My barber is one of the best and been cutting my hair for over 20 years. He’s old school and doesn’t do guidelines. To him it’s like cheating and being lazy. He’s a true master at this craft. I can tell you got some skills too the way you cut and explain. You’ve been trained well and have experience and knowledge. Props to you💯

Guidelines is like a puzzle. You have to cut hair along a line at the same length and then blend into the guard size higher or lower than that one. The key is to blend all the lines evenly and smoothly. The reason guidelines works so well is that it gives the barber a chance to check his/her work and ensure the transition is smooth. Now,some barbers can do what this man does and it works for him. Ultimately though the client is the one who should decide what he likes. On self cuts, I use guidelines all the time because it helps me blend both sides of my head evenly. Thanks for the video !

Me too. I think without the use of guidelines barbers rush the haircut and the blend will not be as smooth. The type of hair also matters. On some people there's more dark spots than others and it requires more blending and with guidelines you can see that better.

@jprimemfp2187
@jprimemfp2187 6 лет назад
Guidelines or not, its the same amount of time. Also, your method of blending does not give room for flicking out unless its near the crown, causing you to blend in 1/4th of a guard increments in the majority of the blend. Whereas with guidelines, you have better flick-out room so you can still pull out a clean fade and save time by blending in 1/2 or 1/3rd of guard increments. Jorge zepeda is a good example

Great video man! I'll have to give no guidelines a try. If you like the detailers and wahl, try out the cordless detailers. They got a lot of flack after they came out, but I ordered some up and absolutely love them. Much easier to use than my corded ones and much cleaner lines. My only complaint about them is they are a bit noisy.

Kann, Thank you so much for this video. Im two months into cutting hair and I love it, but I am having a hard time learning how to fade. I've been using the guideline method, but for some reason, my blends end up patchy. I have tried the no guideline method once before and it worked better for me than the guideline method. How did you learn the no guidelines method? Have you ever used the guideline method? Did it take long for you to master fading? I really need some inspiration from someone like you. Thank you for what you have done and what you are doing. You are really making a difference in peoples lives.
