Doesn't seem like it so I might as well do it myself lol So like obviously the main Wonderland theme goes throughout the whole thing 0:00 Wonderland Round 2 0:33 Round 3 0:49 bofa those 0:59 there's a little bit of The Wheel for some flavor! underrated track imo then uhh the lil bridge from Round 3 1:20 brings us back with R3 and The Wheel 1:52 Arms Outstretched 2:55 is Arms Outstretched + R2 Uhhh past that its basically everything else i've mentioned all swirled up into one cool finale! the final end bit takes direct cues from how Round 1 ends though. lol i used to do this list thing with homestuck songs as a hobby so this is hardly the most complex mashup ive ever logged like this
HOLY SHIT I CAN FINALLY LISTEN TO THIS. So here's my story: I stumbled upon this long before I got to The Suffering Game, and I briefly looked at the comments before leaving to avoid spoilers. All that I got is the general impression of "Arms Outstretched will make me cry". And sure enough, days upon days later (I was listening and reading the transcript at the same time), it was already such a tense moment, I was wondering how the whole situation is going to be solved, and I saw "Arms Outstretched by Griffin McElroy starts playing" AND I LOST IT. I ABSOLUTELY LOST MY SHIT. Basically, coming back to this now that I've finished Balance? Sure enough, I got chills the second I heard Arms Outstretched, and also this remix is an absolute blessing.
dude, i discovered this amazing podcast via "The Purple Worm" track and MY GOD, it was a perfect moment to listen to the fight. and also being unexpectedly rocked out by "The Clock Strikes Noon (Apocalypse)" was a magical moment for me too cuz i hadn't herd that track before i got to that episode and it SLAPS. SO. HARD.
I would like to think that after they beat The Hunger and stayed behind to protect Lucretia and went through all the stuff on the train in Nowhere they would've all given an exhausted and relieved sigh glad to be done and Lucretia turns to the group and holds out the ticket with a small smile "I think i'll take that free backrub now Magnus"
*"Guys! Have you heard of Wonderland! It's this amazing place where you play to win anything you could imagine! More riches than you can carry! Take it from me!" (A terribly wide smile spreads on on her face.) "Enough gold to found a Kingdom on!" (She giggles to herself with that same wretched smile)
I am curious as to how you managed to adapt this place for level 1 characters. They're too squishy and "new" for people to be attached to what they lose. I'm importing it into one of my campaigns, but I'm holding off until the party is level 10. That way, the characters can take more of a beating, AND the players will be attached enough to the characters that they will be horrified and saddened by the sacrifices they must make
Damian Freeman Jesus how would you even make lvl 1 players go through the suffering game?! That’s a joke. You need to be at least lvl 10 or higher to even appreciate the amount of “suffering” this will put on the PC. You can’t just throw them into this, they barely are attached to their characters. #baddm’s
I haven't listened to the TAZ soundtrack in a while. This song came up in my recommendations because I've listened to it before. I was JAMMING until Arms outstretched came on and made me cry 😭
God I loved experiencing this arc for the first time. The reaction of the boys as they realized the tone and difficulty of this arc was going to be radically different from anything that came before is so good. Although they aren’t the big bad, I still think Edward and Lydia are far more intimidating villains. Because the Hunger, although a universal scale threat, never really managed to do long lasting damage to the heroes. Meanwhile these two managed to a crazy amount of physical and emotional damage to all our heroes.
This sounds a distinct way you know what you are writing about. I came across this piece of music alone - and this begs the question to me: Would you kindly tell me what game, series, animation, video game or whatnot you're writing about? This sounds interesting, you do have my attention for this. Please.
@@GGorsty This is from the podcast role-playing game podcast The Adventure Zone, specifically the first major campaign, Balance. They’re currently on their 3rd major campaign, Graduation. I’d recommend starting with Balance, however.
the suffering game, stolen century, and story and song were all punches to the gut that came in quick and violent succession and we were surprised every time at the amount of emotional damage griffin could do to us
I wouldn't call it "quick", to us binging after the fact sure but you gotta remember that from Suffering Game Part 1 to Story and Song Part 3 was 301 days. They were actually all punches to the gut that came in very slow, violent succession.
This was my favorite moment in The Adventure Zone- the reveal that there was no healing in Wonderland, right after the big fight with the multiplying electrified monsters. As a DM, my jaw dropped.
@@Accordingtoallknownlaws My favorite arc is rockport limited since trains make the coolest set pieces in mysteries and fights, but this is gonna be a close second because of how they survived this hell and made out with all three of them still alive. (I'm counting magnus because with out the mannequin he was about to be trapped in the astral plane.)
What i would give to listen to balance for the first time again, the absolute thrill and dread and excitement that the suffering game had. I wish I could experience it all again, and I did when I heard this for the first time. Thank you for the chills 💕
@@couldntthink Taz is short for The Adventure Zone, an "actual play" Dungeons and Dragons podcast made by the three Mcelroy brothers and their dad. You can find it on Spotify and I believe the first episode is here on youtube as well. I highly, highly recommend all the Mcelroy content, and the adventure zone is a great place to start. Happy listening!
