Exactly the video I needed to see, upgrading from a Trigon 190 to a Rio 350 later this year and have been in two-minds about changing the filter. This has completely made my mind up, going to upgrade to the 1500 pump aswell. Watched your other video doing-up the Trigon 350 aswell some effort bud 👏
Thanks Warren,I try to get really good surface agitation on all my tanks for good gas exchange, the only downside is lack of co2 in my planted tanks wich I'm countering by using liquid co2 instead injected ,but on a ciclid tank like that it don't matter .
@@tigertropics5386 liquid co2 does not exist, carbo additives are just gluteraldehyde. nice cichlid tank though :) on your planted tanks you can go with less surface agitation and if you get a film on top you can use a skimmer.
@@aquagenetics3366 hi ,thanks for reply and yeah I loved that tank unfortunately I had to get rid of it for the landlord here ,I take it that lower flow means more tank maintenance because I've always done high flow for the oxygenation but I've been aware I was cutting my nose off because of the Co2 ,so then dealing with black beard .I might attempt to do a nano Dutch Scape kinda tank next year so would definitely appreciate some advice if that's ok ,as the channel is a novice/starter perspective on fish keeping so I and the veiwers would definitely appreciate any advice . Tash
You don't actually need much surface movement, you just need a current and you don't need as much filter media as most people think. You are just increasing maintenance and increasing energy cost by having multiple filters.
How did it work out for you? I did the same on my juwel 240 removed fx4 and installed the internal filter back . Looks better and the wattage on pump is way lower than fx4
Hey Shane ,worked out fine I went for the 1500lh pump in it and worked out perfect,I was running two fx4s which had amazing surface agitation, which I needed power heads to get the same surface agitation but overall was a much cleaner setup
@@tigertropics5386 I only have the medium on my tank but stuffed bottom half with alfragrog and sponges on top . I only have 12 mbuna in there and they seem fine . One day I hope to get a 450 litre but this cost of living thing seems to have buggered up everyone’s plans.
Yeah dude I hear that , Thursday put £10 on my key today another ,I really want expand and more tanks but not the way I'm going , believe it or not the 450 will be a little bit more to run but not as much as you think ,I'd jump straight to a 6x2x2 sumped tank and look for a economic return pump
I have the 240litre version stocked with Boesman and Neon Dwarf Rainbows and a Angel, i can not shift the floaters and tried everything so was thinking maybe it is the pump that needs upgrading from the 600 to the 1000? Would that be too much flow for the angel and Rainbows? I just dont know what to do at the moment the floaters wont go away.
@@tigertropics5386 No sorry, i meant particles in the water, only option left is to try upgrading the pump like say, but was worried itll blow my fish around.
Hi thanks for watching the channel, yeah I did with a better wavemaker it worked fine , instead of getting hung up with 10x filter turnover I went with 10x tank turn over .this seemed to bring everything up from the bottom and eventually all went into the filter so I kept it because it just looked better and easier to maintain.i do also start with upgrading the filters motor with the 1500 lh pump just because I didn't think the 1000lh was up to it and 3 times tank turnover gotta be better than two ,well that was my thinking.i learnt with this setup that I had to fuck about with the positioning of the wavemaker
I’m going to take my fluval off tomorrow and upgrade the pump from 600 to 1000 I have a wave maker coming tomorrow can you do a video of where to position it ?
Hey mate i also have juwel 450 rio. I took the heater out of the filter And replace the intake from a oase 850 it looks perfecht. Now I think about how too install the fx6. I think about too change snakes too 16 mm so I can close the top of aquarium.😊 And hello your water is werry clean. I have soil. So I thing I Will try the jbl skimmer on the fx6
Hi ,yeah I did otherwise it want to drift a little and the fish get behind it ,I used the Hutchins gold label silicon because it sets in water but it is tricky to use
Yeah it says it is and I didn't have any problems, remember to max out the bio ,you don't need tons of sponges and use the most powerful pump you can put on it
Gonna have to lean something on it so it don't move and clip it on the top so it don't sink ,best thing is silicon it in empty, have your normal filter running while it sets then fuck about with it
Hi thanks for watching,I can't remember at the moment how much media went into my juwel jumbo but it was more than enough ,I always used setup too many filters and go over the top on some of the setups ! .Ive learnt that filter turnover isn't the same as tank turnover.
