the "toxic fans" thing is kinda tired. I am not a fan of blackpink either. I don't like their music, but I agree they get a lot of shitty hate. that being said, as an army and an orbit, I am used to seeing people use "this thing sucks because toxic fans" reasoning. and it's so funny. because there will always be shitty people who like the stuff you like. there is this theory on fandom culture called the "1% theory" or "1% rule" which states that for every fandom, 1% of it consists of shitty people with horrible personalities, and the visibility of this group is proportional to the size of their fandom, or their visibility. the bigger or the more visible the fandom, the louder the 1% shitty people are. anyway, my theory is if your reasoning why you don't like something or something sucks is the fandom, and you insist on that, and say "nobody will check out your group/this thing you like because the fandom is toxic"/"I unstanned because toxic fans" then you probably were never interested on that thing in the first place, or you never really stanned them at all. in which case, just probably curate your sns. mute/block the fandom in your space and go on in your way. or state "do not follow me if you stan/tweet about ____" in your carrd, so you don't have them in your spaces. it's unfair to inhibit fans from continuing to stan their groups/tell them to leave the fandom, because there will always be someone who will find appeal on those types of things. and chances are, many of those in the fandom accept that there are problematic people in their space, and yet continue to be in the fandom in spite of them, because there's a lot they like about the group/media. for non-kpop examples, I was not a big fan of homestuck and undertale, simply because I didn't like the game's/webcomic's aesthetic and character designs. and their respective fandoms were huge messes. and the fact that I have zero interest in it just magnifies the horrible actions of the horrible people in those fandom spaces. and yet, I don't hold anything against these fandoms, because I can see why these pieces of media appeal to those groups a lot. similarly for kpop, my experience as an army has led me to be wary of people who stan sm boy groups, and yet I don't hold anything against their bias groups. I can see the appeal of sm boy groups and why people like them so much, even though I feel uncomfortable being in the same space as exo-l's/nctzens/elfs/multis who ult sm bgs. and I definitely don't think that their act of stanning such groups is reflective of their person (unless there is proof that they are total messes and are very problematic). but I guess, as a whole, yeah, "unstanning" videos are dumb and stupid. because frankly nobody cares, and I have seen some of the videos these people have done, that isn't talking about "unstanning bp" or negativity surrounding bp, and some of them do make good content and I wished they didn't have to do those unstan videos. because they really are inhibiting other audience who wants to see good content in kpop youtube, but don't want to associate with someone who makes negative videos surrounding their group. I mean, it's not that you can't unstan for non-problematic reasons. just do it quietly. or if you blew up from fan content surrounding that group, maybe make a short message saying "hey I won't be using this account anymore/won't be making content for this group anymore because of personal reasons. but please know I don't have any ill feelings towards the group. you may unfollow/unsuscribe from me I don't mind. thank you". but it never warrants a whole fucking video.

The only reasons I see that are (in my opinion) valid to unstan Blackpink are: - Not liking their concept/music anymore (BUT THAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE. DO NOT PUSH ONTO OTHER PEOPLE) - Their problems of cultural appropriation (is very valid, you can call BP out on that and also the BLINKS that support these actions just because they love Blackpink. After that month of promotion we barely hear about them anyways. This is literally everything. Honestly, I have no issue with people unstanning groups. That's how the entertainment industry works - artists/companies do their best to stay on top and grow their fanbase, but often lose fans along the way. If people unstan Blackpink because of YG not promoting, etc., it is up to YG to decide whether the amount of people unstanning because of that is enough to make them change what they're doing. about the first point, while your argument makes complete sense, i think the problem with a fandom being shite is that it tires people out. i dont think its invalid to stop caring for a group after repeated negative interactions relating to that group. i had to stop listening to two of my favorite podcasts for months bc the fandoms were insufferable. this had nothing to do with the podcasts' quality, in fact, after listening to them months later (after the fandom outrage died down) i fully enjoyed them. i also was able to interact with the fandom (that had died down) without it making me want to commit. im relating this experience to that of some kpop fans, bc im SURE this must have happened to some. also, when it comes to kpop, you cant just ask people to go full cold turkey with fandom because a huge part of being a "stan" is being IN the community. disliking B because of its association with A (negative) is a natural psychological process that cant be helped initially. so yeah im not disagreeing with you bc you focused on artist responsibility. i think my point refers to a different aspect of the issue