@@couldntthink Just to add a little more info so you know what you are getting into, The podcast is currently in the midst of its third major campaign. Each campaign is denoted by a single word title. This song is from Balance, the first of the campaigns. It has 69 episodes (nice) and was the very beginning of the podcast. Next came a bunch of mini-campaigns including Dust and Commitment. The second large campaign was DM-ed by the same person (Griffin McElroy) and is called Amnesty. It's not DND but it is an RPG dice-rolling game based off of monster-of-the-week type shows and games like Supernatural or Grimm or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The most recent campaign is called Graduation, run by Travis McElroy. It is DND and is set in a school setting. They aren't connected in any way so you can start wherever you want
Right? I started listening to it with my sister and we're on the Suffering Game arc right now, so I get to kind of experience listening to it for the first time vicariously through her.
Can we talk about Arms Outstretched? Griffin was desperately trying to kill someone off in The Suffering Game, trying to intensify the stakes for the big reveal of Barry. Griffin made a place where healing was forbidden, the whole point was to despair, but then, his family refused. His family, his brothers and father, rejected the despair plan. You want to take one of us? Well goddamn, the rest of us aren’t gonna take it laying down. Even to when the boys played perfectly, they got down to it and Griffin invoked Bad Luck. Bad luck will never, ever stop the power of love. Griffin’s plan was thwarted by the fact that these characters love each other so much, that the players would go to hell to get each other. It makes me so emotional, that Magnus was saved. It makes me more emotional that, on some level, it was Travis being saved by his father and big brother.
Griffin “sweet baby brother” McElroy tried so Goddamn hard to kill the absolute tank of Magnus Burnsides. He was so close too but then his brothers and father love and spite pulled them through and it’s truly and amazing audio experience.
As a dude just starting to listen to TAZ this remix is giving me the same vibes as when i listened to Judgement from the Devilman Crybaby ost as i began to watch it for the first time. Listening to lit tunes as the looming, foreboding threat of emotional pain drifts overhead. EDIT: finished the suffering game. Truly lives up to its name.
@@tripleteevee8122 Finished balance, have yet to start the other campaigns, but i still visit this mix regularly 'cause it's so good. Thanks for askin 👌
I'm only on Petal to the Metal and trying to avoid spoilers tbh but this music is just too good dude. I can't wait until I get further in the podcast 👀
Fun fact! This was the thing that finally convinced me to listen to TAZ Edit: Yea it’s been a week and I just got through the suffering game. I cried so much I dehydrated myself
Wow, nice. I thought the wave of TAZ fan music had died for a while. I'm glad to see that not only was I proved wrong, but that I was proved by a totally rad remix. Love it.
"That’s cheating! You know the rules: once you sacrifice something here, you don’t get it back!" Magnus: Oh yeah? Well the guy running the Fantasy Costco has clone of my body so... *flips them off and does a "up yours" motion*
LeaderLily its amazing The story doesnt really pick up until about the 3rd ark, but everything leading up to that is still hilarious and fun I highly recommend it if you still havnt started it
my friends got me into taz fairly recently and I powered through balance and dust and I honest to god cannot stop listening to this song!!!! It’s so perfect, it captures all of the energy that wonderland had, a sparkling, beautiful horror show, out to get the gang! Oh man I wish I could express how absolutely feral I go every time I hear that 3-2-1 let’s go! This is amazing!!!
anyways wonderland ripped my heart out and left it to fucking dry, and i am NOT EMOTIONALLY READY for the stolen century (the second most memorable moment aside from the moment when the liches say "There's no healing in Wonderland!" is when griffin just keeps. rolling. the. dice. for the monsters. my jaw fucking DROPPED. it was so good)
Haha I could totally try to do that! And Spotify because that's where I keep all my D&D playlists so I can just let them go or skip to a specific spot easily. Way easier than trying to organize it in multiple tabs/types/players.
Update! I just passed the spot in my campaign where I pulled this up (it's just a regular home game with my teenage kids and partner, nothing special), during a dramatic count-down before a gauntlet run of 3 players + 4 NPCs. I had the timing practiced and rehearsed so the description of the track would end with a countdown, syncing up with "3, 2, 1 lets go". The table went nuts. I didn't get to record it, but as soon as the medley started they all recognized this piece (it's one of their faves) and the mood in the room was absolutely wild. It totally set the stage for a crazy next 45 minutes. Perfect, perfect mix!! Thank you for helping make one of the best moments in our 7-month campaign!!
I was about to make a joke about no healing in wonderland because merle/Clint never does it but I just realized that’s like one of the most common inner party jokes Everyone knows a cleric who won’t heal
ggghhh that's the risk you take with anything new - with living and continuing to live. you risk experiencing what I'm going through now - being taken back in time by a sound and a sight. and wondering at the way time passes so quickly _twenty-seventeen_
Just wanna mention that this is my favorite TAZ medley and what I show to people when trying to make them listen; you capture what makes the wonderland art music my favorite, thank you for making this lovely piece
Why does the WORST* taz arc have the music that slaps the most??? I hate it here 😔 *(by worst I do not mean they did a bad job with it!!! From a quality standpoint they did great! I just Hate listening to it because it makes me viscerally uncomfortable listening to them suffer so much and like, them suffering is literally the Point of the arc. And some people enjoy those types of plots! Just misery and pain is not my cup of tea so it's my least favorite arc 🤷)
I’m still really early on in TAZ, and I’m in love with the podcast, I took a break from the balance arc and started dust, and these boys are so talented. I’m loving this remix, it’s cliche, but this is probably my favorite song
+ShrubRustle do you have a download link for this somewhere? It's honestly my favorite remix of the SUFFERING game music and I kinda want to be able to listen to it without having to use my data for Infinity Plus one time.
god this mix has really made online school bearable. i’ve got sensory issues so when i go back to in person school you KNOW this will be in my headphones
