Great tips, Dina. Designer here and an aspiring Etsy seller. Just wanted to add to the point you made at 8:30. Pretty vs usable. So, I bet I can speak for many designers with both formal education and work experience. Sometimes it's hard to design for customer, and what we end up doing is we "design for designers". Either spending too much time on things the customers won't care about or making the design too contemporary or too... "designer" 😆 It's like when you create a business card that looks PERFECT and the only feedback you get from your customer is "Can you make the logo bigger?" 😅 so when selling on Etsy, the "logo has to be bigger" from the start. Just need to get rid of that designer perspective and be a customer, who doesn't know what design is, other than the fact that it just makes things look good.

Wow, this is so interesting! I can totally understand this from a customer's point of view since I'm not a graphic designer. The example I'm thinking of is when I work with video editors sometimes, they do some crazy cool thing with the video and don't get me wrong, it's cool and everything, but not entirely necessary haha. I can see the same thing happening with graphic designers and their customers 😅

Design is problem-solving. Graphic design is aesthetic, sure, but it's storytelling and utility. You don't have to be a graphic designer who's professionally trained to be successful on Etsy or in business, but it's absolutely necessary to learn basic elements and hierarchy and some UX.
