Gates, James Cameron create the Mars One Program is a scary truth. Reality is if we continue as we have been, we got 11 years, not 30. They just don't want us to panic. I went from meat and dairy to vegan with sometimes if access to own pole caught. fish. never been healthier and happier too. We do not have the luxury any longer to turn a blind eye. Let people eat what they want.

Where does MOST methane come from? Decaying vegetation, wetlands and swamps. Cows... 1/25. Look it up. High Glucose is the 2nd biggest killer on the planet. Carbs.

Great video, loved to see some of what it is like on passage! My wife, Danielle and I worry about how we will handle passage, especially long ones like when we want to go from Los Cobos to Hawaii. Food will also get interesting as the provisions go low, Danielle is so creative, it's all about seasoning your rubbery carrots.

Yes cumin is a must for hummus , also some cayenne pepper. Carrots, try cutting slightly thinner and pickling them . Do a big batch.. use a little salt, sugar and vinegar. You can also add other flavours like herbs and spices. Fresh ginger and chilli work really well. Full sails to you both.

Love your "filming" skills. I steal more screen shot stills from your vids than anyone else (for my own use in a slideshow). Hummus is a great pallette for creative dips. We like 2-3 Tbs Siriracha and 4-5 cloves of garlic. Or chili powder, cumin, Franks hot sauce. Or Italian style. Or asian style. Or...or...or. Possibilities are unlimited, dip is healthy.

you can substitute Peanut bytter for Tahina. With the other ingredients being lemon juice, salt, pepper, oil, parsley and Tahina, peanut butter works great.

Tahini does add a flavor but I never buy it in a jar. Raw sesame seeds store well. You just toast them in a dry pan until they’re fragrant and then chop them up in your little food processor with a little olive oil. Try it, you won’t regret it.

Great to see how 'our' intrepid adventurers actually cope with the simple tasks, like preparing food good enough to eat! Lots of fish in the ocean and probably a thousand ways to cook it up with basic veggies to get you by...... Take the good with the bad...reflect on the ocean, the sunsets and just being out there doing what most of us really wish we could! May there be favourable winds and a following sea...really enjoy ALL the videos, my weekly escape is great medicine. Keep safe and well....

Guys this video is, to me, an amazing video! why? you guys are demonstrating how to engage the audience, not only Nikki was giving a cooking class on how to make hummus, but also, she was answering possible thought on her recipe (I was thinking about the recipe when she said "I know some of you..."), while at the same time the cameraman was on it with the shots. Then you guys decided to show us how strong the wind was, well done, because I also thought about that while watching the video. I had to stop the video in my TV and run to my computer upstairs to wright about it. Anyway, thank you!!!

Almond milk. soak 1 cup of almonds over night blend with 3 cups water in morning, strain in nut bag, 1 or 2 more cups water re strain. sweeten with dates, honey,stavia,agave. dry pulp (grind, coffee grinder) make bread, cookies. u can add frozen bananas + for great ice cream or smoothie.

Am not surprised that Jason mentioned the dish was undersalted. Pasta cooked in unsalted water is not very appetising, even with pesto and balsamic vinegar. Happy sailing.

Nikki, is your food processor an accessory set where the top (motor) attaches to several types of appliances for a multi-purpose gadget. Very cool if it is. Might be nice to see a video on multi-purpose gadgets for space saving in a small space. thanks for all the great videos.

Have you ever considered using an Air fryer to cook with? For just two people they are ideal for some uses and easy to clean. Good thing is you would not need to hold on to it like a pot while you cook.

Great video as always👏👏👏 I have a great question for you, what happens when the boat gets hit by lightning? Does it damage electronics? Are the dry or interior areas safe and shock resistant? Is it dangerous to you or the fur Babies? Does the lightning hit the water near by you rather then your mast, which should be the tallest thing around? Soooo many questions that relate to the lightning! Perhaps the subject would make for an amazing formative video🙏 Cheers guys, may the winds always be in your favor!

Nicky is always classy, It would be great if you could showcase all the different plant foods and wild herbs you find on the islands, use for making meals and their medicinal qualities. Like Markus Rothkranz did with his herb books. I and many would buy it for sailing around and home meal prep.

In place of the tahini You could use sesame seed oil I have used it before and it worked well , it can also be used for Asian dishes.

Hey Nikki, that Pasta dish looked yummy. I make my Hummus much the same way but i add just a wee bit of sesame oil in place of the Tahini sesame paste for added flavor. Some recipes call for cumin but i don't see how that adds to the flavor myself. I like to take big flour tortillas and score them with a knife then put them on top shelf of my Genuine Imitation Mr. T Convection oven to toast them The pre scoring makes them easy to tear apart into nice chip like sizes.