Why I like Blackpink? I was depressed (3-4 years ago) and I wanted to listen to music that will cheer me up. I didn't want to know the meaning or lyrics, I just wanted to enjoy the music. Blackpink music was the only one that made me feel good and seeing them made me feel that I have blackpink as friends and I am not so alone. They seemed kind and not fake. When they got so many hate but still shined , I thought "Yes, this is how I should be. Even though people around me hate me and I am lonely, I can still shine." I am trying to leave (or unstan) kpop (including blackpink and all other groups) but still I will be forever grateful to blackpink. I actually support YG, despite being a Blink. I believe there are many rumors going around, and many things Blinks blame YG for aren't even true. There's a lot of sensationalism in many of the arguments against YG, for example, the Jennie's favoritism scandal. I don't think such thing existed. They used as an example 1 performance in which Jennie wore a dif color outfit, so the other girls looked like back-dancers, and it looked real, right? But the next performance there was another song in which the girls all were wearing strong flamboyant colors and she was wearing brown, also mixing up with other back-dancers. 2nd that "Lisa is paid less than the other members" argument is absolutely sensationalized, taken from a statement that Sorn said when raising awareness about the Thai law on royalties, in which Thai idols can't help but get less money. She used Lisa's case as an example, and actually, she kind of praised YG - They sat down with Lisa, explained the law and that she'd be getting less money every month than the other girls, asked her to understand and don't get jealous and that they'd find a way to give her the same amount of money throught other means. Yet, this Sorn statement started circulating as "YG pays Lisa's less money". 3rd now, BP manager for around 10 years, that they all loved like a brother, that even the fans were grateful for his warmth for the girls, and then he scams Lisa, and it's YG's fault??? How would YG guess that someone who were loyal to them for 10 years would do that?? No one guessed, no one. And I think they even respected Lisa's wishes, because let's be honest, they are a corporation: They'd benefit if they sued him, but they didn't, and the only explenation I have is that Lisa really loved him as a family member and couldn't do that, even if he scammed her, so they settled it without the law. There's no way that was YG's doing. Yet, now it's YG's fault. And the list goes on and on regarding taking things out of context to make scandals. And scandals against YG's treatment to BP is the hottest trend, so there they are. Now, I don't think YG is perfect, and it is a fact their management sucks. I just don't think they are evil, just like Lee Hi said she doesn't "feel like a victim of the company". I believe it's the same for other idols under it. They treat them well, work well when they work, the problem is the pace, and I think they should really work on that

I finally got to watching this video, and out of curiosity decided to look up “unstanning blackpink” and oh my,, there are a L O T more videos of this than I thought. blackpink was what got me into kpop so I feel a special connection to the girls and I just feel kinda disappointed seeing all this because seeing all of this negativity/unnecessary stuff. if I saw those videos at the time of me getting into kpop, I definitely wouldn’t have gotten into it. I can imagine these kinds of videos on popular groups (like twice, bts, blackpink, etc), can turn a lot of people away from liking kpop since people tend to get into it bc of popular groups and I feel sad that it probably blocks people from enjoying idols, groups, and music Edit: holy crap I didn’t realize how much I wrote lmao

Personally, I’ve unstanned simply because their music and concept doesn’t appeal to me anymore and I believe blinks to be too toxic for my liking. I have watched both videos mentioned in the title and have a different take. They were by no means a hate video. Their main point was that supporting Blackpink essentially equals supporting YG and their bad behavior including how they continue to manage Blackpink. I thought those were valid points. As long as Blinks keep supporting Blackpink and continue buying their merch etc, they are supporting YG financially, and that YG is not going to change and keep doing what they are doing which is terrible. They were by no means a hate video like some people make it out to be. I would recommend watching both video in its entirety before jumping to conclusions.

