On RTX 2080Ti it works flawlessly. No drops or whatsoever. 2080 Max-Q in Triton 500 also. But on 1660Ti (Helios 300) i'm still getting encoder overload error during intense moments of full screen apex legends session. Why :D? Gonna test 21x tommorow with 1080 :d

I can't begin to describe how I am happy I am with this! I didn't think this would come for a long, long time. This has been a thorn in my side for a long time, and I was considering getting a second streaming PC to fix this problem (which I really didn't want to do, because I'd rather spend the money upgrading my gaming PC). As a former single PC gamer and streamer since December 2015, who moved to a dual PC setup in July 2018, this is amazing news and progress! The main reason I moved to the dual PC setup was due to me continuously encountering rendering lag/stalls in OBS when trying to play and stream games running in ultra settings, unlocked frame rate, full screen at 2560x1440 with my monitors refresh rate set to 165 Hz and G-Sync enabled on a GTX 1080 Ti. Once I learned about the Live Gamer 4K GC573 through your video, EposVox, I took the plunge and it's been working great. The biggest trade off, for me with going to the dual PC route, is that I had to drop my monitors refresh rate down to 120 Hz (from the OC'd 165 Hz) and I had to disable G-Sync, both so I could get a smooth frame rate on stream with no screen tearing. Even with that, I have no complaints with the dual setup. But if I'm able to go back to a single game and stream setup with the minor caveat of not having as high a frame rate in-game, I may seriously consider going back to that route in the future. My GTX 1080 Ti was just recently replaced with an RTX 2080 Ti so I don't think I'd have to sacrifice a whole lot in terms of in-game performance. When you did your testing in this video, what was your output (scaled) resolution, downscale filter, and FPS set to in OBS? I know from a previous video you explained why streaming in 1920x1080 at 60 FPS with a low(er) bitrate isn't typically optimal, but I am wondering if the rendering lag/stalls are any worse when going from 1280x720 60 FPS to 1920x1080 60 FPS when running OBS as an administrator. I do know that the rendering lag/stalls would occur even without streaming or recording, but I am curious if, or how much it is effected, when actually streaming or recording. Hi Epos, I am in your discord and wondering if you could help me. No matter what I do, no matter what guides I follow (even this one) My fps drops drops to 10-30 on OBS even with an RTX 2080ti and running games at the LOWEST graphic settings possible and frame limit. I ran obs on admin mode and tried several more things, was never able to fix it.
bro ik your problem, go to nvidia control panel, then for the physx setting, then choose nvidia processor, then go to obs settings, output recording, and choose nvidia nvec new as encoder. hope that helps

As a parent you want to develop a well rounded person, able to take on many challenges in the world, stand on their feet, be a good citizen, a little entrepreneurial etc. _ So, the gaming/streaming thing is just another activity. A valid one, worth doing well, in balance to the rest of life... _ They all run around, fall out of tree's, have fun at the beach, play with lego, read books, but... also get math coaching All Year Round - including holidays, where their math coach is present for more hours per week than actual classes in school! _ And they have to 'earn' their VBucks, usually tied in to some formula of chores and/or academic performance and advancement. _ So, on a weekday, its maybe 30 to 60 minutes in total of gaming (depending on how early they wake up), and that can blow out during holidays, or in lead up to a comp to a maximum of 6 hours. _ Fortnite is cool, as it's a "shooter", but without malevolence of graphic violence - even The Wife can, er, tolerate it. _ Technically, I see it like chess in 3d, in real time - there is real cognitive advancement as you have to think several seconds ahead, and be aware of the total game environment - topology, resources, probabilities of threats and opportunities, while balancing your intentions with your team goals, and have fine motor skills, as the keybinds have you in a matrix of 5 x 5 x 4 in any given moment.

I cant find out how to get better frame rate in my games while using obs. When i use obs and record or stream it cuts my framerate of my game in half. I have a $1200+ Gaming laptop and i can easily run these games i play in high fps without obs recording it
One thing I haven't seen posted around enough is to right click game capture, hit properties, tick (turn on) "Limit Capture Framerate" option in OBS (any version, slobs as well). This limits obs to only capture what you're outputting rather than as many frames as it can. Made a HUGE difference on games like PUBG with an R9 390 and FX8350 (using AMD gpu encoder) and also made games playable on my old 1060 3gb. No negative effects that I've seen.
This was literally the the best fix for OBS I have found. running a 2 year old predator laptop and I watched so many videos trying to fix not only stream fps issues but recording fps dips. Thank you for posting this.

