I find myself wondering what path Yamaha would have taken if they would have stuck with two-stroke technology. Yamaha hasn't been a player in so long. Anyone surprised obviously drinks only Yamalube.? Prove me wrong list their big releases the past decade that were awesome and people actually liked.
I don't think it matters what they did. They would have always led to a path that priced themselves out of market. It wasn't the product's fault. There was simply no demand at the price they were asking. I always had Yamaha. The last one I bought was 2006, and they were always priced within a range that made them competitive in the market. When I looked to replace my sled again in 2022 I was sure I was going to pick Yamaha. At that point, they were priced way out to lunch. Around 5k more than the competition from Polaris and Ski-doo. At least in Canada anyway. The thing was, I was at a point financially where a sled could have cost anything and I would have bought it. But you don't stay wealthy by needlessly wasting it where it's totally unjustified. I bought and own my very first Ski-doo. It's sad that Yamaha marketing team sank the ship. I find their product to be only slightly superior these days since the competition mostly caught up, and it just wasn't 5 grand more superior anymore. Not even close.
Don't forget service and customer service amongst dealers and their shoddy practices of late. I'm also from Canada and I think most folks dont realize what's happening in the world economy. That said, Yamaha is offering a 2.99% finance rate plus an additional .50 if your a existing owner. Wont see nothing but 8.99% - 11.99% with the others who use the big banks. @@shperax
Such a shame to see them bring back the legendary SRX, only to drop the entire line several years later. They better not drop their sport quads after this!
We are living in sad times 🙁. My first sled was a 77 yamaha 440 and I still have a 700 triple in the shed. I'd like to hope that can mean more focus on their atv machines but I still wish yamaha made new sleds.
I am not selling mine. Can’t beat them they just keep going. I will be buying another 4 stroke cruiser for sure! Love them on the trails. In Michigan that is the best you got.
The first sled I bought as an adult was a 1988 Exciter, and I loved that sled. I finally got rid of it 2 years ago. My daughter and I have been searching for some older Mountain Max 700s or SRX Mountains. They made the best triple 2 stroke out there. They should have kept that going while introducing their 4 strokes. The all or nothing approach rarely works. Cat is learning that with the Alpha. I agree that if the would have made the new YamaCat Mountain Max a twin rail, they could have potentially made a go of it.
I just picked up in march a 2023 sidewinder xtx-se and my father has a 2020 sidewinder gt and we both agreed that we’ll be picking up some 2025 and hope they last forever
I have a twincharged apex and its the best sled I have ever built. That said Yamaha refused to listen to its base, so many changes could be made but they marched to their own beat which unfortunately means they are marching right out of the door. RIP Yammie
3:14 This hurts my feelings. My first adult sled, even though I was only 6, or 7, was a 79 300 enticer, then got dad's 84 phazer, then me buying a 98 new mountain SRX, then new 2000 mountain max, then switched to the M series.
I went up to Castlegar in 08, and rode with Dan ( Krazy Canadian) in deep Feb. Snow, in the Norns, and still one of my favorite trips. Him and I left my buddy, and his girlfriends mom's boyfriend, on top a ridge, said we'll be right back. We were gone playing for like 2 hours, my buddy was not pleased with me, but there was no way they were making it. 😂
Got a 23' max sl plan to keep another 3-4 seasons. Maybe longer if i dont like any of the colors for the 858s. I really like the alpha. I haven't had issues with it but always on the back of my mind. Also a nytro xtx i plan to keep for as long as i can.
As a flatlander. I love the four stroke. They pull so hard. That torque is amazing. Going to miss it. I am pissed at Yamaha for doing this. Will never buy a sxs or atv or anything from them again. They should just close up shop.
My dad bougth a 98 yamaha vmax xtc triple 700 brand new then my brother and i got one when we were 15 mines a 97 vmax sx 700 triple and my brothers is a 97 vmax xtc 700 triple . Reliable and quick take good care of them. Im actually looking at a newer 2015 yamaha sr viper without the turbo and the shorter track havent made my decisin yet but reallt want it. I also bought a 2023 linhai 550 L quad its a off brand of yamaha so far its been good i was told yamaha has gone crazy there making these off brand quads and side by sides in the us and assembling them in texas. Think they own linhai and massimo for sure and i think cforce or cf moto .
This is good news for all yamaha riders. They actually get to ride better despite which another brand they choose. They'll be amazed that snowmobiles can actually turn and handle.
