Great video, my problem was Cruise Control would not light up on the dash. All buttons on steering wheel face worked, but when you press the cruise control button did not light up on the dash and did not work. All working 100%. Note, before replacing Clock Spring I replaced brake switch and cruise control switch that did not fix my problem.
Great video! I just took mine out, took the spiral cable apart, put it back together and it works just fine now. I think the problem with these things (like most electronics on these cars) is just a bit of corrosion. Hope this helps someone save some dough from buying a replacement they might not really need.
I'm glad you made this video. This is one of those projects that I have to get to sooner than later. My horn isn't working even after I tested the fuse and replaced the horn so now I am going to replace the clock spring but I was afraid to work around the air bag. It's not soon bad. Thanks again. P. S. - I'm glad you got the little guy to help. I used to get my kid to help out all the time. Those are the good times.
Thank you Marco Castillo .. don’t be afraid of the airbag. Just make sure to disconnect your battery and let the car sit for about 15 mins before you begin
Wow that was great and you do that mostly one handed, What's really neat having your child helping you out I remember when my kids were young as well, I noticed your tire pressure monitor light is on, I know it's annoying but the other day I had a flat tire and I didn't even notice because these cars are so low to the ground thanks to the tire pressure monitoring system I was able to check right away that it was completely flat to the rim, I spoke to a mechanic at Costco and they told me they could replace all 4 of the monitors and sync it to the car as well without having to buy tires all 4 tires all for $250 (recommended to do all 4 tire monitors) which I think is a pretty good price because the tire would have ripped to shreds if I had kept driving on it at today's prices at about $150 a tire, keeps you with some peace of mind, Thanks again I really enjoyed your video it was very instrumental to get me to repair my car
Thanks for the awesome comment Victor. I know what you mean about the tpms sensors ….. I’m too lazy and I check my car daily for low air pressure. So I’m not to worried about the sensors. I literally am obsessed at checking my car every morning before going for a drive.
If you don’t have VSC, you won’t have the steering wheel position sensor - is my understanding at this time at least, as I just used this tutorial to change my clockspring and didn’t have one (mine is a base model ‘07). Made things easier for sure. Great tutorial, this made things simple and quick for me! Thanks!
I’m sure it will. I got mine of eBay too. I would have got it on Amazon but I couldn’t find it until after the fact. But the eBay part has been working great 👍🏻
Thanks friend for the cool video as it will be helpful when I give my clock spring replacement a try. I would cut the background music though as it is hard to hear you at times and honestly a little annoying. I tried you Ebay and Amazon links and unfortunately they are no longer there. Nice instruction on the video though especially one-handed most of the way.
Just bought a new clockspring for my 08 prius, my info button and defog, and circulation buttons aren't working. I actually tried installing a after market stereo and it kept randomly muting itself, which I'm guessing has something to do with the steering wheel controls. I've also bought one of these cheap ones before for an 06 eclipse, and it worked great for the rest of it's life.
Good Video, but what tool is used to remove the two screws (That look like star shaped screws, I think?) holding the airbag in place? In your video, those are the two screws you don't actually show being removed or replaced after removing the plastic tabs behind the wheel.
Thanks but it didn’t work for mine… the red light disappeared and defroster works now (yeyy!) but the horn still not working. Any idea how to fix or what the problem could be? Thanks for the video anyways
Try to see if the fuse is blown for the horn. Sometimes it can blow out. Also check the connections to the horn it self . I’ve seen dumb rodents and squirels who chew the wires
Only mistake.... you need to MARK the spline of the steering shaft to the steering wheel before pulling the wheel. otherwise, you might assemble it 1-2 teeth off of alignment (crooked wheel)
It is very rare for it to explode without collision as it needs an electrical signal in order for it to operate so if you disconnect the battery and wait 20 minutes before you start working on the airbag you should be very safe
I Just replaced the clock spring for my 08 Pruis because some of the steering wheel buttons stopped working. The buttons worked properly but the airbag light came on after the replacement. Any advice? ( The clock spring was changed without disconnecting the battery)
You probably have a bad brake pedal switch, which is on top of your brake pedal. It’s a little green switch. If you are having a blinking cruise control light, that may be your problem.
@@EatingGoodWithRickandJerre Thanks, no cruise control light at all... :( I just did very quick test though, so maybe I'll have to be up to a higher speed. Keeping fingers crossed as I'm going on a trip tomorrow and would really like to have the cruise control.
@@richardwernst yes it can . I’m currently having that problem but I rarely use my cruise control so that’s y I haven’t made a video about it or fixed it. But my cruise control light blinks because of the bad brake switch. In your case you might have either a bad cruise control module or the button on the cruise control stick is broken. But the only way to properly find out is to diagnose it with tech stream to verify the button is being toggle on in the computer or if the cruise control module is even responsive.
