This is a story of a little studio. They announced a little game, and the little studio was proud of it. Many people were excited about it. But when it released, the game wasn’t what it was said to be. It was empty, boring, repetitive. People thought they would abandon it, and move on. But the little studio was determined. They wouldn’t give up their little game. So they worked, and worked. All the while, people were thinking that the little studio was embarrassed. And then, they announced the NEXT update for the little game. Then, it turned into a big game. Sometimes, people like remember what the game was though of. Thank you to the little studio, Hello Games, for making such an amazing world to explore.
I mean, for the most part people found it empty boring and repetetive (in part because it was) but _mostly_ due to the fact the devs constantly lied about what was going to be in the game on Launch, to this day, even in this *video* theres things that are shown that aren't even close to in the game.
@@LeutenVT I think Hello Games have always intended for everything to be in the game that was in the trailer, even if it means it comes out at a later date. If anything they have made the list if features bigger than what it was on launch.
The No Man's Sky NEXT trailer seems almost to be recreating this one, in terms of the various shots it has. Same structure. Player begins underwater, then goes up and sees the world, then gets into a ship and blasts into space. The final shot of both trailers is also similar. Rather than blasting off into space along with a fleet of freighters, it shows two players aboard a frigate in a fleet of freighters. I feel like the NEXT trailer was made to show off the new features, while also sort of rebooting No Man's Sky by recreating this trailer.
Sweet merciful Christ. This game is literally the epitome of the greatest game that could ever possibly be conceived. I feel like i might cry. I can think of no other thing that is even close to being the fantasy game that i've always dreamed about.
Only 4 people working on this game and they didn't sell out on Kickstarter...one of them even sold his house to make Joe Danger...now THAT is a true indie developer.
My apologies for the years of negative comments. I started playing your game this years and I surprise too see how far it came. It brought me joy to see that you guys didn’t just abandon it, but instead turned it into something enjoyable and entertaining. Thanks Hello games. I was wrong and for that I am truly sorry.
VERY excited to get my hands on this game. Good on you guys at Hello Games. I 'd be more than happy to showcase more of this game when you guys get to that point in development where you feel comfortable showing more. Cheers ;)
I feel the same. I just got it dec 14th 2019, got 350 hours in. And yeah, its the best game ive ever played. Blows all the fallouts and skyrims right out of the water!!! I may never play another game again. 👊
This game I am so excited for. Who doesn't wanna spend hours exploring planets in my own little ship? I'm gonna find water planets, and sand planets, and dinosaur planets, and dark planets, and sciencey planets, and stormy planets, and scary planets, and happy planets, and my own planet, all in the comfort of the SS ChicksDigIt
Looks pretty sweet I have to say. Always a fan of space combat and it seems like you can move from planet to space seamlessly just like we wanted from Battlefront 3!
I just want to apologise to you for a moment. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't stop EA from being the ones to publish battlefront 3. I'm sorry for letting it become battlefield 3.7 (bf4 already took 3.5) I'm sorry that we will both have to experience it....
***** Battlefield is AWESOME - so Star Wars + Battlefield = almost certain win. Apart from the EA publishing it part. They'll probably release it too early and it'll take years to iron out the bugs.
Time to begin, Isn't it? I get a little bittt bigger but then, i'll admit... I'm just the same as I waaassss don't you understand I'm never changing who i am
I know right, look at Spore's universe, then look at the 1-man project Space Engine (a completely infinite entire universe with Crysis graphics). And now this game. It's astonishing how multi-MILLION dollar dev studios can't even come close to what a tiny indie dev team can do. It only shows that programming TALENT is what makes astonishing things happen, NOT money. Money has nothing what so ever to do with it, this is why the indie scene has become so huge. Because individual TALENT makes amazing games and tech, multi-million dollar studios with money pouring out of their ears just make garbage because they hire untalented lazy noobs (X Rebirth, Rome 2, Aliens Colonial Marines, anyone?) Talent > Money It's quite a happy discovery, really. It brings the art of games closer to that of movies, music and literature, which as we know also depend on individual talent rather than a big brand pouring money into talent-less scrubs. (Granted, the untalented money-supported singers, hollywood movies etc still make money, but we hardly count them as great works to be remembered through the ages. They are forgotten as quickly as they arrived.)
