There are two different ceremonies that a young Diné would go through. There is one for the boys and one for the girls.
While many have asked about the ceremony for the girls… there isn’t a lot of information out there. This information is passed down from grandmother to mother to daughter. Men are not involved in this ceremony, save one part.
That is when the Medicine Man does his part and that is it.
When people think of our Diné and the Matriarchal society that we are… they often misunderstand. It is not how most of the world thinks about it.
Enjoy the video.

Thank you for explaining about the coming of age. I wish someone had taken my coming of age worth teaching me how to be a woman who follows the ways of wisdom. People are too often fed, and clothed, entertained, and left to stumble forward in ignorance. Many are not even cared for that much. Your ways are so beautiful!

The Sacred is overlooked to our collective detriment. What do we make sacred in our lives? Worth pondering. Many dabble in spirituality, meditation, psychic skills, but without sacred intention, we are vulnerable to parasitic attack and the distorted thinking that ensues. Thank you, Wally, for explaining these things for us to sit with.❤

Our Seneca Iroquois is a matriarchal society, as well. We have our elders that come together to make decisions, because both sexes are important to the family/tribe/nation. Women own the longhouses (real estate) and make most of the decisions (final), but all viewpoints are important and respected, and would never consider one sex being greater than another. We all have important roles to fulfill.

@@StrategyCats No. Matriarchal. Matrilineal is ancestry only through the female line, only. Before you try to correct someone, at least have the gumption to understand what you're talking about, first. I've been taking time to step back and watch videos from old to new here. It's a strange phenomena to be reminded of stories I've heard before in my youth, barely recollecting but a skeleton of stories not as a childhood I wanted to forget, but a childhood I wanted to remember. There is no greater feeling than to first be empty, then made whole again. Thank you.

I’m a very proud supporter, and I’m so anxious to see all the traditional teaching preserved before they are lost. However, listening to Wally’s words makes me realize that they should not share them all because it would diminish their sacred nature. Some words need to be heard by the young ONLY when they are ready and are listening with ears open and mouth shut. As for the girls. Doesn’t it seem so obvious that this country really needs to have its young women straighten up and find their center again? There is nothing more important to the human race than our mothers. When mothers stray from their path, so too does society.

@@zen-sufiWell I can tell you have never looked at any of those statistics, especially concerning children. Women are 40× more likely to kidnap children and also "unalive" more children than men and that's not including the 70+ million abortions since the late 60's. Also all the moms putting their kids on all kind of drugs at a early age, physiologically and physically handicapping them through their formative years and for some it's permanent. Now they're pushing their own ideology on their little ones, even going as far as sterilizing their children before their even 16yr. All for some virtue signaling points. That's just to name a few, but I understand that all these facts would get in your way of your blind hatred of man......there's a name for that it's called misangny.

The traditional Chickasaw and Choctaw measure heritage through the matrilineal line. So if, for example, a European person, or, a non-tribal person defined by the U.S. as "Mulatto" or "Negro" has descendants by a tribal person with a blood quantum, their descendants would have been considered culturally full blood. The "Negro" and "Mulatto" and "White" men, were fathers of Native children. Social equality doesn't always mean everyone has the same role. There was a different role for tribal members with a blood quantum than for other people of color and Europeans who were married to them. Likewise, equality between male and female doesn't always mean the same roles. The ceremonies, knowledge, etc. are different for male and female roles. And I appreciate you so much for bringing that to everyone's attention.

This man impresses me more and more each time he speaks. Then again... I guess I am not as much impressed by him as I am appreciative - and perhaps biasly so - for the information that God has put on his heart to share. It is always very positive in nature and context and I find a certain 'oneness' with him and am proud to call him my friend. I say there is a 'bias' knly because I always seem to agree with the perspective of his people, their ways, and as such I feel to somehow be - even if only in spirit - a part of his 'clan'. I think I understand more about myself and why a native american here that is local to me once compared me to 'Lake'. May God bless this man with a very very long life as his teachings are important.

We have so much to learn in western culture about spiritual teachings. Divorce for instance is much simpler and respectful than family court is today. And these coming of age ceremonies should be a part of our teachings to young people and their absence is why we see so much disrespect and rebellion toward our elders.

i was taught that during the Kinaaldá (the female puberty), everybody who taught & who were important to the girl, were invited to attend specific parts of the ceremony. however, it was very rare for men to mould & participate fully in a Kinaaldá. the people who were invited gave their blessings to the girl as she progressed in the ceremony. that is why elders say you are not supposed to do bad things & naughty things during a Kinaaldá, because that is what you will be giving to a female for her puberty ceremony. there were times when some families had no females or matriarch to mould & bless a female for her Kinaaldá, so they did what they had to do to survive. our zází (ancestors) survived for a reason, & we should never forget that.

There is a lot of deferment to the uncle or grandfather in the raising of the children that is not well understood outside of the Navajo's. The best description of the owning of the children by the mother would be matrilineal and not matriartical. The uncles and chays on the motherside of the family still have a lot of say regarding to the family. Matrilineal gives a lot of voice to women in Navajo Society. Decision in war and peace were still made by head men as in the Navajo council or Naachʼid when the question of war came that Narabona lead. Peace after the long walk was given to Barboncito who spoke for the people with General Sherman that led to the Navajo being allowed to return home. Naachʼid would be an interesting area of discussion.

The mother fights off physical offenses of any kind but their inner world, their mental essence that cannot be held, touched, seen is protected too. Amazing, simply amazing. That recognition of that dimension as separate from the outer observed phenomena is wonderful. Understanding where one views their self from in reality is such a glorious state. It's invisible to so many taking the form of ideology in service to whatever comes into ones experience being directed towards said ideology. We seem to mis identify with the current perceived mood or conglomeration of thoughts and ideas. It's all mental abstraction and the actual realization of the present moment and ones own presence there aside from the current thoughts, mood, emotions or whatever leads to profound changes in ones life immediately by some measure. It's like ping pong. A predicament indeed. This miss perception has led to atrocities of which is beyond this moments consideration but leaves one subject to manipulation under the banner of something outside themselves. This is a tragedy. I would seek to amend that by having people turn onward, the realest spot known. Go deeper. Meditate. Please forgive me, I digress. You're awareness of these realities is heartwarming. Thank you for opening up to us in this way. Your virtue is supreme it appears. One never knows the heart of another. It's malevolent when deception is in one's heart. Heresy is a road to a dark mind. Let that outer world take a back seat to the inner world that is no less than you and me, you can't hold it you can't touch it and you can't see it.
