I first learned that o soto setup from Sensei Eren Yeager. He used it slip past an opponents punch, locked in the head and arm clinch and then threw them down hard. He was really a Titan of a judoka
Brother after 7 Months of Bjj with great coaches I try Judo and fell in love with it. I mean the fights the training Randori and stuff are just so beautiful. I’m lucky to say that my coach is a old German World champion in Judo&Sambo it’s not on of those fancy dojo stuff things where they give you belt for money, hard work and glad for me much newaza so I don’t really miss Bjj. But I think Judo need an update, more like real fighting situations more No Gi work and more grappling. And I wish so bad that judoka will be free to make Leg takedowns.. Higashi maybe it’s time to create an new Judo era with all the good stuff before these Olympic rules and new systems like no Gi ? I think you’re great master and you have enough followers for that.. go for it brother
If you have to have that, Freestyle Judo fights with the mid 90s rule set, but even that was still IJF/Olympic rules. It sounds like what you want is complete Judo (competitive Judo is lots of fun but only scratches the surface) and what I mean by that is the full study of the art which has always had to be dialed back for competition, talk to your instructor/s and find out how far down the rabbit hole he/they are willing or able to take you, if he/they are genuine old school they will either know what you want to learn or know who to network with to teach you.
I love judo too I started in 3 months ago but I started jj October 2021. I wanted to start judo at that time but I couldn't get in touch with anyone so I went with an mma gym with two former ufc guys it was a terrible experience I didn't learn anything terrible teachers with attitudes. Out of everything I've tried mma jj and judo. Judo is my favorite
Never done judo but I wrestled for a long time and some things to help that throw by (elbow drag) you need to snap the head down a couple of times to put them off balance then hit the throw by. Remember you both have the same collar tie so your opponent can hit the same moves so a setup really makes a difference
Hello there, I am French judoka and my English is good but not perfect also I have never wrestled. I don't understand your message, I don't know if it's a lack of vocabulary or wrestling experience, but could you reformulate it, please?
man I just changed school for another martial art and all my friends coach are gone I just got a very big trauma like the another school isnt coming real to me and I cant dream of your feelings too sad man
I teach tang soo do and started judo a little over a year ago. Judo would complement TKD really well because if they get past your kicks you have another line of defense. The two also overlap very little, so they don't interfere with each other.
We do old school tkdplus hapkido and judo, makes for comprehensive martial arts - our first grand master instructor came to USA in the late 60’s , was master level in tkd, judo, and hapkido, it’s been a great experience trying to absorb all that ability. Moo Sul Kwan. A lot of people have this misconception that tkd is just kicks, maybe it’s because we always had hapkido and judo , but our tkd has elbows, knees, yea lots of kicks… but from the hapkido there is special low kicks and strikes special for self defense can’t use in sparring and from hapkido and judo,we have all the throws, joint manipulations, chokes, sweeps, ground work, and we do Randori. Personally I think jujitsu is worthless in comparison to judo, with karate or old school tkd for self defense. Unless caught off guard, I would never grapple in self defense as self defense to me means readiness for multiple opponents, with judo you are learning to handle the close up attack standing up, stay on your feet as much as possible, break grip and throw , choke, arm bar, - with hapkido same but also attacking joints and strike or throw, - tkd you keep ‘‘em back qnd hit hard if they penetrate you move and if they get a grip you can handle that from the judo/ hapkido. A lot of kids these days get caught up in the jujitsu fad, like it’s something special to go to the ground, in my opinion that’s the worst thing to do and the schools I’ve heard of do long term contracts and it’s more of a business instead of martial arts. Anyway, yes find an instructor with well rounded skills but don’t discount your tkd experience, for self defense there is nothing better than a good side kick, I’ve used mine more than once in multiple opponent situation, even been attacked by a small gang in the dojang after class! Usually you have a big mouth in front of you talking trash and another tries to come up behind with a punch, SIDE KICK !!!
I took judo when I was 7-8 and the very first thing we were taught was TKD punching and kicking techniques, we didn’t even learn falls until we knew how to hold a striking stance
Thank you so much Shintaro, I have a no gi BJJ competition coming up on November 4th, and this is PERFECT since i am not comfortable with basic BJJ take-downs
Great channel. I thought I heard a fellow NYer. Check the bio and sure enough. Wish I was still there as I would definitely check out your Schools because of your comprehensive grappling background. Great breakdowns and I like the way you explain the moves from multiple arts/perspectives. I come from a wrestling background and I am working on augmenting it with some Judo and these videos are helping. Thanks for your time.
I've always had the most success in no-gi (BJJ only) with some form of uchi mata, mostly from an overhook since people tend to expect it slightly less than when you're driving hard for an underhook
Actually that was one of my favorite movies to work into a throw all the time when I used to wrestle. We used to use different Termanology to describe the throw. But it’s the exact same thing.
@@1massboy You better believe I was watching PLENTY of footage of Buvaisar Saitiev's famous whizzer kick as well. Talk about a finely honed instrument, that guy was a machine.
Thank you Shintaro, I am interested in the application of judo techniques without holding on to clothing, it is good to be able to adapt the techniques to different situations and to make them versatile, for example as a self-defense for someone who is not wearing a shirt or jacket, because If I've never practiced no gi judo, I wouldn't know many ways to grab someone with no clothing on their torso. Is judo no gi useful so that judo is not limited to people who only wear clothes
@@alLEDP In the sauna, that's disgusting, but it can happen that someone tries to attack you in a sauna, just thinking that you use ippon seoi nage against someone naked is disgusting if it's against a man. Could you save the comment . I was referring more to beach or summer situations when people normally don't wear a lot of clothes or go without shirts
Impressive throwing techniques and grappling judo is incredible but I can also teach ground fighting as well nevertheless it is a very cool martial arts on learn to use properly it could save a life if the situation calls for it but nice moves 🥋💪😉👍🥋
Very interesting video : No Gi judo is rarely to find, and besides, it is better in my opinion and more fluid than classical judo with judogi. At this point, the old traditionnal japanase jujutsu was judo no gi, so this back to the roots is good, and more useful for wrestling, grappling or MMA fighting, at modern combat sport. Thanks for the techniques in this video : the Soto Gari is traditionnal and very important first move to assimilate and without judogi, he is not easy when we begins judo no gi, so thanks ❤
I am a Kickboxer and I prationed Judo when I was a kid. What are some easy throws I could do wearing gloves or gi? Maybe from a clich? Ashi waza is good. Sweeping is ok. How about the upperbody? Which is easier? Seoi nage? I know its illegal in Kickboxing, even in Muay Thai. Its for self defense. I feel like I need a tool from Judo. (Do I need to invert my stance to grapple better?)
Nice video but can't help but correct what you demonstrated as a, "throw-by" is in fact a slide-by, and the variation you referred to as a "pass-by" is a throw-by
My only issue with this is that head and arm trap position seems so ridiculously dominant, seems to me doesn’t matter what you do from there and all that mattered was getting there.