i drop frames by just switching almost empty scenes and with just OBS open and with all these (wtf) fixes applied etc on a dual monitor setup, also when switch windows focus between my dual sceen setup.. and i have a 3000 $ rig... this is driving me crazy since months... i have been on any possible forum and tried literally everything, nothing changed, on i side note, i don't loose any frame when gaming. (play at 2k max settings - stream 1080, 60 fps NVENC2, fps capped) unless i touch scenes or move focus from game to obs. IS THIS NORMAL ? thanks !
Finally someone who could tell me what the hell was wrong. I went to a two pc setup because my freaking 1080ti couldn't handle streaming and playing but their "optimizer" said I could with ease
You're a legend man. I speedrun Halo CE and some tricks require the Anniversary graphics. Every time i switched graphics OBS, not my game, would drop down to like 20 fps. It was disgusting. Its December of 2020 and it was still doing that with Administrator off. I just ran OBS with Admin on and it completely resolved that issue. Literally see no compromise to in game FPS. Thank you, thank you!!
still not working for me in any fps game, call of duty or destiny, stats page doesnt say im losing any frames but the games output on the stream fluctuate between 60 and 10fps constantly
I did this and obs streaming runs fine but I get a huge fps drop in games I'm talking 50+ frames, I have a i9 9900k and a 3090, game mode on and running as administrator and using new nvenc. How are you only losing a couple of frames and I'm losing 50+ in game ?
Not gonna lie that vhs flicker effect you've got for the charts around the 3min mark actually made me feel a little motion sick 😅 Love love love that OBS has finally addressed this issue. I've had this happen to me on Amid Evil and Celeste recently and nothing I was trying was working. I'll test this tonight and see what happens!
agreed.. the faux retro scanlines are ok, but the faux retro VHS tracking / CRT alignment wobble at the bottom right of the screen was really distracting / annoying
Hey Epos I have a Radeon VII. And a 2950x and 64gb of ram at 3000mhz. I've never had these issues. But my cousin has a i9 9900k and a 2080 8gb. And has had theses issues. Why have I never had this problem, but he has? But we are recording and NOT streaming. I dont have this issue, he does.
In which windows version version actually started? I remember first problems started somewhere in 2017 but it got worse over time but that may be just my memory. Did someone documented this?
Just tested it on one pc, as i usually have two, but a full PUBG game with everything on peachy settings, even a 2080Ti sits at 95% usage all game. I recorded the whole thing in pretty serious OBS settings (ugh, 27GB for one game), and not a frame missed and game ran 144+fps pretty much all the time. Great video @Eposvox
Starting the stream normally works out fine but if I set a delay, say 5 minutes, OBS drops frames and won't connect. Any idea on a fix? Thanks so much!
My Story: Started streaming with 1pc & had Horrible in-game frame rate. Intel 4790k w/ 1070gtx So I buy 2nd pc w/ elgato hd60pro Change my gaming rig from Intel to AMD 2700x Old Elgato doesn't work with AMD.. fml.jpeg RMA Elgato not a huge deal, about 3 months after RMA Elgato dies again and Elgato says sorry, sucks to suck. It's been a heck of a time streaming around three years being owned by a single pc setup losing frames like MAD tinkering until I found something that worked because I knew something was screwy and did hours of research to no true answer Now we are here and I pray this works I'll cry from joy! ily guys
i tried every fix on the web but nothing fixes my issue with stream lags, ive lowered down everything and it it's still lagging like hell. my internet is at 30mbps my PC specs are i5 6500 nvidia gtx 1060 6gb 16gb ram DDR4 i dont understand D:
After the last OBS update I am getting really bad Audio Robotic audio (buffer underflow) when my render goes down. I am suspecting something to do with my CPU. It was working fine before. I don't really know if it is from OBS or from Virtual Audio Cables. It randomly goes between the normal and robotic voice. Any solution?
Did this get broken again??? Trying to use OBS to stream Red Dead Redemption 2 and without OBS open my GPU usage isn't even capped out usually 60-80% with 60fps locked. But I open OBS to capture and usage jumps to 99% and my FPS tanks down to ~45-55fps. The stream or capture looks jittery and choppy because of it!
I'm curious..is there a reason, why the Apex Legends and especially PUBG footage shown in the beginning of this video is visibly stuttering while talking about how smooth it's working now? Is it just old game play footage from before the new OBS 24.0.3 tests? I'll give 24.0.3 a test tomorrow.
OK but my game is being connected to my PC from my Xbox Series X via an Elgato HD60s+ and my GPU is at 35~% and it is on admin on...I still have the problem though
Thank you so much for this video. I learned about the OBS running as administrator fix last year and it has been a huge game changer for streaming PC games. I stream Valorant now and even though I own a RTX 3070 graphics card, I've noticed my client FPS in the game drops. OBS runs fine. Your statement on performance "trade-off" is what I needed to hear because I've been looking for solutions to this. I wanted my client FPS to remain around 200 FPS (I have a 240Hz monitor) but with OBS running, I have to accept that I won't be able to run that high.