I just bought my first ever snowmobile and it’s a Yamaha. So sad such a great reliable company decided to quit making snowmobiles. I have street motorcycles, dirt bikes, a bass guitar, a drum set, violin teaching books all from Yamaha and all amazing stuff!!! It’s like they don’t know how to make bad stuff. Seriously one of the best companies in the world and it is a huge loss to the snowmobiling world!
Smart business move. CAT has put the 7000 back in their line up. Yamaha will make the engines and make more money there than selling a complete sled. I have two 7000's for trail riding. I also have a two stroke doo which is much lighter but I prefer my 7000 sno pro. There is a good market for 4 stroke so best to have CAT make them. Polaris believes there is a market obviously since they re-launched their own four stroke technology. Also consider that seasons seem to be screwy over the last number of years - I wonder if the market is shrinking?
Been riding tuned Sidewinders the last few years, had a blast as they outclimb anything. However, buying a new sled with just a new colour scheme is a bit rich. The SW engine in a BRP would be great, but will not happen.
I've owned Yamaha my entire riding era. I own a tuned SideWinder which I built to be the Ultimate Quebec touring sled. It certainly is but then we switched to backcountry and mountain riding out west. Yamaha has been "out of the sled biz" for a couple of years now. No big deal to me.
It sucks. I rode lots of Yamahas in the 80s and 90s and had lots of fun. I have one thought in the back of my mind…. Is Yamaha exiting in 2025 because they already know the timeframe that Textron plans on shutting down Arctic Cat? It certainly seems as though Textron is desperately trying to ruin the cat brand.
Yeah with the new cat chassis and trying what seems to get to 1 chassis base wording if there still going to use Yamaha engines even for much longer when old chassis goes away.
For the customer this sucks because industry competition is great because manufacturers are constantly trying to make a better now we really only have 3 choices i think pickings are getting a bit slim thats just me though!
It's hard to compete when Polaris and doo keep going at it faster than Yamaha wants to keep up and poor arctic cat is just the odd ball in the corner "hi guys" 👋 😂
I'm really surprised about this i thought Yamaha have fasted sleds out there like drag racing with their 4-stroke motors. not really Yamaha fan I use to like Yamaha when Yamaha was selling 2-stroke sleds. maybe Yamaha sleds sales or down. wonder what Arctic Cat going do about their 4-stroke sleds I think Arctic Cat use Yamaha motors.
Last time Yamaha was cool was with the SRX 700 in the late 90's after that it all went downhill, and being the number one quality brand team up with the worst fit and finish company (Arctic-Cat) was for sure the start of the end, and here we are today. (Gone)
Yamaha was one of those companies that benefited from everyone else making unreliable sleds, they came in and made sure their sleds held up, and they were allways at the top when it came to reliability but now we don't really have those kinda problems with sleds anymore (except maybe if you ride a polaris) so their advantage just slowly got smaller and smaller and for all the praise they should get for making snowmobiles actually hold up they should also be held to the same standards as everyone else in all the other departments, and what became clear in the late 2000s was that yamaha just couldn't make a chassis good enough to compete with everyone else I love yamaha, definitelly still looking to buy a sidewinder when the prices go down, but i can't say i didn't see this coming, although i had actually bet that arctic cat was gonna pull out first but, oh well, yamaha's are just arctic cats anyways
not a polaris fan anything but what are you talking about polaris make one of best snowmobiles, SXS,4-wheelers out there. most time it come down to polaris or CamAm/Skidoo what most people are riding today. polaris have one of best sleds and one of best SXS and 4-wheelers . i can see Yamaha stop making SXS soon to wait and watch. I do like Yamaha YXZ1000R but Yamaha should make it with a turbo right out from showroom floor.
@@funtyes1970 well im certainly not disagreeing with you, but i was strictly talking about reliability, and fact is, polaris has the least "reliable" sleds out there, i mean they're not really bad anymore, i was just making a joke but still, they're definitelly the worst
They have priced themselves out of the market for years now. When Yamaha came to the market with a 4 stroke snowmobile, they covered a niche in the market worthy of a bigger price tag. You could now sled your way past 30,000 km with no engine teardowns for top or bottom ends like on 2 strokes. They are extremely dependable compared to 2 stokes and were the perfect trail sleds for those that put on heavy miles. These days, everyone has a 4 stroke sled. They are not special anymore, yet Yamaha keeps their insane high prices despite heavy competition. 2024's are no different. The cheapest adult sled they sell is 21k and go up to 27k before tax. No wonder they are giving up.
