I got an email from nOb Control today saying they have a new batch available. Check their website or get on their email list if you're interested

Wow! This is one of those things that makes so much ergonomic sense once the concept is fleshed out! What better form of interface to control a 'virtual knob' than an actual 'knob'! I think I need one of these! Also, I couldn't help but gawk for a minute at that white guitar on the wall! 😮

That white guitar 🤤 What a gem buddy. You made an absolutely unreal instrument for me!!! It's been a joy to get to know her and cannot wait to shoot a video showing it off 🙌🏻

That’s a dope little piece of kit. Love the idea of adding back the analog feel as you tweak your mixes
@TheSoundCoop

It's a lot of fun and definitely closer to an analog feel. The quality is also super good. The knob manipulates so well I can work more precisely with less error. It's killer for video and audio editing too. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

I clicked onto the website thinking this would be difficult to get...the guy who makes it lives up the road from me. Who knew? And...it looks like I got there first...one of THE big problems in rock n roll is nobcontrol. ..... boom boom.

Do you live in Greece? Seems like the company is based there but I was always curious where they make them. Regardless, I'm super happy you were able to get one. Congrats! Please report back and let us know how you use it. I'm always looking for new ways to work.

Liked it at first, especially for things that I wanted super linear like EQs or automation, but the speed of just using my mouse still works better for me. Having to flip the switch per plugin or function required was a bit cumbersome for my workflow. It really is a super solid unit though for people who are looking for more tactility. Currently selling mine if anyone is interested!

I totally appreciate the speed thing. If It doesn't make you faster, what's the point? For me, I definitely shave off a lot of time using it because it's simply more accurate than a mouse. There's no friction or drag and you know what you get as you're turning. Trimming audio and video clips, fine-tuning fades, scrubbing, etc. Extreme time saver for me. I tend to run the mouse in my left hand and adjust the nOb with my right. When you talk about flipping switches for different functions, what are you referring to? I pretty much never touch the switches. You don't need to change any axis stuff when switching between knobs, faders, buttons. What modes are you switching between to compensate for which tasks? Genuinely curious. I definitely don't use it for stuff like level settings of faders. If I did I suppose I'd need to change between functions. But I don't see a use for the 'follow' function aside from none automation based fader adjustments which I still use the mouse for. For me I use it for all knob manipulation, and all my automation duties, and editing. Where are you selling yours? I've been thinking about getting another one to keep at my video editing station so I don't have to keep unplugging and replugging. If the price is right I might have to grab yours.

@@TheSoundCoop Not knowing, but I suspect that person might be using the more advanced features, for moving between controllers, without having to use the mouse. If I remember correctly, there are additional modes, that are activated via the touch sensitive switches. I don't own on, because it is out of my budget, but when I looked in to it, I saw all those control options and just thought, that looks way to cumbersome, I would just use the basic functionality (I had actually already thought of the concept before this came to the market, and it should be really cheap to make, as it uses standard mouse movements, and add a memory chip, to allow it to jump back, but this actually has a more advanced controller chip inside it for additional features).

I would love to buy it from you! I suffer from carpal tunnel for using the mouse all day. This will save me so many clicks and drags.

Do you have to keep the mouse button pressed for the controller to work or just simply hover over the item you want to adjust.
@TheSoundCoop
@TheSoundCoop 25 дней назад
Usually I use the mouse to navigate to a given item I want to adjust. Then when you grab and hold the knob, that's like clicking and holding the mouse button. When you let go of the knob, it's like letting go of the mouse button. Completely touch sensitive just like a control surface

Audient soundcards can do the same, but they control the mouse scroll wheel. Id4 cost $100
@TheSoundCoop

How does the soundcard control the mouse wheel? 😉
@TheJonHolstein

@@TheSoundCoop id has an encoder that can be switched in to control mode... but I think it uses scroll and not mouse. There are some nektartech products that supports taking control of the last touched parameter (in some DAWs), but it then uses midi (their new cs121, currently only logic but more coming, has the option to switch between motorized fader or encoder for control over the parameter). There is also the iCon Pro Audio V- and P-series of controllers that also has a similar function (click a button and use the jog-wheel to take control over last touch parameter). There was a specific cubase controller that took control over any parameter you are hovering above with the mouse, and presonus faderport series and the IO station 24c does that within studio one (hover over presonus plugins, or last touched parameter for 3rd party plugins). (there is also a ableton device that lets you assign any midi controller to work as a controller for the last touched parameter, but it only works with last touched parameter in device view, but it is free). The nobcontrol makes more sense, because it doesn't rely on any control script, so it works in any software (but like I commented in another comment, it could be made cheaper if they dropped the additional features, that many aren't even looking for).

If you were feeling like the knob looks small, it's just my large hands. The center part of the metal knob is a little bigger than 1.25 inches, making it considerably bigger than a nob on any control surface or midi controller I've seen. Meanwhile, Metagrid doesn't seem support Windows or ProTools which isn't a good sign if true 🤷

@@TheSoundCoop oh it is a pitty. I am super good with trackpad and keyboard ⌨️ forever. Magic mouse i ditched. Metagrid might not connect or crash… Just consider buying 5 big faders. But as a mixing engineer i would invest in a big desk with mechanical faders…