Baleur I think that's a bit misleading. A lot of these AAA titles that are selling poorly are a lot of the time, a result of poor management, too strict of deadlines and often a result of publisher's having their way with the game. There are a lot of talented devs who want to make amazing games but are frequently handicapped by these publisher demands. It's why we are seeing more and more developers leave big studios to form their own smaller indie studios and launching kickstarters for their games. The fact that indies can now self publish to steam, PS4 and I assume Xbone, assuming that they can gather the resources needed to make the game, they are leaving big publishers and AAA companies that would otherwise constrain their true potential.
Was not expecting this to end up on a console. Been watching development for a while and thought it was PC Only like Star Citizen. Excited for the devs and happy they will open this up to so many more players.
Cameron Purdie exactly though. They didn't say "PS4 Exclusive" and if you know anything about E3 they LOVE to throw that in your face every chance the get cause exclusives sell consoles. The fact that they didn't would lead me to believe it's most likely going to be multiplatform
I will be there on the first second of launch, travel to an undiscovered planet and call it Matheusland. (shut up, you all know you want a planet with your name)
It's a crying shame it took nearly 5 years to get a sandworm in the game, lol. either way, I've been part of the journey for 5 years. Looking forward to FRONTIERS. (Space Station ownership) maybe???
OriginalQuality Upset me? Did I seem upset? I was just commenting in case you didn't know what you were talking about at all. Why are people on RU-vid such cynical assholes? Pretense everywhere. (I'm sorry. I realize you probably don't know what that means) I'm also sorry I upset you, as well. It's very clear from your context that you are on a minor level of butthurt. Please proceed to get over it, you baby.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to play _No Man's Sky_.
man i remember how i was so enthusiastic about no man's sky trailers, i would jump off my seat when i know that there's a new trailer coming, back in 2014-2015-2016 were my happy years of gaming and pretty much everything, and being a space aficionado i was so tuned to play this game, and still to me one of the best games ever made, so thanks hellogames for being a part of my happy days!
This is easily my most anticipated game currently. I have no idea how the development is going currently, but I can't wait to hear more about it. This is everything I've ever wanted in a video game.
I had heard about the flood, but they never made it clear if all the work they had done on the game was destroyed by it. "The flood of water destroyed most everything in the office including computers, monitors, furniture, a door, a wall and even personal items like a console collection that included a NEO GEO pocket." The impression I got was that their equipment was destroyed. There's no mention of the game (still a big set back to have to replace all the computers you need to get work done though). I find it hard to believe that someone in the company didn't have back-ups at home in case something terrible were to happen (fires, break ins, so many things can go wrong, back ups away from the work area in protected areas would be common practice I would assume). Maybe they lost some of the progress they had on the game, but the the entire game gone and having to restart from square one, I feel that hasn't happened. I did a little research on the incident, and I know they've commented that the game wouldn't be delayed because of the flood though. Mind you things always change.
Well its good to hear it isn't as bad as I've heard, (thank goodness on the non-delay). I guess at this point I'm just itching to see some new footage or something. And not only that figure out what exactly this game is. Like it being a space sim is a given, but is it massively multiplayer? Singleplayer that can become server hosted multiplayer (a la minecraft or day z or terraria), Just plain singleplayer? or what?
***** those are the "most anticipated" games according to marketing jargon and common opinion. this is more a personal anticipation thing. While i dig what watchdogs is doing mechanically, and Destiny looks like borderlands but mmo style with the halo aesthetic, (which doesn't entice me since its consoles and said consoles have Subscription internet services). This is made by a team that you can count on your fingers, without the same kind of triple A budget as Destiny or Watchdogs (which between them have enough people on their dev teams to qualify as a small nation), which strikes me as a more impressive feat.
