Quick note about this series! Bioshock, as it turns out, contains a LOT of copyrighted music. So there will be at least one instance in each video of 1-2 minutes where the audio is a little "off" - this is because I had to remove the background music in certain sequences. I tried to preserve as much as I could though! Thanks for watching
Your efforts are appreciated John, love that you are playing a greater variety of games these days, your none horror game play throughs are some of my favourites, Doom 2016 didn’t get the viewership it deserved. You might enjoy Prey 2017 assuming you haven’t played it, it’s kinda like Bioshock and Dishonoured had a baby very much a play your way make your way experience or put simply it’s an immersive sim.
Came down to the comments to ask about the audio specifically haha, thanks for preempting that. Sorry you had to deal with those issues but it's fun to revisit this game! Been an absolute age since I played so I've forgotten a great deal of it by now.
Fun Fact: The reason Jack can "see ghosts" is that Adam can still have the DNA of previous users because of how it's recycled. The ghosts are actually memories of the people that used your Adam before you got to it.
The only game I ever played as a kid that my dad sat down and watched me play everytime I turned it on. He was an arcade kid and the only 3D game he played was Doom, so this game opened his eyes to how incredible in atmosphere and writing modern games were.
@@RahulkumarMakNah just like John said this is a top 20 game of all time. And this is getting more views than all his other games. So too bad your opinion doesn’t matter
The one thing I do EVERY TIME when replaying this game is after getting out of the water, I watch and wait and watch the tail of the plane go under the water 😂
I tried to get through this game alot when I was younger and for whatever reason I never could...I honestly think it creeped me out too much, idk. Not being able to then ruined me ever getting into the other games. I can't explain how stoked I am to see you replaying this and being able to "play" the game 17 years later.
I rescued all the sisters my first play and wanted to harvest the second time, but I just found the animation too disturbing and just rescued the rest of them. I credit this game with something Gary loves: sound effects. The hack sound effects play in my head to this day and are a classic “player do good thing”
1:52 I so totally agree. I accidentally walked in on my cousin playing it before I had ever played a video game. I sat and watched him play totally transfixed. Years later, I saved a copy of a Game Informer about the sequel when I saw it in a GameStop because I had never learned the name of the game. But I immediately recognized the art style and knew they were related. Once I was old enough to buy my own computer, BioShock and Infinite were a couple of the first two games I bought. I basically have the entire game memorized by this point. So I guess I want to say thank you for replaying this.
Looks like I'm getting one of the best experiences having never played or watched Bioshock gameplay. I was NOT expecting to go underwater to a whole city holy cr- I'm excited!
Netflix are making a Bioshock movie supposedly..thank you for playing this, even if I did vote for it on the charity stream, I usually re play it once a year myself, the console version is kind of janky too lol
Looking through my subs and seeing this pop up was the most excitingly delightful surprise of the month This is still one of my favorite games since I played it as a kid and I'm excited to watch someone play it for the first time rather than be behind the controller
No way! Bioshock was one of my first xbox games I got super into as a kid. On top of that, with John playing this is game this series is going to kick ass. Super excited to see all the goofs to come.
John! Thank you for your commitment to trying to keep this spoiler free. I know it’s an old game, but I’ve never played it before. I know it’s a huge favorite in the community, and I’m so excited to see why. 💗
This game came out when I started watching let's plays and I like to rewatch a playthrough every 2-3 years because it is such a great game. Thank you for providing a new playthrough for me to watch!!
No way!! Oh man this is gonna be a great playthrough I already feel it, I absolutely loved your old Bioshock playthrough and I'm looking forward to this one!
It's been AGES since I've seen this game!! I don't even know if I ever finished watching it (was too scared at the time to play it myself, although I tried haha). No spoilers from me, I'm glad to be rewatching it :)
John you play this exactly how i play this i explore every little nook and cranny not only for the loot and lore but also to appreciate all the details and environments
Can't wait to see more. Tried playing one of these games years ago but it scared me too much - and I'm generally awful at FPS games! Very pleased to follow along on John's playthrough. I wanted to love this game so much!
