MicDubTV they were probably scared another delay will cause a reaction even bigger then the last one (honestly i cant blame them, if I was in their place i would be scared shitless)
the guy had to deal with death threats and studio floods before the game was ever released, not to mention the backlash after release. I'll give the guy this he's persistent, more than a lot of triple A companies out there.
I_Am_SamIII never said it would be at launch, Sean clearly said this is a game They will be working on for a long time, and not everything will be in at launch. Look it up.
As I’ve seen a bit more of Sean Murray I feel like I don’t blame him as much for “over hyping” the game. I mean he definitely should’ve held back but he clearly is just someone who’s super passionate about his game and truly seems to think like a fan, wanting the game to be everything it could possibly be. I’m glad he’s still keeping the dream alive
I'm so glad HG never gave up. I always liked NMS, the updates made it awesome, and now it's just turning into one of my favourite games ever. Congrats Hello Games
I'm rooting for you Shawn! So happy to see you back in the public light. It might be scary entering back, but there are many of us who appreciate you very much!
Glad to see that they're still working on it, but is multiplayer the only thing that's in this update? MP is pretty much the last thing I care about having in NMS, there's so much more that I feel needs to be improved before I can really get into it again.
Multiplayer just seems to be the most marketable feature of it. However as the biggest update to the game yet, they're surely going to be revisiting other features of the game, including those introduced with updates after launch (e.g. basebuilding, exocraft, missions, etc.).
All I really care about is better planet generation with a much wider variety in terrain, flora, and fauna, as well as completely overhauled fauna AI and behaviours. If any of that gets to the point that they originally showed, I'll be happy with the game.
I agree with your take regarding planet generation, I would add a real day / night physical stuff and not this cheap fake whatever we have, which just breaks my immersion completely, better water shaders, and so on and so on and so on. However, I understand why they are pushing multiplayer, and how hard it must be code-wise. I wouldn't be surprised that this is all they have worked at for the past year and more, given the technological problems that mp entail. I guess I'll have to wait a few more years until this game becomes something I will find interesting again.
" Yeah its interesting............ We've been working on this for 2 years in a way........a year on NEXT.......and then a year updates previously that this all builds on top of, Right. ........ And we're lucky, that we have a community that cares.... Really Deeply about the game, you know. So i get a real kick out of working on updates and kind of feeding them, doing things i know they'll enjoy. " Awe shucks man, how can you hate this guy? And every update has been free. I commend HelloGames for the continued support of a game that their so obviously passionate about. And hey, the 1st launch didn't go exactly as planned, so here's to an awesome launch and beyond for the Xbox and WEGame Communities! Welcome Fellow Interlopers! Grah!
It was great to see Sean talking about this game again. Nearly two years since launch and this game continues to excite me. I can't wait to see what's NEXT! :D
No Man's Sky launches rough and gets tons up updates making the game better. Internet: "They failed ! I'm never giving it another look!!1" Destiny 2 launches rough and has steadily declined since then. Internet: "Man, really excited to see what new roadblocks Bungie has added to my experience!!1" Me: 🤦♂️
I'm with you since first version of NMS, I love the game from beggining and I always knew, you will add more stuff there, I'm so happy that is come true...again:) Wish you best.
I can tell he is really passionate about this game. I wanted it from the first day I saw it on e3. Been playing for 2 years now and I've been with you every step of the way
Sean basically admitted it was a mistake to talk in general terms about features present in early builds that may or may not make it into the initial release or indeed any subsequent update due to projects being subject to change for aesthetic, technical, or business reasons. It is right there at the end of the interview, and confirms what I always assumed about how him discussing his work in progress for several years of interviews, in a way which was atypical because most developers tend to remain tight lipped to avoid the customer jumping to the unfounded conclusion that everything ever mentioned in an interview was a cast iron promise customers could sue them over if undelivered. That notion has always been bunk. Every feature that was in the Steam product description was in the initial release at launch. Large scale space battles were in the game but the reason so many complained that they weren't was because they were rare. Xenodinosaurs were also present and were even more rare. All this was intended to give the exploration longevity. Now people are complaining to him on twitter saying that he lied because he has now added multiplayer, despite it clearly stating it was single-player about an inch to the right of their *Add to Cart* button. I give up, your collective stupidity can't be reasoned with. You just want to be negative.
