Alright, I'm gonna be honest. As much as I like the new gameplay features, it’s just missing the vibe of the first game. Maybe it’s because of the scarcity of items like healing items (here was shown like a box with medkit and several bandages). Though so far, it looks... good; they just need to take risks on putting several factors that make the first game unique (like Infection, kid zombies and the runners and the "K" option).

Probably because the characters are geared up in mainly 'tactical clothing' so to say, so it doesn't feel like you're just an average civilian survivor anymore but just a boring mercenary especially with someone talking to you on the radio regarding objectives. You're also walking into an area which already has been abandoned a while ago, so the whole surrounding chaos and the fear of getting overrun is gone which was something that NMRIH1's most if not all levels always had. I guess that in general it's no longer about the chaotic and exciting experience of civilization crumbling all around you but about the boring, overused "we're gonna make new civilization" aftermath to put it simply.

It looks like a pre-alpha, but I REALLY hope you'll get rid of the HUD. All of it. The first game was awesome because of the total absence of a HUD. Get rid of the HUD.

No HUD works for a linear map, not an open one. We know there are going to be more maps, but the launch map is just the one open world map. Less hud likely on linear maps. Don't hold your breath for it on the open world maps. Turn off the HUD option if it bothers you beyond that.

@@macdaddymario "Turn off the HUD" doesn't work as an argument the same way it doesn't for Skyrim. The game is built around the fact and putting a bandaid over the wound and pretending it doesn't exist does nothing.

“Just wanted to say a few things in response to some speculation s - First, EA launch is us putting forward a possible intersection between the previous game and the current market and we absolutely will be taking input on the direction for how to land that intersection well. We will take all feedback but also remember in broadening the audience the old hardcores are going to be served more in higher difficulties and nightmare modes. There is a ramp up to those difficulties to help new players adapt, but if you want brutally hard, we have it - We will provide more minimalistic HUD support over time, we just prioritized players knowing what to do for the EA launch build as step one until more UX can support - Melee combat, grabs, and animations all have major improvement plans and mostly what you see are compromises for EA so we can get direction and vision feedback before trying to finish this game without you guys. So that will all come - Also don't get too focused on the first map, yes there is just one for EA launch and we wanted to be clear about that, but the game ultimately remains about the evolving narrative between the maps and there is going to be huge variety between each map as we approach them as narrative pieces” This was posted by an admin from TB in discord

Truly written in corpo speak from that Torn Banner employee you quoted. I have never read anything of the OG crew written like that... this seems like yet another isolate the core fanbase, ship in the kids kind of game. You've been involved for a long time in the game, I'm sorry you are going to see so many distrustful comments like mine. I think everybody was really excited for the Oct 2022 game and this doesn't seem as fun or interesting - probably in the name of "broadening audiences". Let's see how this game goes down in "the current market".

If you don't like what you're playing, give that constructive feedback so the game can be the best that it can be. I'm really excited for it... although I'm a bit biased, having been apart of NMRIH since 2005ish. However, I'm still super excited to play it :-D

It looks like a good starting base, but obviously needs some polish to a lot of things. That's to be expected. I am still super excited regardless. It's one thing to have sick animations and sound etc etc but I also really hope the actual design/gameflow/game mechanics are something unique and addictive.

I waited for this game since first teaser in 2016. I am looking forward to try it out on EA release but I'm gonna be honest here. If many things we see in these gameplays aren't fixed and improved (mostly animations) until v1.0, I'm gonna regret my money and time with a lot of tears.

Same. Been waiting years, even more so after the delay because they wanted to improve it. I just hope they dont change too much, it isnt NMRIH anymore, its just another cliche. I also see the atmosphere has changed... not too fond of the significantly brighter colour scheme

At the moment this looks like a mix between Contangion and Hunt:Showdawn. I'm little bit worried about the new zombie grab, because it fells like zombies can basicly stunlock you, and easily overpower you, but I'm not sure.

Im fine with that part, it's somewhat realistic. If you get grabbed by 3 zombies you would be done. This isn't L4D where you can knockback 15 zombies with a melee strike and jump away. There are other issues I see that bother me more

The Source look is so heavily slept on IMO. The slight greyscale of Source really adds to the environments of the games that use it, like Insurgency.

