Someone probably has commented this, but for those who don't know Jaspar is getting revenge for you killing his family in the first game. Those throwaway missions of the "Pizza Butt" employees were his family. The company was renamed to pizza bat in the sequel.
Well, the father was the pizza butt employee while Helter and Skelter are his brothers, said at the beginning of the second game during the first cutscene
2:56:12 this whole scene is actually an homage to Rocky 3 when Apollo trains Rocky on the beach. They foot race in slow mo and then do “splashies” in the water lmao. Great video btw.
Hey, we made "Itadakimasu"the music for the Stand along with MEEBEE in No More Heroes III. Thank you for all your hard work creating this video and giving No More Heroes some love and more life. We're glad you enjoyed the music as well! Stay positive and drink plenty of water ❤️
I remember hearing this little fun fact. In the first game, when Travis is listening to his sister's story, she's actually telling a story and isn't just speaking giberish. When slowed down, you can actually hear the story.
what always intrigued me about this series is that comparing travis from the first game to the third; they are almost not the same person anymore. The change from travis being a man who only wants the riches of the world and the benefits to becoming an assassin not caring about the people around him, to a family man who wants to be with his family and protect his friends is crazy.
how? i mean, i haven't played the games but if the video is anything to go by, he asks about his children a single time, thats pretty low bar to be considerate a "family man"
@@vikinggamer7727 nope you’re just too dumb to understand that he’s a foil character and entered the world of the alternate killer7 and unlocked his third eye
i hope you dont suffer from the same yt algorithm situation again your such an underrated channel you deserve the best(okay i know he is not underrated it was supposed to be a compliment you literal youtube watchers)
@@naw9549 half a million subs only compare that to the passion he puts in his videos now compare that to other youtubers that got millions of subscribers and has the most clickbaity garbage of a thing people call content
Since you have switched over to video game overview and analysis, this has become one of my favorite channels. I love video games but have to be selective of which ones I play nowadays. I just don't have the time that I used to, so I experience the games I will never get to play through videos like this. You do an amazing job, and know what you do is appreciated.
Hey man, that's far too generous, watching the videos and leaving a comment is more than enough to show your support! Thank you though, It's much appreciated, I'll keep making videos on bizarre games and letting you live vicariously through them for as long as you're interested!
>Me, who never even heard anything about this series except the title >bored so decided to clicked on this video >watched the most of the video >got invested so much in the story >stopped the video at the nmh3 part to avoid spoiler >bought the game the next day. Also addicted to Margaret ost. 10/10 video.
Fun fact: Prince Fu was voiced by Noshir Dalal, who would go on to voice Charles Smith in RDR2 and a Taco Bell commercial. Not to mention his many voices in the Star Wars games.
Honestly this game series is one of my favorites ever and holds a special place in my heart. Travis is one of my favorite video game characters of all time and I really love seeing people talk about it.
That super homoerotic sequence with Notorious and Travis is definitely a nod to Rocky III, where there's a training montage between Rocky and Apollo Creed that's equally homoerotic. Just two bros running together down by the beach and frolicking in the waves...
Imagine being so twisted and overstimulated that two men cannot enjoy each other's company without being gay You must look at the soldiers who died at Pompeii and claim they were lovers. Ridiculous
This is a franchise that, aesthetically and philosophically, I identify with very strongly. At its heart, No More Heroes is a story about what it means to try and get by in the world today. It means working dead-end jobs in the hopes that you can eventually do the back-breaking labor you LIKE, and praying that you won’t end up hating that too. It means questioning what you ultimately want out of your life, or whether you’re destined to die a failure. It means maturing as an adult without losing that childlike spark that makes anything worth a damn. It means sinking to the depths of nihilism, remembering all the people that care about you, and picking yourself back up again. It means sacrifice, indulgence, triumph, regret, and making shit up as you go. No More Heroes is a love letter to the burnouts, to the losers, to the bright young idealists and the surly old pros. It’s depicts with sleazy, glorious, Wii-mote-swingin’ ludicrousness the desperate struggle to succeed in our modern capitalist hellscape. And it’s absolutely beautiful.
Fun fact about Pizza Bat, it's supposed to be Pizza Butt, the pizza place from the first game. Travis was tasked with killing the "new boss" multiple times through the "optional" assassination missions
I Love how they tied the pizza business side missions from the first game to the second games final boss. Its super cool, unexpected, and funny. I wish it was talked about more here.
The fact that you've covered Deadly Premonition and this series back to back gives me insane hope that the universes will continue to align and we'll get an announcement soon on Hotel Barcelona, which is supposedly a joint horror project between Suda-san and Swery-san.