***** Well I know my comment was that this is one of my own most anticipated games. I don't particularly care much for Watch Dogs or Destiny. I know a lot of people are hyped for them, but they don't particularly excite me. They feel all too similar to things I've played before. The idea of exploring a never ending universe, trail blazing and discovering new worlds, building my own space ship to travel, and engaging in who knows what kind of adventures is far more tantalizing if they pull this off. I can see people settling on planets they discover, people warring over worlds they discover for resources. Watching as planets go from being resource rich to being barren wasteland. Epic space battles between player forces... or people living almost undetected in this virtual universe just doing their own thing. That's something I personally think is really exciting for a video game.
Can I go back to when this video was uploaded? TotalBiscuit didn't have cancer, Robin Williams was still making people laugh, Monty Oum was still being awesome... I don't care if I have to wait for this game again.
I post this 4 days before BEYOND comes out. Rewatching this made me remember I am still waiting for mega fauna and mega flora. Please, give me the giant desert snakes...🙏 THAT does not remove my RESPECT for your job. I have been on the game "since asap" and I enjoy it very much. Thanks for all the effort. I hope it pays. You deserve it.
btw there is a mod for mega flora and fauna XD. I think it's called the Ray's mod or something. Would be dope to have giant trees and animals in the game though. a nightmare for vr people though haha.
@@sergicrisan5564 Haha no worries. Beyond is like a new foundation update and foundation for more radical things! The first one being the Nexus which is in Beyond XD. Anyway hope you enjoy the update if you have the game, it releases in the next few hours.
@@sergicrisan5564 Beyond is like another foundation update as they have some radical ideas for the future updates after what we're getting today :). The Nexus. Don't worry, I think we have much more coming after Beyond :D.
HO2 isn't "hydrogen dioxide". It is "hydroperoxyl". www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hydroperoxyl There is nothing like "hydrogen dioxide", though HO2 actually exists.
I remember when I first played Halo, what drew me in was a sense of curiosity, a desire to explore Installation 04. And now someone's taken that whole idea of exploring a unique, sci-fi world, and put it into game form.
No way. The devs are already talking about being afraid of not meeting the deadline, and the deadline was "2015". I'd rather wait till 2017 to see this game perfectly released as a 9/10 awesome game than a 4/10 half-baked game with load times of Sonic 06 on a old PC with AOL, and glitches in where the planets barely look visible due to slow generating and I fly into the core of the planet and die because everything loaded around me and crushed me to oblivion. Pleeeaasseee don't rush this, and Sony, you keep your GD mouth shut and wait for this cake to be properly baked. >:(
Kurogaea Monari I honestly think that it will perfect, both critically and commercially. You can tell they are putting everything into the game due to the long periods without news and the team being so honest. They don't want a Destiny repeat. It's their dream to make this and I wouldn't think they would throw it all away.
Kurogaea Monari There is no generating. There are no load times. Procedural generation doesn't rely on data stored, it creates its own instantly using an algorithm.
Kurogaea Monari They aren't really rushing it with a 2015 release date. Once the engine for a procedurally generated game is complete, the game is practically done. They've shown off the engine, and they've already showed that the game is finished. Now, if the game WASN'T procedurally generated then a release date anywhere near 2017 would be rushing it.
Anyone heard about the death threats because the game was delayed? Honestly, some of us gamers really need to grow up. Delays only means they want to perfect the game they made for us so we can get the full experience. They could've just gave it to us in shitty condition and still make money off of it, but they didn't. Ugh...
If this game ends up the way this trailer makes it seem, this may legit be the most beautiful piece of art any human has ever create. These guys are going to literally create an entire living, and breathing universe. I'm going to follow this game's progress like 14 year old girls follow Justin Bieber!