I think it looks promising so far. The gore looks great, the animations are good, the graphics are good, and the atmosphere seems to be on par with the first game although it's hard to tell without playing it first. Atmosphere isn't something you can get from a 2 minute trailer but rather something you soak in after hours of play. Although I do agree with everybody else here that the waypoint markers and player nametags need to go. They're too bright and suck away the immersion. Seems like you guys already have a map system in place, so why not let players rely on that to get around instead of having those bright, garish waypoints? It could lead to interesting gameplay scenarios where players will have to risk leaving themselves vulnerable to check their map, punishing them for not being aware of their surroundings and paying attention to where they're going. Waypoints seem like a crutch for sub-par level design IMO

Really excited for the game, but this is supposed to be an immersive, grounded experience. The HUD should not be present all over your screen by default. There should be a button to reveal objectives/compass like in the first game so the objectives can be visible for players that need it, but hidden for those who wish to have more immersion.

Really like the graphics and the way the zombies die and get hurt. I think you need to turn off the HUD to complete the inmersion that NMRiH has, and the animation when you get grabbed. Also, a piano songs like NMRiH 1 would be very nice, like old Resident Evil piano soundtracks from ps1 and ps2

So whats the point of this game? I remember how excited I was in the first showings of this when you check your pulse as a way to check for damage, since in the original you had to ask friends what color your name was at. That had its own form of realism, but the vein checking was a great way to keep you immersed in the realism. Those giant, bright objective markers? Radio boxes showing up, a map that shows you where you are at all times so theres no tension in getting lost or forgetting locations?? Items coming up with a description instead of giving the player the benefit of the doubt that they're not stupid. Zombie kids being taken out. It's like death by a thousand cuts every time I see more of this game. These are things that were supposed to be enhanced and fixed. Are runners and infection even still in the game? I don't know how many of you even care about it actually being a sequel to such an amazing game. Still unmatched in the quality of its realism and respect for player intelligence and great map designs. Whatever you audience you guys are chasing, I wish you luck, I just wish I was a part of that audience.

The first NMRIH was, and still is, a refreshingly realistic and grounded take on zombie games. As much as I love playing Left 4 Dead for example, NMRIH is still an excellent example that realism can be done right in zombies. I think this instalment falls under many traps that plague modern games. For one, there's too much on the hud. I enjoy it when games get creative with their hud such as having the compass be a physical object on the character model itself. You even did this well in the first game by having to check manually how much ammo you have and having the character say the ammo count. It's small details such as that that benefit the experience so much. Having waypoints to every objective removes any incentive to explore the maps properly which is a bummer because the first NMRIH rewards you for actually exploring, whether it be ammo, weapons, supplies, etc. Even having the ammo count pop up when you do check your ammo removes the point of checking it at all. The game also looks too bright and too dark in places. NMRIH 1 benefitted great from the source engine because that engine is naturally gritty and evenly balanced with lighting. Going more down the middle and balancing the lighting would look better. Another thing that bothers me is how weak the guns feel. Compared to NMRIH 1, where even the pistols felt like hand cannons, they feel like toy guns here. The reactive body-parts being blown off is an incredible detail that I applaud, but it would be nice to see an audio update to make the guns pack more of a punch. Some of the character animations in particular are too overly animated as well. There's no reason to have the characters have such bouncy steps. Also, please bring back Bateman as a playable character. I'm excited for this game and have been for a while. Thank you for making another NMRIH!

When Torn Banner is involved, expect jank, especially when it comes to things like server browsers (broken for a long time in Chiv 1 and Mirage), party system (broken for 3 years in Chiv 2, no option to join friends in game), and voice chat (broken in Chiv 1 before being abandoned but still keybindable). One thing they always nail is art and presentation though.