i tried x264 today, the game dropped more than 50% of frames, and the cpu usage was nothing more than 30%, i'm curious + i am experiencing some stutter when streaming with nvenc new (1660 oc) , that happened when i upgraded my cpu from ryzen 5 3600 to ryzen 7 3700x! what's wrong?
Can someone help me? Whenever I stream/record my obs shows 60fps but the video stutters. I know that my computer is not causing it. The usage of both cpu and gpu doesn't exceed ~60/70% while streaming. I don't have any rendering lag. I think that important thing is when obs is set at 60fps I play on 75hz monitor and have chat, dashboard etc. on the second one, which is 60hz (but tbh I didn't have any problems like that on my old pc which was much worse than current setup).
I can't figure out what's going on with my OBS. When this video was released a couple of weeks ago I updated OBS and ran as admin, and it seemed to fix all my problems. Since then I've done a fresh install of Windows 10 (updated to 1903). Since then I'm back to square one, getting rendering lag and a heap of dropped frames again. This is using NVENC (new) and capping my fps to use around 75% - 80% of my GPU. I've tried all combinations of v-sync, g-sync and game mode on or off, and just can't get a smooth recording, even though I don't seem to be bottlenecked anywhere. I'm just about ready to give up.
I have a 4k PCIE Capture card installed in a Ryzen 7 1700 with Nvidia gtx 1070 and my Gaming system is a Intel i7 8700k with Nvidia Gtx 1080 should I use GPU encoding? In the past I have been running x264 encoding at 1280x720 on Fast encoding at 60 fps recently I have lowered this to 30 fps and set my threads as 16.. Which should i use? Will i actually benefit from gpu encoding?
amazing! new AIO gaming/streaming PC: Ryzen 3900x/RTX2080superOC/RAM16GB - in OBS 24.0.3 still stuttering/lag at 1080/30 every second and skipped frames from rendering AND encoding happened. Running as Admin fixed it completely. 1080/60/8000bps/MaxQual preset Love yer man - your input and insight has been soo amazingly helpful - from OBS to my Samson Q2U and making this choice for the new rig. i usually use stream labs and when i use a game capture source i can stream 144 refresh rate and 144 fps on both stream and gameplay, i do have a 1080 TI though. but these tips really helped me fix alot of things thank you!
Is it possible that a rtx 2060 can’t run this game at 144fps at medium settings while running the encoder at max quality? I try and I always end up skipping frames. I’ll try running as admin but I’m considering making a jump to a 2060 super or 2070 super to alleviate my pains.
I keep testing and testing... X264 720P CPU > any setting on my GTX 1060. The stutter and frame drops don't go away anytime soon, worst thing is that OBS doesn't show any loss but there is ton of FPS been lost. I might need to update my W10 eventually to fix this issue...
This is very nice. Hopefully they'll get the Vulkan game capture done soon, I know they're working on it, and I'm really looking forward to it. I fear there will be no UWP fix though :( I've been having issues where I have to capture/stream Apex Legends in 30 FPS if I use my normal resolution of 1440p. Will test it now with 60 to see how it works.
I have the opposite problem. obs and streamlabs never drop my frames. I start to get fps drops in games like r6s, overwatch etc. when i stream and I can't figure out why. if you have any insight on this would be great. 8 months ago when i started to stream i never had a problem. now even after getting more ram, SSD, replaced my CPU to an unlocked one still running a gtx 1060. so what would you think would stop this from happing?