anyways unstanning because of a fandom is valid. i stan and love blackpink but would never call myself a blink because the toxic part of blackpink isn’t even 1% it’s like 10% at this point. just a few weeks ago a random arianator lied and said twice was gonna collab with ariana because they wanted aripink and not selpink. blinks decided it was a free opportunity to hate on twice and call them untalented, nobodies, have no impact in music at all, and flops/fads. those tweets got hundreds of likes. a tweet on kcharts official was talking about an achievement blackpink accomplished and a blink called them queens. a random blink disguised as a once replied and said “are twice”. that tweet resulted in blinks attacking twice and calling them “fads” and “flops” and hating on them for having a more feminine/cute concept. a blink said more & more couldn’t reach billboard top 100 and called them a flop. the blink that was disguised as a once then responded and made it clear that they were a blink and then started to drag twice for no reason. mind you these tweets gained a high amount of likes. blinks need to stop acting like there isn’t a major toxicity problem within the fandom. every time a toxic blink is brought up they shut it down by saying “they’re solo stans”, “they’re blonks”, “they don’t represent the fandom”. y’all act like the toxic blinks don’t get hundreds of likes from hating on a group. just because twice isn’t as internationally known they’ve literally become blink’s punching bag for insults. it’s literally not okay at this point. literally everyday there’s a random blink slandering twice and receiving tons of support from so called “blinks”. a blink has even said they want to remain toxic and think there’s no reason to change because to them it’s “okay”. that tweet received a lot of likes as well. i had to take an extremely long break from blackpink last year because every time i’d listen to blackpink i wasn’t able to disassociate the toxic blinks from the music. for some people it’s hard to be a fan of a group when the group you stan has a large amount of toxic fans. stop invalidating the “i unstanned _________ because of the fandom” reason because it’s very valid.

I love Blackpink. Been with them literally since debut. Seen them live twice. Met them once as well. All that being said, any negative feelings I have towards them is never the members fault. Truth be told Blackpink is less a kpop group and more other things these days. They are fashion models. Make-up models, you name it. YG has them making money doing almost everything BUT being kpop idols. Yeah they have the recent album release, and the Show coming up but let's not forget the hugeeee hiatus's they always have. There's something inherantly wrong with a group that is actually working farrrr less than other groups, yet somehow is considered the greatest and most popular. That very notion is an insult to all the groups out there with equal or greater talent that are busting their asses 2 or 3 times a year with comebacks. Blackpink just drops a song or album every so often and it's instantly the greatest thing since sliced bread. But what is missing from them now is what they had in the beginning, the raw, unpolished drive and appreciation for the fans as well as for kpop as a genre itself. They're too big for all that now, they're superstars high up on a pedestal. And allll of these things I'm talking about are YGs fault, NOT the fault of the members. This is how I can claim the be a day 1 loyal blink, yet say all that I'm saying here. Blackpink used to be ripped on by netizens often as just being 'models' without true drive or talent. Well YG is to thank for that perception because that's mostly what YG has portrayed them to be, so when I hear about people not being as big of fans as they used to be of BP for some of the reasons I've mentioned here, I have to say to myself, they have a point. I'm gonna love them for better or worse until the end. I was there on day 1, and I will be there until the last day and beyond. But I can't blame some people for not feeling the same way. I can understand it.

I feel like the first of these videos were created in response to questions asked by a creators fans but then quickly spiraled out of control. Kind of like unpopular kpop opinions turned from people just sharing their opinions into people hating on groups and using the fact that it was their opinion as a shield.

So I stay off of kpop Twitter, I dont have a kpop insta, ect. And I'm doing just fine lol. You dont HAVE to engage with kpop fans online to be a fan of a group. I dont scroll down and read comments when I watch new music videos because I DON'T CARE. This is totally an option and it's silly to pretend its not. Edit: ntm, who you follow and interact with is a choice. If a blink you follow is toxic, unfollow them. Take responsibility for your choices of friendships. If you see someone being a toxic blink, click away. Dont engage. It's not hard to not engage

I never understood the reason why people needed to make a special announcement about why they unstanned a group... okay and? Just be honest that it’s a grab for attention and validation. Their reasonings are cop outs. Most of these videos come off as either jealous of the group (that feeling of “they’ve become too famous for me to feel ownership over them anymore” type of jealousy), jealous that their bias never got the same amount of spotlight as another member, or that they only liked Blackpink as a trend. But I never hear “Their inactivity makes me uninterested in them” or “I don’t see them growing musically.” But honestly, who cares? Unstan in silence.

In my opinion these are the valid reasons why someone would unstan a group/artist If I missed anything, tell me please - loss interest in the group/music - the members did something REALLY problematic, like an actual problematic thing and not just something stupid - constent TRUE controversial events happening within the group or outside (rumors shouldn't count because they are not proven)