I love when an overall message is slightly hidden beneath the surface and really makes you sit back and think and it's even more impressive that a wacky batshit insane game series like this makes you do it.
Love how the section with midori is also a love letter to Fatal Frame, which Suda actually worked on the Wii and is probably the most loved on in the franchise. It has a Switch version now too
Yeah there was this running theme I call it a joke in JP media, how to appeal to western culture well just throw in a lightsaber and SW refs and you are good to go XD thinking and believing like magically everyone got to be a SW nerd LMAO
God I love this series. Truly ridiculous in all the best ways. Also, the calls from Sylvia coming through the WiiMote speaker was always such a cool level of immersion, to me
That scream that Travis does after getting kicked out of the car is amazing. Also fuck yes a 3 hour video. Definitely appreciate this keep it up my guy☔️
Fun fact: I've actually played let it die not many people beat the first boss and layer of the game I've beat the boss without losing a part of my sanity. Edit: let it die's death drive is created by the skeleton guy named Uncle Death making No more hero part of the let it die universe.
I like how your script is 0 filler, its actually dissecting the themes and design of the games, yet interesting and humerous enough that I genuinely thought this video was like an hour long, felt a lot shorter than it was, which is a very positive thing. Great job, really enjoyed this one.
Based on the character arc Travis had, the set-up for the sequel, and the claim there won't be another No More Heroes... maybe we'll get One More Hero or something?
I'm actually glad you covered the no more hero's series. Let alone love tf out of this. Also, a random fun fact bout Jeanes VA from NMH3 in which the VA is the same exact VA of Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat 11. It was even mentioned in gaming articles like Kotaku and PC Gamer noting his appearance in the 3rd title voicing a cat
To kind of explain Travis’s “death” in NMH3: Initially, there was a section where he died and went to Blackhole prison, but got scrapped because of time constraints. It’s revealed that Midori’s father is Flemmings, the main antagonist from Shadows of the Dammed who would’ve made an appearance during that segment. In fact, Travis mentions black hole prison when talking to FU before they fight.
@HandOnAttempt Yup, which is also why her sequence was more horror like and the weird demon hands. I think there's been very heavy foreshadowing that Grasshopper's next game is Shadows of the Damned related somehow, between both the very direct Shadows of the Damned references in Travis Strikes Back & No More Heroes 3, & the concept art they've been teasing of their next project looks INCREDIBLY Shadows of the Damned-esque. But to be seen.
Your videos are so great, I'm sorry youtube keeps censoring you for video game violence. I was watching this yesterday when the video disappeared mid-watch, which was something that has never happened to me before and is incredibly wild. I really hope youtube gets it' shit together and stops punishing its hard working content creators 😢
Thank you for working so hard on your videos and always introducing me to amazing game franchises I would have otherwise probably never ever found in my life.
3:08:08 "Not even my father hit me!" A famous line from the 1st Mobile Suit Gundam "Thunder Break" One of Great Mazinger's special moves, performed by striking that exact pose Also, in the Toku Quarry scene, Kamui interrupting Travis with by jumping in out of nowhere and being asked who he is a very signature Kamen Rider thing to do, where often the first time a Kamen Rider appears, they're often intervening and the first monster of the week is baffled someone would defy them and ask the Kamen Rider who he's supposed to be. Given his movements (No More Heroes can make him do any anime-esque flippant movement, but he's jumping stiffly like an actor on a string) and getup (the very 90s clothes and scard) I wouldn't be surprised if it's 1:1 matching the choreography of a Kamen Rider episode. This is a treasure trove of obscure Japanese nerd culture and with so many references being pointed out it wouldn't feel right not to mention those.
Some more I noticed from the Mecha fight in 2: The footballer's mecha is obviously inspired in design by the mech designs from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann what with the face in the torso. Glastunbory looks to me like a white version of Gunbuster while its entrance emerging out of a pool of water is how Mazinger Z emerges.
The character of Damon Riccitiello is based on EA chief executive John Riccitiello. The character was made to be a big middle finger to EA. also the school section of nmh3 is the same school from Moonlight Syndrome, a game Suda directed when he was still working for Human Entertainment. kamui's speech is in reference to Suda's Kill the Past series. as for Henry's striking change, it was explained in Travis strikes again. where he explained that he saw the movie Thor and how it opened up his mind. his voice change was due to Quinton Flynn not being able to reprise the role due to claims of sexual harrassment which amounted to false alllegatons
I have never been into games with this style of combat and story progression but this video really opened my eyes and I loved going thru the worlds and story’s of these games. Thank you for this masterpiece of a video and ur my number 1 content creator now
I love the part in the game where Travis Touchdown goes to a place and said "It's Touchdown time!" and the proceed to Touchdown all over the place And also the part where he said "Moe~"
A few notes about the final FU fight in NMH3, there are more windows to damage him that you can find through experimenting. You can use the death kick to hit him through his giant power geyser and use the death force to throw his energy ball back at him. Just these add a massive amount of depth and fun factor to the fight, just wish the game was better at communicating them to you.
