This person is horrible and I don't want to make any excuses, she should have done better. But on the subject of getting married and having a kid when you don't want to, a lot of people don't realize they don't want those things until after they already feel forced into it, I say that from experience. That doesn't excuse her behavior. She absolutely should have done better by her son and ex-husband. It's one thing to realize you don't want those things when it's too late, it's completely another to be a monster about it

But all hospitals deserve to be sued for not having a plentiful supply of donor blood

I do think this is why couples should under premarital counseling to try and address these issues before. Some churches the priest (or whatever title) can refuse to marry a couple if the premarital counseling shows they’re basically incompatible

I have been off and on dating because of school and work and just not finding the right person… anyways. I make it known pretty soon after meeting anyone I am not interested in more children and I will not be changing my mind about it. That’s one of the reasons his dad and I spilt. He wanted a huge family and I didn’t and we thought we could “get past it” but that’s a fundamental thing to people. That’s part of their personality and how they carry themselves. Neither of us were willing to change so it just didn’t work. Always always always be upfront about whether you truly want children or not.

Blood types are finicky because of antibodies and Rh factors. If the boy was O-, that would be the only blood type he could accept. If he was A-, he'd need either O- or A-. Neither of which are common! Most people have + blood. Not to mention, some hospitals are just low on blood donations. It expires fairly quickly, at most it can be stored for 6 weeks but by then it's mostly lost its capacity to hold O2. So no, not excusable but also not their fault.

@saccharineisnothoney In Germany we have the Red Cross where you can donate blood monthly. BUT they sell it to the hospitals for 250€ and you get something to eat, so I would go to a hospital where you can also donate blood and blood plasma and they give you 10 to 50€.

One In cases of emergency shit happens. Two hospitals run out of blood lots of people need blood and if you are unlucky multiple people in one day can obliterated a hospitals blood supply.

might have been the location ...if the hospital is lacking blood and too far out to the next blood bank they're gonna have problems ....also no donations = no blood

Also I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just take the blood from the mother and put it straight into the son without processing it in some way. I don't even know my blood type or that of my children so they would have to check online to find out if I was a match or not.

@catherinekilgour2563 They can check it at the hospital. Needs only a few minutes. You can donate blood at the hospital if your blood type fits whoever needs your blood even while they are in the ER.

Also, if he needed so much blood that he died from blood loss, they would not have been able to take all the blood he needed from the mother because then she would also die from blood loss.

No, it wouldn't be, as informed consent is required from any donor - but hospitals have plasma on hand, and don't do direct transfusions.

Sounds more like she just didn't want or care about him more than her being that scared. My brother passes out when he sees blood any at all and he would donate if a friend needed it let alone his kid. You look the other way. You get blindfolded, if you wanted to do it you would find a way. FRom the way the wife also blamed the husband it sounds like she just is awful and never wanted the kid and this was a convenient way out.