This. Not to mention the said, all through out development, not every feature would be possible at launch. Why people ignored this ill never know. Why people thought a 4-13 man team could deliver more in less time than any other studio ever has ill never know.
As a day one supporter of this game (I didn't overhype myself and I knew what to expect because I actually did my research), I'm both happy to see No Man's Sky get this far, but I'm also saddened because you can really tell how badly the internet has affected Sean Murray. He definitely was nervous during this interview and I can't really blame him. But we're rooting for him to do well!
This is the game I've told people it would become eventually, even though everyone was always screaming at me and saying "it's all lies". Faith saw me through, so there you go!
Welcome back Sean. Glad to see you back. What no mans sky needs is variations in planets. After visiting just 20 planets i feel like that was it. The rest is just similar. Rocks arecthe same animals are the same, fish. Terrains. We need a polished game with great amount of varriation. Belive me it is not enough
I have to say, after the initial release I fully expected Sean and Hello Games to do a Dean Hall and just take the money and run. But here they are, still building on it and trying to make it right. Guess there is some passion in this team after all.
I'm going to preorder 20 copies for all my friends and family. Because this game is going to be awesome. Sean Murray is a nice honest guy that I trust with my life.
If I had friends multiplayer would be a welcome addition. I’m excited to see what other new features will be included. This game keeps getting better and better with each free update. My short wish list would be external views of space ships, exocrafts that can be driven out of space ships when you land, having multiple multi tools, and finally an option for beards on our space dude. Summer can’t come fast enough. Multiplayer will be awesome if there are multi crew ships, I’ll just have to play with randoms.
What about if I don't want play in multiplayer. I remember that you once praised that I can explore alone and not be afraid that some band of trolls that hunts only other players will ruin my fun?
There will be an option for single player, an option you won’t even need as the universe is so big that it is very very very rare to bump into someone unless you are actively looking for them. Do not worry, I’ve never met a single player on my travels, not even a base. I’ve been playing this game since launch too
oh please yes the universe ingame is huge but i remember on the day of release 2 players already "met" each other. Well they were in the same spot at least, not able to see each other.
Stona Raptor That’s because they actively looked for one another they didn’t bump into each other by chance. The universe is bigger than we can actually comprehend, the chances of bumping into someone randomly who is going to just shoot and kill you is literally so rare it’s not worth worrying about
What I want to know is if the multi-player will be cross-platform. (For those that don't know, cross-platform basically means that if your friend plays NMS on xbox1, and you play NMS on PC, you will still be able to play together on the two different consoles.)
D3adlyTrip that's a shame because my friend has a toaster for a PC, but he has an xbox1 and I was hoping that we could explore together... Oh well... Maybe one day.
It took it's time but i guess this is it! I have been playing a bit for the last few days, but still haven't done much. Now, i know it must be hard to work on a huge game like this and that may cost lots of money to make, but add some cosmetics of some sort so you can keep funding and evolving the game. But i do love that ideia of something bigger along with multiplayer! Hope we can trade goods as well and get rich, love that sort of things in these games, it's what really get's me addicted. And so in the words of Ru Paul, "good luck and don't fuck it up!!"
Awesome, so glad to perhaps be getting back in this game! Maybe tho for suggestions, add some more variety to the planets and creatures, and colonies, which u hinted towards all those so if u do that would make the game truly amazing!
I'm looking forward to this. I honestly returned the game after a few days of playing it on release, but after seeing all they've done and what is to come with multiplayer, I might just have to pick it up again and try it out. I like the base building, I like the farming, I like the freighter ideas and I really look forward to multiplayer.
I have a lot of respect for Sean Murry, after all the backlash they received at the very start of release, they kept moving forward and slowly earned their respect instead of talking about the game, and he said he would rather make content than talk about whats coming, I really like that xD, its cool how down to earth he is and how exited he gets about their game, much respect man. I love No Man's Sky btw!!
