Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ru-vid.comUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

I too am a Shimano dude and have been right after my go with the old Ryobis 40 yrs ago. I bought 2 Tatula 300's for glide/big swimbaiting and they work real well. One is on a MB "Destroyer Black Jack" and the other on a MB "Destroyer Tequila Baccarac". They do a good job though there is better to be had. Good fishin bro!

One thing I've noticed with Shimano, and Diawa bait casters; The Diawa's don't last, they tend to have more issues in my experience over time. I have numerous 5+ year old Shimano's that get cleaned/greased yearly and have had zero issues. I don't have a single Diawa that didn't have some sort of broken or failed part internal or external after 2 or 3 years of service. However, Diawa Fuego Spinning reels are my go to for saltwater light tackle, the magseal technology really works and keeps nasty salt water out of the internals.

I hear the same from some of my friends, that along with Shimanos BC and spinning casting further on ave I'll stick with Shimanos.

A few years ago I switched from ABU and Shimano RH reels to All Diawa LH reels and started out with CT HSL and moved up from there with no regrets. The JDM 1516 Zillions are my high end reels and I have nothing bad to say. Shimano makes awesome reels and I never owed the higher end BC reels however I did wear out some lower end BC reels in just a season. Tight Lines

I did the same thing, a few months ago. All my reels are Shimano, but I got a Zillion JDM from Japan Lure. The dollar is strong in Japan so I paid up, a little. Just over 2 bills, shipped. It’s butter, almost as nice as my Metanium.

That TWS system on Daiwa was a total gamachanger for me, because I only use super thin braid and jigheads. DC Shimanos also good, but TWS got less backlashes for me on windy conditions. Comparing those to other reels is not even fair game. Personal preference tho
@jamesh7469
@jamesh7469 Год назад
Generally Daiwa reels are known for casting really far with minimal effort, lazy lobs or gentle flicks will get really impressive distance with minimal effort. You need to try an SV for lighter stuff. Easiest casting reels on the market. It will become your new fluke reel for sure. SV is super free casting and extremely controlled braking, and they skip insanely well, it’s almost impossible to backlash

I bought the same exact one for my son before Christmas. It’s the cheapest one they make with the TWS (T-wing system) and it’s a great reel. I was a huge shimano fan like you but once I went to the Diawa Tatula line of reels, or the DarkSide, lol I never looked back. Their higher quality reels are awesome Bro. I now have Tatula reels on 5 of my 11 bass combos, from the Tatula 80 for finesse to the Tatula 150 for my jig setup. Also including Tatulas on both my Heater Rods

Strange coincidence. I'm also a ride-or-die Shimano guy, and decided to try Daiwa for the first time a few months ago with a bunch of birthday gift cards. I happened to pick exactly the same reel you did (CT100). I used it for the last six weeks or so of the tournament season. I was really impressed especially for the money. It makes me curious to try out some of their more expensive offerings. It really does hold it's own vs. the Shimanos in the same price range. Do I love Shimano any less? no. But I get now why my Daiwa-luvin buddies are so hot on Daiwa.

If you want to be blown away with a punching setup, invest in a Daiwa Zillion TW HD. It's a bullet proof setup for heavy braid applications including frogging. It would be a great comparison video between Shimano and Daiwa for heavy grass/mats that I haven't seen. I would love to hear your opinion.