Hate to burst your bubble but although it looks completely awesome, I woulnd't go so far as to say that it is 'literally an entire living, and breathing universe'. The elements of the game are generated procedurally based on artificial attributes. oxygen is not oxygen - it's a set of parameters.
This game is flat now. Foundation update was a peak. Best graphics, best gameplay, best planet generation, and now... it feels like Unreal Engine 4 shitty base building game.
I hope the developers fully recover from the flooding that destroyed their studio & work. It crushes my soul to think that this could be all that we ever see, of what would have surely been a truly magical creation. If it had delivered on its promises, it would have been like the birthing of a new universe in game terms.
Luckily, a game like this will HAVE to exist someday, and even if it isn't that developer, someone else will go this far and it will be spectacular. It's just one of those ideas that is natural to the reality we've created in gaming. It WILL happen no matter what.
If I could, I'd pay more than 100k for their recovery.. This game has me too fucking hyped for it to be dropped. And their is a rumor that someone from Microsoft might lend a helping hand in financial issues, need I say where this might go? It better not fucking be turned into a Xbox exclusive, that'll just make me hate Microsoft more than I already do.
Oh man I hope you do, this game looked awesome. A game where you can just chill and explore or cruise into space and fight battles with a starship is a welcome change to all the fast-paced action oriented games that have recently been released/are going to be released.
***** this game feels a little too indie to NOT hit PC though. Certainly if they're tossing out DayZ, Spore and minecraft references, they want to build that big online community. PC has the largest install base by an order of magnitude over the new consoles (and will continue to be so by the time this game is finished) they'd have to get money hatted by sony or microsoft to NOT hit PC. That's just my educated guess however...
***** unless a console makes a deal for exclusivity, an indie dev is likely to release first onto whatever platform has the biggest market and lowest cost to develop for and then to release to other platforms afterwards. PC is a bigger market, easier and cheaper to develop for. i'd imagine this would hit PC before it hit consoles if there isn't a simultaneous release
***** -_- do you think consoles could render and endless world, No. By next gen they mean the next generation of gaming not consoles. Im expecting this to be PC exclusive.
This was said in RPS preview: "Murray didn't want to give too much away but was clearly very excited to finally announce No Man's Sky and talk about it. "The game, right now, runs on off-the-shelf high-end PC and it runs on a next-gen console." Murray wouldn't disclose anything else about platforms but did say development of No Man's Sky is "further along than what the trailer would lead you to believe." So probably PC and next gen consoles. This game is nothing like Star Citizen, very different philosophies. SC is much more narrative and immersion driven. NMS is a pure exploration game.
I've expressed my excitement about this game to my friends, but they don't seem to realize how amazing it has the potential to be. I am so excited, and if they pull this off right, it'll be one hell-of-a game.
I Hope everyone realises that unfortunately we might not get this game any time soon, or maybe even never. Their office in Guilford was flooded and the computers destroyed…..
The marine/oceanic artwork needs a serious overhaul. I've seen more aesthetically pleasing underwater visuals from Nintendo 64 games. Besides that minor gripe, this is pretty much one of the only games Im genuinely excited for. Can't wait to get my hands on it :)
There is no official release date, and there probably won't be one for quite a while considering we aren't even sure if they've resumed development since all their equipment was lost in a recent flooding of their offices. Also you have to consider it's just 4 guys working on this, not some 300 million dollar team of 80+ programers like most triple A studios. So it's going to be a while. If I had to guess, I would say late 2015 - early 2016.
They werent proceduraly created however. Things created this way may look worse than static and baked game elements. It's harder on the calculation so you have to cut on quality to get performance. But the difference is that you can interact with these things more easily.
It's almost as if a month before release every copy of the game was erased and they had like 4 weeks to redo it all, and what we got was that empty piece of boredom we have now.