what I think hurt Yamaha was when Yamaha stop making 2-stroke sleds. I think most people like 2 stroke over 4-stroke especially mountain riding. I just think it weird Yamaha is only snowmobile company out there don't sell 2-stroke anymore and not going to sell snowmobiles anymore. I don't know why Yamaha stop making 2-stroke sleds.
what i think what killed Yamaha was when they stop making 2-stroke sleds I don't know why Yamaha couldn't make both sleds 2-stroke and 4-stroke , Arctic Cat,Ski-Doo,Polaris sell both motors . to me Yamaha snowmobiles sound like to much like a Yamaha motorcycle. probably what it is, a Yamaha motorcycle motor in a snowmobile
Just no money to be made even if they invested 10 years ago the market has shrunk and have to have a ton of new buyers getting into the sport yes we all knew it was coming hopefully Cat dose well with the new chassis because whats left of the market share is Doo and Poo and the sport needs to grow if its going to be a 3 way fight
Yamaha killed itself by not innovating and selling the same old heavy sled for decades while Polaris and Skidoo innovated on there chassis and then took what little market yamaha had. Its too bad that they didn't want to produce a competitive 2 stroke in a all new yamaha chassis because it would have sold like hot cakes, just like the SRX did when it came out in 98.
This is whats happening when the majority of people don't support other brands people are afraid to Excel. sone we will only have 3 snowmobile brands left from 5 . Remember choice is freedom try diffrent brands and show some support. Or the world of only 3 snowmobile brands will be realized.
I believe this sport has gotten commercialized by yuppies and those that can afford the average 15 thousand dollar sled. After the dealers screw you on fees like assembly. all they do is put the skis on and raise the handle bars. shouldnt cost 3 to 5 hundred bucks to do that. I have been riding for over 25 years. I do wish yamaha still made their 2 strokes but you cant blame them for perfecting the 4 stroke in sleds. And at the time it was about fuel efficiency and reliability so when they came out with the 4 stroke motor in their sleds it was a time when government was all about emissions. These days with how covid got people to buy anything in the outdoor industry because they couldnt go socialize in public you have all of these novice riders that think they are the only ones on the trail when im sure i got more miles pulling my sled off the trailer than they have going forwards on the trail. Back when reverse on a sled was an extra add on if you wanted to pay for it. Sleds with less than 10 inches of travel. And sleds that didnt have GPS electronical BS and the common guy could work on. back when you had to pull a sled over instead of electric start. If you cant pull a sled over now a days then you shouldnt be riding one. Snowmobiles are getting like cars now a days where you have to take them to the dealer to get worked on because its all computerized junk. Lets mix more electrical with snow that melts to water. thats real intelligent... Not! Spark plugs costing 40 to 60 dollars when they used to cost 4 or 6 dollars. parts in general costing too much. Its unreal. And to be honest i own a Yamaha grizzly atv and by far it is the best atv on the trails. You will never beat Yamaha's reliability. From home goods to musical instruments to the outdoor industry, I would back yamaha any day. If they made a vehicle I would buy it. So sad to hear that they are getting out of the sled market. Watching nathan titus, carl schubitzki and chris vincent dominate with Yamaha in the late 90's was great racing too. Going to miss seeing blue on the trails. You know what Yamaha stands for... You And Me Are Haulin Ass! Ride safe everyone!
I know what I find really funny you ride a cat you're devoted to cat and you're wearing a doo shirt man I think it's time you switch to the doo lol lol
That's funny, skidoo is expensive or even worst then yamaha, with yamaha at least you'll get your money's worth with non or turbo sleds, skidoo or polaris (I like polaris) well never see the horse power what yamaha made, that's my opinion but my opinion don't matter
why would anyone by a yamaha sled now a days when they can just go buy a Cat. Yamaha used to be about reliability and being the Cadillac of the trail, once Cat took over building their chassis, that was thrown to the wind. no way are yamascraps dependable anymore, theyre just bloated trail sleds with a shit rear skid and crappy skis, if you want a turbo trail sled, just go buy a Doo, you'll be happier with it in every way
I still am not a fan of snowmobiling anymore and I still dislike them snowmobiles, I do not like them snowmobiles, at all anymore. PS! I believe those snowmobiles are not safe and they are dangerous also. A lot of people were injured and killed on them snowmbiles, over the years.