Bioshock was one of the very first games I played on the ps3 when it came out, I was a lot younger then and it’s a super nostalgic game for me, I’ll need to replay it myself some time soon too!
I knew a guy in college who was a _huge_ Ayn Rand bro, he knew he was the clever special boy, etc. and he LOVED this game like it was made just for him. It was interesting to watch him just Not Get It. But it's a great game and he was happy, so hey, good times. I'm excited to see it again after so long!
I just watched a video essay on Bioshock recently and was planning replaying it, but I can'tfind the time. So when you were making references to it during your recent (not)lethal company video I was like "wouldn't it be cool if John replayed it" so rly I gotta thank the stream viewers for voting for this!!!
Lol it's so fun to see this game again, I played it a long time ago and I didn't remember how chaotic it was to see the enemies launch themselves at you while saying random things
I'm glad that you're playing Bioshock 1, John! It is an amazing game that has a special place in my heart. And I love the reference to Pipe Dream/Pipe Mania (28:50). I grew up with playing the OG pipe game too and when I played Bioshock, the hacking mini game got me all nostalgic, but I couldn't remember the name of the game.
I just bought the bioshock collection because its on sale and I'm playing the original ver! But since I'm a scaredy cat, I stopped midway and came here to watch you play first then I'll continue lol I didn't expect it to be scary from the get go
Atmosphere in this game is wonderful, and yeah it holds no punches. The first time I got the game years ago I had to put it down pretty quickly as well. 😂
Oh man, the intro and so many memories. I'm getting goosebumps. Thanks for this john. Makes me want to jump back into Rapture now! The game looks sooo good yet and the chilling music. I could keep going.
It's been a while since I watched this game, but I swear to get that key you have to look through the broken window beside the door and teleport the key to you with the telekinesis power. Might be confusing it with another area, but I am really enjoying the heck out of this replay, very happy!
Man this was such a nostalgia trip! i remember when i first played this as a teen and being absolutely blown away! One of if not my favorite game of all time!
I didn't come to the Bioshock series till much later, and because of that I have more of a soft spot for Infinite, but the world building is this game still holds up to this day. Rapture is such an interesting place full of detail and tragedy, it's cool to go back to it in this playthru!
Excited that you're playing Bioshock!!! And I somehow have never actually seen or played it, so a big thank you for trying to keep spoilers out of the comments
I've been so excited for your replay! I only remember the big plot twist and the ending, so I'm grateful to basically relive this amazing game all over again! Thank you!!!!
I got this game as a christmas gift when I was younger and had no interest in playing it, but once I started I was hooked and its easily one of my favourite franchises.
The chatterbox-y combat around 32:00 gave me a 3 second deja-vu feeling like Mother Gooseberry was about to show up. (Also that sign: "New Year's Day 1959"...knowing I'll be born in 10 more years gave me a right 'oof' to my heart, lol.) Thank You John for your daily uploads - I'm about to have foot surgery and while it's not serious, I'll have to be off of it for quite a bit; a Bioshock playthrough will be THE BEST MEDICINE!🎉☺
The first reveal of Rapture with the violin swelling reminds me of the first Outlast too after the priest immolate himself, so was this presentation at 8:52 and especially 1:12:15 , something straight out of the Outlast. This game was so influential to so many games, yet it's still underrated enough to not have been adapted into a live-action series or movies. That's crazy to think.
EDIT- I I just got done typing my first comment and John literally had to say what I did haha. Seriously one of the greatest intro.. sequences and openings ever
I knew this series was coming, but it was still such a pleasant surprise to see this video pop up on my home page! Enjoying it so far! And it's so dumb that people are so judgey about the Little Sisters lol. Can't wait for the next one! Thanks John :)
I've just been thinking of watching this game's playthrough again! I've forgotten about most of the details and it's nice to revisit it, through John again nonetheless
Yay! Thanks for playing this John! Was so excited to see this pop up! I know it’s too soon I’m sure but would love you see you play through the bioshock series! So stoked!