Hello, just my quick observation. I record VR gameplay of ACC. When I have game window selected, OBS is dropping frames so much. Admin command definitely helps to lower the drops. But when I have OBS window selected I have ZERO frame drops on OBS. I can still drive and record the game because I play on wheel and VR screen. Same settings same everything and dont need admin command just selected OBS window. Game frames are good as well. I just cant select the game window to press ESC or use mouse. I still can use wheel to control game menus.
Wondering if this might be my current issue. Recently upgraded to a 4k monitor and for whatever reason I can't get solid recordings. They're super laggy and the framerate drops to rock bottom. I'm using a 3080 ti graphics card, 32 gb of ram and an i5 10600k cpu. Never had this issue before. Lowering the refresh rate on my monitor (144hz) down to 120 and even 60 doesn't seem to change anything. Great videos man. Keep them coming, they're very helpful!
can someone help me I have a 2080 ti + i7 9700k i have tried a lot of settings none work I just can't record. Now when I try to record the stats bar says it is not skipping frames but the video is still choppy. The game I play easily go over 60 fps
Finally! ;-) superb news! Personally I had issues with recording Apex Legends, so I had to use some workaround to record it in 60fps. It worked, but workarounds are.. well, workarounds, they shouldn't be used permanently, so I'm glad the issues have been found and fixed! GJ and keep it up, devs working on OBS studio!!
So my issue is Cpu. Obs still uses 40% of my 6700K even with Nvenc and my OVERALL gpu (GTX 1070 Overclocked Edition) is 60-70% bu my cpu is usually maxed or at 90% and dropping frames in fortnite (200 down to 100 with several instances of dropping below 60. This is new and may just be an update but Im curious to know if there is anything I can do).
hello sir can you help me with my problem ? recently i play and stream PUBG in my pc for almost a month with 60hz monitor no log no stuttering whats ever but last week i bought 144hz monitor and my pubg streaming started to stuttering i cannot stream pubg now but for the other games i can .. is 144hz monitor affect my pubg streaming ? correction sir my gameplay is okay but for the viewers its freezing i can only here the sound of the games but the actual game itself not showing up . any suggestion sir what will i do ?
When I run the OBS with admin mode, I could see the difference while playing. I never imagine that could solve my problem. Thanks for your information!!! Now I could stream and record my video in 1080p.
I am experiencing just the opposite of this issue. My games run flawlessly when I am not streaming, but as soon as I open the OBS, the game itself starts to stutter and becomes unplayable. I am not using display capture since it does not like Aero. why pubg gives me gpu usage 60 - 70 % most times in low settings and 99% ultra settings with consistent fps in both low and ultra setrings!!! thats strange , gpu usage must stay 99% and increase frames why ia this happens. my specs i7-8700/gtx 1080/ 16 gb ram 2666 / 256 ssd also i stream pubg and the gpu usage is making my life hard while streaming 😑😑😑😑
Ok quick question. Just got my pc. 2070 super, r5 3600, 16gb of ram. I'm trying to record Destiny. I get 70-80 fps at 4k max, but i lock it down with vsync. Obs can't record gameplay flawlessly, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4k, NOTHING WORKS. I've tried every setting, nvenc, x264, other nvenc, nothing works. But Shadowplay can record at double the bitrate (80k as high as i'm comfortable with due to file size), with 0 frames lost for the whole recording. WTF IS HAPPENING? and does this video fix my issue? Edit: it seems like this would work. But my encoder stress is only at 30%. So i should'nt be having resorce problems in the first place. 2nd edit: it works.
NO WAY, my recordings lagged really hard even the mouse was stuttering but only in the video ingame it didnt, and then i saw this video and u gave on tip, it is the easiest thing to do, i just switched from minecraft 1080p settings to 720p and every problem is gone LOOOL i am soo dumb thank you dude
Game mode was already on for me. Tried recording a valorant game but it gives like .25 seconds of laggy recording then it freezes for like 5 seconds and then gives me 1 frame then repeats. Will have to try administrator and limiting fps in game

In iRacing (5760x1080 triple screen), I get occasional FPS hitches recently, used to never happen. I'm baffled to what causes it. Using a Ryzen 5 3600, GTX 1070Ti, 32GB ram. Canvas is already set to 1920x1080, using NVEC (new) codec, etc. Most other (racing) games are running good though except Dirt Rally 2 in VR which stutters A LOT (that's a SteamVR mirror issue which Steam needs to fix). EDIT- I may have figured it out, someone I was talking to mentioned adjusting fps cap, so I put it +2/+3 fps over my monitor refresh and now the OBS stream is pretty smooth so far. I hope that was the fix. :D
