Great video and easy to follow. I was thinking of making my first loaf, spelt, in a bread machine after watching your video I think I might try baking it in the oven. 😃👍🏻

Been on a mission this year I guess to find quick loaf recipes. I made something similar to this earlier this year but it made little rolls. Sandwich sized rolls. I proofed for 15mins and after the first 25mins, had to stick it back in the oven. Not quite done baking. But needed to be to work in like 2.5hrs from looking at the recipe, so I needed something quick! Been using buttermilk in recipes a lot recently... but almost out of both milk and buttermilk... this is perfect for all my needs today! For those asking, I used a 9x5 stoneware tin, wholemeal spelt. Mine fell a little at the top... maybe I jiggled it a little too much moving it from proof spot to oven. I goofed and forgot to set my oven appropriately b/c my temp is off. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So... the lower oven temp might have allowed it to deflate a little. And it is taking longer to bake, of course. Might have to take it with me to slice! 😬 But it looks and smells delicious! 💚🍞 Thanks Jo!

Thank you Jo. I'm a newbie to bread making and am suffering the disappointment of bread that hasn't risen as it should. I haven't seen that brand of flour in my locality so will research it

It’s so simple isn’t it, it freezes well too. You can add chilli and olives to it - makes a great savoury loaf. You’re welcome ☺️

I use my oven, with the light on, cover the bowl with cling film and a kitchen towel, in the oven perfect for proofing

I missed the temp of the baking oven????? Time. how long? This is fantastic. So quick so simple. PLEASE I must have the oven temp ?????? Thank You. Aria

Oven temp is 180 degrees centigrade and I normally bake it for around 25 minutes 😊

I had the same dilemma... but for 500g of flour, that should fit nicely into a 9x5 pan. That's what I used, and it seems to fill out nicely. I think for that amount of yeast, you could use any large pan you want. The yeast will make it fit.

Hi Jo. Really keen to try this recipe with wholewheat spelt flour. I have a fan oven, what temperature should I use please?

With thermo fan ovens you keep the temperature the same....only the cooking time is a bit shorter; ie: in stead of 25 minutes you'll have to bake it for 15 to 20 minutes. Your oven should have a user's manual. The answer should be there.

What s the temp to bake? 350 degrees.

Marie Pico yes, we do Celsius which would be 180, so 350 Fahrenheit 😊

I use 1/2 tsp of yeast for overnight rising for a no-knead recipe. I am just curious..with 14 grams of yeast, does it not taste super-yeasty?

No, not at all. It’s a quick rise. The spelt is lovely and nutty too. Delicious with savoury and sweet. 😊

Will this work if you leave it on the counter overnight to proof and bake it i the morning as opposed to using a warm oven?

Hi Galina, I don’t think it will I’m afraid. The dried yeast is active so it rises quite quickly. If you don’t want to prove it in an oven it will still rise on the counter but will take longer all depending on how warm the room is. I have put it on a radiator before and in the sun and it’s worked however overnight is too long and it will deflate. Hope this has helped

3 tablespoons olive oil Salt 400ml warm water 500g spelt flour 2 sachets dried yeast (they’re 7g each sachet) Add all together in the order above and mix with a wooden spoon. Spoon into a greased loaf tin, allow to rise in a warm oven and then bake for 25 minutes in a 180 degree C oven

You have to have yeast. It has to rise.

@@carltonwillams3962 I don't know and I don't know what country you are in. I don't think the brand matters. Ask around near you. I've used store brand as much as a big name brand. Just make sure it is instant yeast. Jo told all about her yeast in the video.