They do but have never used the propane stove on the boat and didn't use it in the RV either. Nikki doesn't like the added heat or moisture it produces, and refilling the propane tanks can be a pain on the boat. Your obervations are spot on. This video is a prime example of how this channel is mainly used to showcase items available on thier Amazon a$$ociation storefront. Almost every video produced is a situation that involves several items they're conveniently hawking on their Amazon Gear Store. A more appropriate name for this channel is "Sailing with the Roncos" & rename the boat to "Popeil of the Sea". These freeloaders are shameless!

@@MegaJman72 I didn't know that I was to read their website to first understand their sailing situations are staged to help financially fund their unrealistic example of the typical sailing lifestyle. Then the whole premise of tropical island hopping and reef exploration makes perfect sense that no fresh fruit, veggies, roots, & edable fresh sea life is available is a justifiable ruse? IMO, the Wynns are true practitioners of the P.T. Barnum theory of marketing, and you demonstrate proof.

@@RuSomeKindaIdiot Well, what you see here is basically "television" - much like you'd see on cable - and television needs funding. They advertise to stay afloat. (Pardon the pun.) What I don't like about cable TV is the constant barrage of ads, when you've already paid for the service. Personally, I think the Wynns put a lot of resources into making high quality videos, which is something I can't say for a lot of content on RU-vid (and yet the amateurish content is also monetized). My 2c, anyway. :)

@@drinkinslim Strongly agree with most of what you have to say. But based on my observations it seems the theme of most of their videos are staged to promote product. In other words, if the reality of their current situation doesn't allow for sales promotion, then they create one that does. I have no problem with someone flat out asking for financial support if I like their product. But IMO their presentation of reality is more often then not geared towards sales by association. Hey I'm a freemarket capitalist but there are impressionable people here that really think that because the Wynns post a title "No Fresh Food" that the tropical reefs are devoid of fish. They even insert a shot of a lonely fishing rod in waiting. Look at some of the endtimes comments here. Then a handful of their "Amazon Gear Store" products are used to save the day, how obvious! They claim all of their products are personally tested by them before they're recommended. Have a look at how the pot of boiling pasta water wants to slide off that induction plate they profit from selling you. One hand is somewhat obscured holding the handle while a towell is nonchalantly tossed at the base of the steeming pot to help prevent a potentially a serious injury at sea. My takeaway from this is that this devise is too dangerous to be used in a rolling & pitching boat galley, but hey the show must go on... I've spent way too much time putting forth my opnions of this channel that seems to have no problem with creating whatever reality is most conductive to providing them an income. They have every right to do so. I have every right to my opnions and to say Caveat Emptor! End of Rant!

Nikki did that to dishes in the RV to keep them from chipping underway but I don't know if they still have those dishes or if she's put silicone on these. The cat is pretty stable & they usually don't need anti-slip but it looked a little bumpy in this video! Curious Minion

Nikki why did you keep putting the green and yellow mat under the pot? Was that to regulate the heat or control the cooking by breaking contact on an induction burner? Is the mat silicone? Thanks!

Great video....as always. I am curious about the cat food. You must have to bring a fair bit along. Are you concerned with dry food spoiling? How do you store it? I’m also sure you supplement with the odd tasty can of wet and fish....when caught 😝.

They used to stock up on bags of dry food (and litter!) and keep the bags in a sealed storage container. But now Cleo is on a special diet and Nikki makes their food. Fresh fish, a few veggies, some brown rice. That's why Cleo is so grumpy in this video - now she thinks ALL the boat cooking is for her and wants them to hand it over! Curious Minion

No Tahini? Always carry a couple of bottles of sesame oil which is also great for stir frying. Please use more salt, at least enough to make food tasty. Since I am not a vegan nor picky, when I used to sail, I carried lots of canned chicken, canned tuna, canned meat ravioli, canned sweet potatoes, pasta, canned veggies and rice. Canned Vienna sausages and canned baked beans are also great.

that’s a lot of food. how do you save the left overs? also please show us your pressure cooker? can you just use a crockpot? must someone always be at the helm on passage? can you just use autopilot and that thing that warns of other ships nearby?

So many questions! In order: They have a 12v fridge for leftovers. To see the pressure cooker and more of their favorite things, go to the gear store on the blog. There's a tab for "kitchen favs" and the pressure cooker's on the top line: www.gonewiththewynns.com/store I don't think Nikki owns a crockpot. On passage you can leave the helm for short periods of time because they do have an autopilot, but someone needs to always be on watch to adjust sails if the wind shifts, and to look for approaching bad weather, small boats (which don't always show up on radar depending on the weather conditions & sea state), and debris in the water (like trees and shipping containers that fall off cargo ships. Yes, those both happen.). Whew! 😀 Curious Minion