Oobe Nah it's not going to be just multiplayer. Also with the past updates yeah planet generation improved. Ofcourse you're bound to come across some ugly ones, but the point of the game isn't just to be in cheery funville all day.
i think he is referring to the lack of biome variation and the fact that every planet only had a single damn biome. Which makes it extremely dull after a few planets.
Most likely. I can’t imagine it just being multiplayer and then nothing else. Probably deeper oceans, larger creatures, and maybe..space whales! You never know.
There was a lot of negative press when NMS was released - some of it fair and some not so. But you have to hand it to NMS team Hello Games, they have now come through a difficult period and I can see them reaping the benefits of there hard labour. It certainly feels like it's coming together and NEXT does seem like a geniunely exciting update with and more importantly the promise of continuing development in the future. Hats off to Hello Games!
@Striker KZ Which is absurd in itself considering they're releasing this game on a new platform and should be trying to entice potential new players to buy their game. What might have been okay with the previous three updates doens't apply here because of the change of conditions. Sadly Hello Games aren't perceptive on issues like these because they don't have a marketing department and are excessively reclusive in their endeavours.
Hovis Steve exactly this is no longer just an update it's a new release on a whole new console. They really should be promoting it to show Xbox owners that it new and not the game it was a year ago. This would also be nice for us to see what is new.
Multiplayer is technically already in, just in the form of a glowing orb. No character model, but you can explore with your friends. Update NEXT will have models from what I've understood.
1.3 had the multiplayer he described. And something working in a development build is 100s of man hours away from polished enough for release. Do you not remember the game at launch? Would you really rather they spent 100 less hours on what was there just to add multiplayer in a game that doesn't even complement it well?
Happy to play Next on my PS4 slim today. ButI just have a little worry about it so far. Usually when I'm entering a planets atmosphere (after the Next update), the sound becomes buzz, and the picture is updating very slow and lags -almost as if it is about to crash. Have never experienced this before the update, and more players have encountered the same issue. Is this just temporary? Would be happy for answers. Thank you for constantly improving the game.

They are a team of only 18 people, so its kind of hard to integrate something so big along with other updates. As opposed to EA which has hundreds of people working on it and they are able to spit out games like its nothing
+David Flynn just watch the interviews with Sean prior to release and whenever someone asks "will *insert feature* be in the game?" Sean replies with "yes" he is a con-artist plain and simple
For those of you commenting on how bad the game is you probably haven't played it since release. When this game came out it was a pile of garbage, but since then they have rolled out multiple free updates that have added a lot and made the game actually fun and engaging even as a single player experience. And if they can finally pull off a real multiplayer experience with this NEXT update that's not just floating orbs then the game will be very close to what was originally promised all those years ago...
This is a prime example of when a big company, forces a little company to release a game too quickly and throws em under the bus. Game wasn't even half done yet, I've watched all his interviews leading up to the release. He's a gamer, making games for gamers. He didn't portray a hint of dishonesty until leading up to it's release he kinda changed his approach and looked real stressed out for some reason. We've found out why. Sony pushed these little guys to release a game half arsed for cash grabs and threw the blame on Hello Games, while laughing, taking the cash. Once the first update came up, I was shocked! I knew then that this guy is legit, and they're going to make the game they've always dreamed of making.