This franchise wasn’t just fun, it was an experience. The first was my favorite and third is my second favorite. The characters make it an unforgettable experience.
This is genuinely one of my favorite channels to come to to watch (or often rewatch) retrospectives on media ive ever played or haven't seen before, keep up the amazing work you put out, its always a treat to tune in and see what you put out!
1:25:16. Without knowing it, you just made a fantastic connection with this stage's song. The song used in this stage is titled "Toothpaste," and though each song doesn't list who made it, this song stands out for how much more somber it is compared to the rest of the soundtrack. When taken into account that one of the composers listed for nmh2 is Akira Yamaoka, it's not hard to wonder who made this. And I don't think I need to explain who Akira is.
No problem! Akira Yamaoka was the main composer for the Silent Hill series up until Silent Hill: Downpour. The slower paced "toothpaste" sounds more akin to a Silent Hill song than a No More Heroes song. Unless it's revealed that someone else made the song. Then my whole comment falls apart.
Another thing I remember was that the composer Konami brought in to replace Akira for SH:Downpour was Daniel Licht. Who, amongst other works, was the composer for the Dexter TV show and Dishonored 1 & 2.
And now we are at the third swing! Will he be able to do it and just let the video as it it!? Or will he get another restriction!? Ladies, gentlemen and everyone else, let's wait and see for ourselves what the conclusion of this thrilling saga will be!
Probably one of the few original game developer companies around that as much as troll fans appreciate them and also care enough about their creation to go full circle and beyond. They've made what so many people fail at. A simple character development story. And No More Heroes is a character development story at heart.
Lets get the views up on this reupload everyone! Show RU-vid they can't muck long-form review creators around. Working for 3 months on a video, only for it to be flagged and demonetised upon upload is unacceptable. This is real content, not fodder to please the algorithm, not a daily, lazy upload. RESPECT creators who actually put work into their craft!
All things said, for the number of videos you’ve posted your viewership is out of this world. No matter how much editing goes into the vid, putting out your first video and getting a million views is like getting in an elevator and watching everyone else walk up the stairs.
Man this was a wild and awesome video on an over the top series. Travis goes from fighting a variety of crazy human assassins, to video game characters, and then aliens to save the world. The man is legendary and I enjoyed seeing every bit of his adventure told.
I'm sorry you went through so much to get this posted, but THANK you, because this channel is hella underrated for covering so many gems just like this one. No More Heroes is a weird ass fever dream and we love it.
have never heard of this franchise but can’t help but watch a 4hr video essay - great job, even as someone who doesn’t know what’s going on, the pacing was great and editing was on point !
Yeah and no wonder. I knew about it but completely missed out on this game experience vise due to the fact that next to no one had a stupid Wii and I begged them to port this to PS2 or PC which most of us had, which didn't happen until recently which I also didn't know up until now, but I don't have Steam anymore and don't play games anymore so "awesome" to these companies, people always failing to bring games on popular platforms and fail to deliver for people who actually ask for things .... I remember watching a playthrough of it in JP VA with ENG subs then moved away from it for decade+, up until now for some reason I got suggested this video and pleasantly reminded how silly this game was but still packet with interesting content and overall OK for the time since they released it on a lacking platform. I can only imagine how much more better content would be if they actually made it for PS3 and PC. At least they could try for PS2. Somehow they repeated this mistake twice with both NMH 1 and 2 being only on Wii for more then a decade. As for the video, great recap just 3+ hours bit too much, will have to come back and watch the rest on another day ...
Yep there you go. Took me about a week to finish the whole video but you absolutely NAILED No More Heroes and all the reasons why I love this franchise. It's whacky as hell but is a genuine love letter to anybody who enjoys video games. It's a super niche game for super niche fans, however offers something for everybody. Definitely in my top 5. Great work in this video as always.
A truly amazing video with deep analysis and real hardship put in this video. I really appreciate the amazing work and the amount of time put here. The amount of passion put here really is something else. I will watch anything you put on you channel just from the amount of effort alone. I can't wait form anything else you post.
About the gameplay of the first game: if you spam left or right while holding guard, you go into the "Shadow Dance" mode, which makes sense why they changed it for the second game. You could otherwise eviscerate 90% the enemies.