Imo the tatula ct is the best bang for the buck! I’m not gonna act like I don’t love my metanium shallow, but for the money it’s hard to beat them tatulas. I have 3 tatula ct 100 hsl and they just work. May not feel like a curado/scorpion, but they cast a mile and are super smooth. There just isn’t another reel for $120 that even comes close. Maybe it's just me. I have a Diawa Zillion, a few 2020 Tatula SV T103's along with the new Shimano Curado MGL 150 and Scorpion MGL 150. They are all great reels but the Diawa's have a nasty habit. When using spinnerbaits and going for distance, I think I have them dialed in for no backlash. I'm tooling along just fine but with the Diawas, if I forget and overpower the cast, they will blow up in the very beginning of the cast. If I make adjustments to prevent it, I lose distance. I haven't had that problem with those 2 Shimanos. But for skipping, etc, the Diawas are great
@willtrax71
@willtrax71 Год назад
Like the Tatula over the basic SLX but bread for bread I have to say the SLX XT is far superior to the Tatula in smoothness but the Tatula has it on casting lol… It’s hard to beat a Shimano Reel for smooth but my Inception SZ is a bit smoother than my SLX lol it’s horrible there are so many nice Reels and not enough Money in the Bank Book… If I had 130 bucks for ONE Reel I would get the Tatula simply because I’m a Bank Fisherman and I need a bit more distance sometimes. Awesome vid as always bro, just wanted to add to your comment about the trailer on a spinner bait, just so people have it in their minds it will actually cause your bait to run shallower with most soft plastics. It seems like it would make it sink and fish deeper but this is actually incorrect. So if you wanna fish it slower/shallow throw a trailer on it. Also team Shimano 🤘🎣🤘

Shimano either stopped or just doesn't ship oil with the new SLX DC XT from Japan. Just got mine a few days ago and was disappointed to see that

Wait till you check out the Daiwa Zillion SV TW. I like it more than my metanium.

The spool tension is set from factory, hence why it’s in such a crap spot so u don’t play with it 😂. But yeah I was a huge shimano fan until i bought a curado . Bought one of these and now almost everything is getting replaced by diawa lol

I actually just got my first Shimano (Curado 200 hg) as a Christmas present. So far it is really good at full casts. It casts far and reels very smooth. It is not good at intermediate to short casts. It is very loose for the first 20 yards or so and is prone to backlash or at very least need line adjusting at the reel. If you make a full cast, it will get past that looseness and tighten up. Unfortunately I am usually target fishing and not making full casts and so I will have to say this reel is very disappointing. It might make a good deep cranking reel where I am always casting as far as I can, but I rarely do that kind of fishing.

Just out of curiosity, Justin.... (I picked up two of these, btw), was there anything special to spooling these up with this t-wing system they have going on?

Even shimano doesn't give oil these days. Bought a curado dc 200xg a couple months ago and got a note saying they won't include oil in their boxes anymore.

I just did a 2022 Bantam unboxing a couple videos back and it came with oil. But either way it’s gonna be okay, since I have about 87 bottles of their oil from previous purchases.

I have a lot of Diawa Zillions and Tatulas and they are great, but they are not a Curado, Bantum, or Metanium

Reel brands are mostly down to personal preference, style and your “pedigree” as an angler…meaning what you were raised on. For example, I’ve been using shimanos since I was a little kid in the 90s…before that, my first baitcaster was an abu ambassador that was missing its spool tension cap and “brakes” meant nothing to me. As a consequence, free wheeling reels with simple braking feel “right” to me. I use my thumb by default and really never learned how to cast any other way. So my entire stable is filled with aldebarans, metaniums and jdm curado 70 variants (the engetsu 100 is possibly the most badass reel you could ever use for bass fishing). On the flip side, if you grew up using magnetic brakes, if you don’t use leader knots and like reels that you can put to work, there’s a chance that Daiwa is gonna be more up your alley. There are a few things that either brand is going to do objectively “better”. Shimanos are going to blast off into outer space easier and Daiwas are going to be better for “close quarters combat” where you’re pitching 20 feet back underneath docks. You can easily get either brand to do both of those things but the engineering of each lends itself better to one or the other from a purely objective standpoint.

I’ve got this reel, how do you adjust it do you need a Daiwa tool for it ?

Just recently subscribed to your channel and watching your vids. It’s crazy how similar our taste in tackle and equipment are. I’m also a Shimano guy and picked up the same reel this year. My only Daiwa reel. I paired it with their Daiwa frog rod and I slammed the bass. I like the Shimano grips better but overall I agree it’s a great reel at that price.

I use to be a shimano or nothing type guy until I tried a zillion and steez, the backlash break blows the shimano away now all I fish is Daiwa.