This gameplay shows a little more about the game. The compass is better than the first game, the sounds are okay, except the character's voice, it feels a bit off. The HUD makes the game unrealistic compared to the first game, where you had an objective with a compass, that was better in my opinion. Also the zombie grab is seems a lot similar to the Dead Island games, I liked it more in the first game more, smashing buttons to push it away is not nmrih. Also I hope there will be zkids, they were harder to notice in the darker areas and were annoying in a good way. Also K button is needed, I don't want to attack my friends az a Z.

the radio station gameplay got me feeling a little worried about melee combat (zombies react too little when gettinf hit in the head and they seem very tanky), the new "screamer" (hate special infected) and the HUD; BUT DAMN this one got me hyped again, seeing this variety of objectives and how the zombies react when they get shot in the head. This looks very promising, I just hope feedback is taken into consideration on the following updates and a roadmap would be great too. You guys have my support and will have my money by the 22nd for sure.

Something I noticed during the grab animation is that the player seems to get locked out of doing anything for a few seconds after the animation ends. I think this should be addressed. maybe changed so that the player can move immediately after shoving the enemy back but still takes a few seconds until they can attack?

Looks cool but I hope this location markers and telling you exactly where you are on the map is going to stick around. Feels like some cheap Ubisoft handholding. I liked how you get into the house, barricade it while you unlock the door to get into the basement, creates a cool dynamic. One shot one kill in the head with zombies I too appreciate

I remember farmhouse, even though I haven't play NMRIH for ages. it had that cornfield, but was a pretty small map. It seems like it's combined with other POI on this map. I would like to see a whole mission play out, because that's where you really get to see what defines NMRIH. Sometimes you have to leave someone behind, but overall the mission was to get everone out.

This looks great, really hope those waypoints are toggleable though. Same with the nametags. NMRIH should be terrifying and immersive, not necessarily just a zombie sim. Environments could definitely be dirtied up more, with it being an apocalypse and all.

They should have the markers be in a map like silent hill 2 where its marked on the map instead of the markers constantly being displayed

They have outright said you will be alter every part of the HUD, and have it never show. This is pulled straight from one of their posts where they linked these videos. It may not come on release, but should hopefully follow shortly after. "Many viewers will have their eyes drawn to the HUD as shown in this early state of the game. Our intention is to have a system to allow you to fully customize every HUD element individually to display either on HUD, only on compass view, or never. We’ve prioritized these options to arrive to players as soon as possible, post-launch! The HUD seen here, like many still-in-development features in the game, is being delivered as-is so that we can get No More Room in Hell 2 into players’ hands and hear your feedback."

I must say that I played the first installment of this game when it came out, and I feel that this second part feels less alive than the first, I'm not saying that it's a bad game but the atmosphere of the first one and how the missions were carried out felt more natural, this game is more arcade at some point, in the first one you really felt like you were in a zombie apocalypse, I hope they improve the animations, which is what attracts the most attention at the moment and that they listen to the community.

i can definitely see peoples complaints about the HUD. an easy solution would be to do what they did in the first one and have it as a compass feature. Press the button to reveal info for a short duration. That could also include featuring player names. Because i would love to be able to identify who i am seeing and so on.

I really like what I see, but remove the HUD markers and make them appear on a compass. It would make the ambiance a lot more unsettling. Looking forward to the 22nd!

HUD elements and colorful markers are ruining the immersion, this is NOT NMRIH. Make the hud as minimalistic as possible and remove the markers, since searching for proper items and objective items was part of the fun

This looks more fun than the first game. Idc about hardcore, i want a fun experience. The first game had no direction and you get bite once and youre infected with 0 cure and it was impossible to beat the game

The gun play is pretty lack luster to say the least even the 1st nmrih made the guns more impactful and overall better to shoot im pretty disappointed and im currently replacing all the oxygen around me with copium i really hope everything gets better even though its been a long wait it still needs some work

Please let there be matchmaking options for the old inventory system of size based, and not 4 slot based like Contagion. And please for the love of god do not have the picatinny rail on the M9 be standard -_-

@@thechantedWhite Because with the exception of the M16A4 in NMRIH1, every weapon is in standard commercial form, not to mention, picatinny rear sight replacements for the M9 Barretta are a B and a half to find of good quality, and install. And it just looks blegh. A customizable option in a gunsmith menu, sure, 100%. But I do not want that to be what I am forced to look at

I played the original mod years ago and honestly, to see you guys making a sequel that already looks this amazing just warms my heart. It certainly looks more modern and with a HUD it feels more arcade-ish, but seeing a lot of people dislike it it could be an option to have it turned off and played the "classic" way as some form of Hard difficulty?