Funnily enough, it's like way easier in the 2nd game simply wait for any enemy to attack you and right as Travis' blocks it, you move the Joystick to eitheer left or right and there u go xDDD also more comfy than spamming left and right
I never had the chance to sink my teeth into this series. Thanks for a great series-wide commentary, it was entertaining. It helped me mourn and cope with the death of my recently deceased fiance.
I've never played this series, didn't know of its existence. I'm normally very on the fence because I don't get to experience the important stuff in a game for the first time if you watch a video like this, but the way you brought it is downright amazing! Loved it!
I'm doing my thesis on No More Heroes 1 and yesterday I added this video to my watch later playlist to "read up" on the subject as much as possible. Today I couldn't find it anywhere and thought I was going crazy lol. Thanks for the reupload!!
By far one of the most entertaining creators out there. I dislike rewatching videos but you, TPTV, have a charm. I always catch myself viewing your videos again and again, keep it up mate and here's for more to come!
You know I remember playing these games on the wii before they were ever announced to be on the switch or pc and I'm so glad these amazing games are getting so much coverage, so glad people can play this amazing series.
I can tell you I would’ve thought this game was weird and pointless, but the way he talks about it I’m like 40 mins in and still extremely interested. You have a great talent for this my friend!
3 hours long...and this is why I love this channel. You could have broken this up into 10+ separate videos. Yet you just give us one long banger instead. Legend, as always
Happy to see your hard work paid off and your video withstood RU-vid's batshit crazy attempts to stifle it. Impressive essay as always, I had no idea this series existed and boy have I missed out.
2:46:09 A note about “psychedelic” Velvet Chair Girl’s entrance and the animation you noted. The animation team behind it is AC-bu, who blew up in the West for animating Gal-O Sengen, which-like NMH-exploded in popularity in the West as a result from being so over the top with its style. A match made in fuckin heaven
I immediately felt like it was either made by them or an homage at least, especially with the music for that section sounding very similar. Feels great to know that's true
Yeah NMH blew up so much that they needed to sell the company and lay off staff XD Since they were stupid to release it only on a Nintendo console that next to no one had in the world even in the so called west that you mention ... People like you should choose your words better because if something was talked about and praised for few months in articles doesn't mean it blown up in popularity since the demand was never fulfilled. Both NMH 1 and 2 was stuck only on Wii for more then a decade ... We asked to be ported to PS2, PS3 and PC which was the popular platform in the world but it never happened. And I didn't even know there was a PC port in 2021 upon reading about it just now ... "it blew up" yeah NOPE I wont say anything about the animation team since I have no clue who you are talking about at the moment and I have no more time to check. Life calls ...
@@minmogrovingstrongandhealthy You ESL? I said NMH blew up (became popular) because it was so over the top with its “Suda game” style. Same way that AC-bu’s work for Galo Sengen blew up as a meme for its unique art style: they share a similar trajectory in their uniqueness as a claim to fame. Nothing I said was about sales data, though the fact that this video’s view count is in the millions and there are articles of praise written for a game that’s piggybacking off a franchise that had essentially been dead for a decade and people bought said game, I’d say that’s proof to its popularity and intrigue. To use your tone: People like you should *read* more carefully to actually understand the point someone is making. If you want me to run defense for the voices in your head, though, I’ll try: 1. Unless the NetEase buyout stipulated layoffs (I’d think it’s unlikely because GhM had, what, 20 employees when it split from GungHo?), I’ve not heard of any layoffs, so I guess the financial point I never made was wrong? 2. You’re flat out wrong about the Wii. It was *the* top selling 7th gen console. Globally. So, even if you want to disregard that Suda wanted to utilize the Wii remote’s motion feature for gameplay and/or the technical problems developing multiplatform ports (or that the Heroes’ Paradise port by feelplus existed in 2011), it’s not a bad idea to target the console with the greatest market share that also happens to align with the director’s gameplay vision.
2:05:34 Now I just have to hear your thoughts on the recent announcement of the Shadows of the Damned Remaster for current gen 😅 Also gotta say I love your work Your channel has easily became one of my favorites to watch ever since I found it months ago The long form retrospectives on these games/series that deserve having some more light on them is always a treat to watch
Loved it! I'm surprised you didn't mention the stupid plot point that you killed a million pizza guys in 1 and that s why the ultimate bad guy of 2 is mad at you. I remember being so disappointed when I played it back then but now I just find it hilarious 😂
I very very very much love your channel, with your entertaining and fun insights into games I’ve never heard of before being endlessly amazing spectacles I constantly return to, and I am just so happy that you are covering my favourite franchise - you’ve inspired me to buy NMH3 for a second time
