I don't like this "all in" approach, especially with vocals where you're better off going into wave itself and fix just what you want to fix so you don't lose that X factor, "magic" that you created using automation on vocals and you destroy 90% of the vibe and character fixing only 10% of the material that makes problems; but this plugin is really something else. I still would use "surgical approach" on most material, but if you have to work fast and vocal is not the main element in the mix this is more than great. You have enough options to do it right. Great video again. 👍
Different, this is a go to for single tracks, also a LOT lighter on the CPU, Weiss is standard for Mastering for me but it adds quite some latency and I mix analog and it adds up if I use Weiss on multiple tracks. Also this is so quick
Hi David, I know you're a big fan of the Weiss De-ess and if you had to pick only one, would you choose Weiss De-ess or Smart De-ess? I've been testing Weiss for a few days and it also does a great job of smoothing and de-harshing amp sims. I'm going to test Smart De-ess as well (hopefully it will also work on guitars) but just wanted to get your thoughts on these two. Thanks!
I understand green and teal/aquamarine are their brand colors, but they couldn't find less dissimilar colors for distinct frequencies highlights. Seriously.
How does this compare in use to Rx and Melodyne? I tend to use both as part of my workflow for vocals, though sometimes Rx is too clumsy and melodyne by itself is not enough for de-essing. Could this replace them as tools for this kind of vocal cleanup?
Can't wait to try it out. I wonder if 1) this can get it all cleaned up up front so I don't end up doing end of chain automation to soften some remaining pockets of harshness, which is admittedly a clumsy but often necessary (for my skill level, anyway) way to try to smooth everything out, post compression, etc., and 2) if Softube will be willing to refund what i paid for Weiss de-esser 😄@@mixbustv
Sounds pretty damn great! The Weiss de-esser is awesome too… I have to say, the Massey de-esser magically takes away sibilance without artifacts or fiddling. Still have never heard it get beaten all these years later.
I have the Sonible AI noise gate. The most incredible results with one fatal issue. It's NOT capable of tracking in REAL time with some noted latency. I question if this De Esser is capable of NO latency and delivering the results accordingly in REAL time. If not to me it's of NO use. I need to be able to record a vocal in REAL time without the annoying latency
I'm a bit confused as to why you'd need any plugin to "track in real time' since you cannot "track" with plugins, by nature, they are digital, so they come after the AD so there's absolutely no difference between "tracking" with them and putting it after the fact. But regardless, you can't have the cake and eat it too. The reason why they're so good is because they read the material ahead of time so it's impossible not to have latency
Bought this instantly when I got the e-mail. Didn't even bother listen to it because I know what they're about, and it is customizable as well. Am absolutely not disappointed!
Impressive. A serious contender, at least for dialogue mixes where I keep each character on their own track. I'll have to check if this works on generic dialogue without having to reanalyze, because I'm not sure that can be automated, so one analysis may have to do. Very impressive. Could well take the place of Pro-DS as a pre-comp deesser on my tracks.
"game changer" probably gets over used, but THIS !!!. I've got probably 5 different "highly recommended" de-essers, and I still have to do automation to get de-essing and plosives right. This thing may do away with the need for automation?. It would be a HUGE time saver 🙏👏👏👏.........can't wait to try it out !
Great Demo! Its really an amazing tool and the purchase was a no brainer for me. The dectection of the esses is really perfect. However, on every Vocal i tried it didnt really work on the plosives or didnt find any (although there were enough). Does this Plugin need a specific Input level or was that just a coincidence?
This plugin needs a timeline where you can change the level and algorithms per ess or plosive... AI is good but not me good, still have to do do esses by hand with this plugin
So weird I was just wishing for a plug-in like this. Doing it manually has been the only way to do it without changing the tone. I can hear the Sonic changes in all de-essers. Can’t wait to download it.
Question- would you really use this daily ITM versus Wiess DeESS or Sonnox SuperDeESS for daily stuff, crazy bad recordings on bad mics, or something else entirely?