It's one of my "guilty pleasures" It was disappointing at first but with those updates they made, it's slowly becoming the game that it was promised. Here's hoping we can just fuck around with our friends and maybe more community events like let's say, Terraform a Whole Planet with hundreds of players real time, make a military base and have an interplanetary/intergalactic war with thousands of players, just imagine lol Hate me all you want but this game is one of the best game I've played , I've been a gamer ever since I was 6 or 7, and the first space exploration game I played was ELITE 1984, I love this game and more free updates and free content additions are more than welcome
ive been on xbox never played it on ps4 but when it came to xbox in the years since the beginning of xbox i can hounstly say dont knock it untell you try it its amazeing and runs amazeing on a XBOX 1 X ONE OF THE BEST GAMES IVE EVER PLAYED MY GAMERSCORE SPEAKS FOR ITS SELF I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY THIS IS AN AMAZEING GAME I SPEND THOUSANDS OF HOURS PLAYING GAMES AND MY GAMER SCORE GIVES ME THE CREDIBILITY TO SAY ITS GOOD DUE TO HOW MENY GAMES I PLAY AND STREAM ROLEING GAMER SCORE GREAT JOB SEAN KEEP UP THE AMAZEING WORK
I recommend hiring a spokes person for the team if Sean feels uncomfortable talking to the media. The whole thing must have been hard to process for one guy getting all the backlash. I was pretty pissed too to be honest and i also told my friends about it, but nonetheless i also can't imagine HelloGames wants to make a bad name for themselves by releasing shitty games. It was probably bad PR combined with third party pressure and a few bad choices (not releasing in early access due to the bad publicity it makes for new & ambitious titles). I really wanted a game like no man's sky at the time, and now it just falls a little flat and it will be very hard to get friends into playing this when Next releases. Most people i know who own the game are over it and probably wont to come back to it neither. I still really like that they try to make the game work as intended (or how it was formerly marketed towards us) and i think it was wise of Sean not to give any future insights to make people dream of things before it's actually done. I can totally imagine how it is if someone has its big ambitious game and has all the ideas that he/them would love to have in the game. I wish them good luck and hope this gets where it wants to be. Also its a good job of them not to just give up on the title entirely and keep updating it.
Super excited for multiplayer, but I really hope this update has some optimization. This game runs great on my ps4, but doesn’t run so well on my more powerful pc.
Hey guys at hello can u add a faction sytem like u said before so u can ally a race and add players on ur way to make ur mark in the universe and a discovery catalog so we can like other people findings and sort it by most liked and be like thats cool the planet sounds cool i wanna visit then download the cords to the portal
He has returned! The Demon lord tier God King has come for his cleansing, give your self unto Lord Murray's power! In his worship he will spare you, in time you will know his Truth. Come an seek your salvation to the whims of Lord Murray. This is his universe now!
Bitch please Bungie works on a game and released half of it one year 59.99 and releases the 2nd half the next year for 59.99. just one upping your EA price. Not toxic I love this game
ReadyPlayer2 Well yeah they better release it for free when they scammed 80% consumers And dont get me started how they didn't and how steam didn't say it had multiplayer or shit like that. Sean said multiple times things on interview and trailers things that would be in the game, that in the end weren't, without anymore info about them being cut from the game
You need to understand, EA has 100s of employees working on their games and DLCs, Hello Games only has 13 people, which is very understandable why it takes so long for them to make anything big for an ambitious game.
Hello Games is to be commended on their sheer determination to put their game right. I feel bad for Shaun, he got way to much hate and you can clearly see how careful he is being in this video.
+OHCAM5 you can see that wasn't him though. he was signed to big publisher and after that he was screwed. he had to sell the game since he was under contract. sony washed their hands and threw him under the bus. he could have taken today money and retired but he's making the game he originally wanted to make but couldn't. that is commendable in this industry
@@OHCAM5 death threats is normal to you it seems ? You must have no heart to say it's "just enough" for a product being different than what you wanted ( no I'm not saying the game was good, it was hot garbage ) I don't think it was "just enough hate" AT ALL, it was WAY TOO MUCH ( even more knowing that he took everything for himself protecting his team )
I mean the last three updates greatly improved the game and made it closer to the game it should've been and the game is pretty amazing right now I feel they are pulling a Minecraft with this game where they continuously update it for a long time.
CaptainE2000 what lesson ? He never said NMS will be a multiplayer game at Launch. All the backlash was anything but his fault.... He communicated clearly that NMS wont launch as a Multiplayer game.
the idea of no mans sky started in 2012, after 6 years they are still working harder than they ever have within those years. They truly want to create the game that people only have dreams about and I'm glad to see that they're still highly ambitious. Can't wait for the NEXT update. (no pun intended)
I only buy from Steam. The price has remained consistently high and is still $60 normally. The features STILL don't mesh with the original claims prior to release.
Troy Warren steam has had some pretty big sales, there might actually be one right now, dont take my word for it tho. Mind giving me a list of some features you say aren't in the game? Again, you'd really be surprised by how much has been added since launch.