+Tremor244 that has actually happened before, when sims 2 was made the hard drives caught on fire, and they had to redo the game from scratch. Because of this, many of the features in the game had to become dlc, so that they could release the game on time. This is probably why dlc has become such a big thing in AAA games
I think they thought they had enough time to complete every feature, but because they had to port the game for both pc and ps4 (which they didn't think they would have to do from the beginning), it took up too much time do they had to scrap a whole bunch of things.
***** PC is fine. But Xbox? God help us all. I bet on the xbox people will have to do kinect motions just to climb into the fucking ship. Just release it for PC so it can be a complicated planet exploration game.
What is wrong with Microsoft helping out? Literally nothing. Microsoft Studios throw out good shit all the time. Also, don't see how it being on Xbox would make it a different game than it already is.
its crazy how expectation and delivery has risen so much since this trailer, at the moment of this trailer, everyone's like "this seems to good to be true you can fly into space from the planet seamless, then to a star, there's just no way this can be real (im included in this)". now its like "its not got every mechanic ever designed in a game ever "or the graphix aren't good enough or complaints about just a complete misinterpretation of the game, such as all you can do is find materials or all you can do is fly and walk around when people say all you can do is explore that's what they mean, they don't rely understand what explore means and seem to completely miss the fact that you can do space battles or spelunking or interact with intelligent races or upgrade your equipment so on. the final complaint which has just stemmed from past games being disappointing is, "there wont be enough variety in creatures and planets and such" and i can't be bothered to fully explain how wrong that is, but go to any trailer of the game look at two trees and see if those two trees even within the same species have the same number of branches or bend in a certain way, then apply that to every tiny feature within countless species and landscape's and then you will understand why there will always be more variety than you can manage in all your hours of playing even the sounds and voices of the animal are randomly generated probably keeping single species reasonably similar even the animations are generated differently depending on the weight and shape of the animal, which can be different between two animals within the same spices, a basic example is take two goats one could have horn's the other could have different shaped horns or larger horns, one could have longer legs or more muscular legs or a heavier head or the patern on its body could be slightly different ie larger spots . then again just aply that to everything in the game = huge variety.
Well EVERYTHING is "random". Which means it's procedurally generated. I've typed so much on how these types of games work so I'm not gonna explain but just know it will be EXTREMELY rare to find a copy of an animal on a different planet. Hello Games even said there's a low chance life will even exist on 3/4 of the planets. So new creatures+ low life possibilities= a game to remember. (I didn't even see the Tremor like worm in anything I've watched so that makes me excited)
NONOVA 24 yea that's what I'm saying preople just find things to complain about, despite how incredible just on an achievement level this game is, plus the game seems like it will be one of the best ever
This is a indie game priced at the same price as GTA V... Minecraft was $10 and had ALOT more gameplay (maybe not a quatrillion planets - but at least handmade variety) - and I could play it with friends and mods. :'(
That's just a portion of my reason. Listen I buy games all the time; some of them I like and some of them I don't; it's always individual with games - however many of the games I don't prefer, still have a $60 value in the gameplay itself. NMS is gameplay is bland, boring and the performance is weak. You might love the game - and be happy paying $60 for it, which is fair and which I respect, but looking at the metacritic score - i'm certainly not the only one feeling disappointed. You're right in the sense that it was stupid of me to buy the game :)
umm no, don't give us that shill excuse. This game was marketed with features not in it. That is deception, and misrepresentation, which is illegal in many countries. Also, people did NOT know that these features were missing from the game prior to release. Are you insane? Or just an apologist for shady business ethics? False advertising is false advertising, however you try to dress it up as something else, or try to blame the consumer for not researching the product. The responsibility should be on the business to market their products accurately and without deception. You cannot blame the consumer for not knowing what was missing from their game. That is just insane. "... you knew all of those factors before the game came out". We knew that the game was misleading consumers with promised features missing? tldr; You are insane if you believe what you are saying, or just trying to defend shady business tactics.
Im just passing through the comments to see the timeline of how people acted about the release. It's crazy to see how people changed so drastically from loving the game to hating it to loving it even more in the course of three years.
