Does your house have an EV charging point installed?

My old terraced house has an outside toilet - will that do?

@@maltesetony9030 Composting? I'm sure you can generate electricity from that!

A work colleague has a new build and it came with electric car charge point. He replaced it though as it was not a good one. I suppose Volex will do brilliantly out of this. They used to be sub £1 not so long ago :-( !!

We looked at a few options when we got our driveway charger fitted last summer and settled on PodPoint, but there does seem to be a real range of quality out there.

No, I don't think it's great news. Politicians should stop getting inside of our homes. These kind of policies more often than not backfire with undesired consequences, e.g. being ripped off with low quality products just to tick the box and then having to replace with a better one if you really intend to use it, paying twice and wasting twice. And so many others like all the corruption that forms around compulsory goods. If someone wants to have a charging point at home, no one is preventing them from doing it.

Thanks Miguel. It will be interesting to see the detail when this law is brought forward to parliament. Hopefully, the government won't insist developers pick a particular brand, and consumers/homebuyers will be savvy enough to investigate the quality of installed chargers before making an offer. As we all know, the quality of housing developers out there varies a fair bit (!) but some are doing quality work and using quality materials. Cost implications, though.

Well this could backfire and increase housing costs a little but hopefully not and hopefully the maintenance on the charging stations is not too expensive.

I think the government hopes that developers will absorb the installation costs (!) or (more likely) buyers won't notice the cost, assuming property prices continue to rise. We had our driveway charger fitted last summer and, fingers crossed, no maintenance required yet. They do seem like pretty robust units, and that's only the domestic ones. The commercial chargers must be accompanied by a maintenance and servicing agreement.
