Interesting idea! I’ve been drinking Trader Joe’s instant when backpacking & I brew in a percolator when car or trailer camping. I bet the serious coffee aficionados will be spreading this on toast like Vegemite… Great hat, too. I recently got a green Tilley LTM6 & love it!
What a unique idea this is. I do take my coffee black with one sugar so this would be a decent option for me. I also wouldn't have to take my pour over device, filter, coffee and sugar so would save me a few items that I carry into the woods with me. Looks like No Normal Coffee has a pretty neat product there Mark. Thank you for sharing.
HI Mark. I can imagine that if a company made an instant coffee that nearly replicated fresh brewed at a reasonable price point they'd have struck gold. As a former fussy coffee drinker, there's nothing like a good strong brew of fresh coffee. I'm sure this has it's place and time, however, much like jarred garlic!
I’d definitely be willing to give this a try. As for a coffee I always take with me. Give cafe bustelo instant a try if you haven’t already. It’s the only instant I find palatable at all. They sell it it single serve packets online. But back to this product, it seems very versatile with a lot of ways to enjoy it. I’m definitely going to try a tube. Thanks for sharing Mark! It’s always a pleasure to stop by your channel and see you enjoying the wilderness.
I would definitely like to try it but would have to wait until they have a Canadian supplier. I wouldn't think of buying a bunch of anything to get free shipping unless I have tasted it and enjoyed it. Very interesting though, would love to see one with the beet sugar and some sort of natural creamer or even the creamer in a separate tube! I really like the idea of tubed products for camping, wish a lot of products came packaged that way as long as the tube can be recycled. :) Thanks for sharing Mark! :) :)
Fair enough. I would order more except for the sweet taste. It would have been a disappointment had I bough bunch just to save shipping. Thanks for commenting Jackie
A very interesting sounding product and I can see how this type of coffee option would be of much value to many people. For me personally though, the process of making coffee or the coffee making ritual is part of the appeal of coffee in the first place. I enjoy the process enough that I grind my beans by hand on location just before brewing. I choose the particular coffee beans that I am using, based on flavor that I enjoy. So it would be hard for me to use a product like this but I do see the potential appeal for many coffee drinkers. ☕☕ As always, great product review video.
Hi Lonnie. I agree with your philosophy on taking time to make coffee. Since I am not an ultralight hiker or in any kind of a rush, I enjoy the whole process of making a good cup of coffee in the woods. It may take longer and the kit may be heavier but it is worth it to me. Funny how I find myself on a mission to convince people that coffee can be more than just something to wake up with. This video aside. Thanks for commenting and always good to hear from you
Thank you for the review, Sir. However, carrying crystallized instant coffees in a zip lock bag or a small container would be lighter. And, carrying beans, a grinder, a coffee press or percolator, etc., would be heavier. The cost might be an issue, as well as access to it. It all depends on up to what level you take your coffee to. I do not drink coffee, most times, for the flavor....I drink it for the caffeine. I can also add instant coffee to my protein shakes, regardless of flavor of protein powder or shake, to change the flavor, and add a spark of energy from the caffeine. Thank you for the review of this product. Keep up the great work !!!
I agree....it is a personal ritual , to make a good cuppa koffee. lol This coffee reminds me of NASA astronaut tube coffee...LOL In emergency mornings.....I love my 3 in 1 powdered coffee in the field. Questions : 1) how will it do in storage ? (ex: a Bug out bag for a year/ prepper pantry for a year ?) 2) How will it do in a hot environment (desert area?) 3) does the flavor diminish after a timeperiod ?
Mark, you always review the coolest products! Have you ever tried the Starbucks Via instant pouches? They are my favorites (although I don't like Starbucks in general). Be interesting if you compared the two as many folks have tried the Via instant.
I have Starbucks VIA pouches in my food bag all the time. I am not a fan of instant coffee but the VIA are about the best I have tried. I am planning another instant coffee video to compare against a few more new options. Thanks for commenting
Excellent review. This might be the best instant coffee idea I've seen. If the company offers a non sweetened dark road they'll take over the instant coffee world.
Have you tried the "hybrid" instant blends (ones with beans ground into them) such as Kenco Millicano, Nescafe Azera, Costa Premium, etc.? Nowhere near as nice as fresh, but much better than standard freeze-dried instant.
Not aware of those brands, other than Nescafe. I know that Starbucks VIA mixes micro-ground coffee in their product and it is one the better instants. Thanks for commenting
Thank you for the review, Mark. It's an interesting idea, but so much more expensive than regular instant coffee, including varieties with microground beans in individual serving tubes. You might want to compare this with some of those varieties. They have the benefit of no added sugar.
G'day Mark, well thats different. A good idea if you're out and about without anything more substantial. With ya though; unsweatened black for me ; ) I reckon a different container would be better. i.e. crushproof for pack/bag carry. Also, I wonder what the shelf life is ..... opened and unopened ? Cheers Duke.
Hey Duke. It supposedly does not need refrigeration. My tube lasted about 2 months (only used it a bit at a time) and remained good. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Ok, so I guess one could decant it, (I'm think'n a flat round screw top tin with a seal). At least something wide enough to take a spoon.
I wonder if this is made in the same way as traditional Korean/ Japanese coffee paste... You basically puree white beans ( typically cannelloni or butter beans) and mix it with either coffee extract or instant coffee.
I have never found an instant coffee, even some of the good name brands, that tasted good at all. This is some astronaut level stuff here but still not sure of the taste for the money.
LOL...what is this "too much coffee" you talk about? My backup is as much in case I forget to take real coffee (not likely) or I meet up with someone and want to be able to offer a cup. Thanks for commenting Jim
I have an idea...🥴 pretend this is toothpaste and brush your teeth with it. That's one way to have your coffee......sorry. This is an interesting way to carry coffee with you. I'll check it out. ✌️🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️
