In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Silent. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Biggest problem with my silent runs is that even if I manage to reach the heart, I either don't have enough damage or that I don't have enough block. If I don't get enough footworks or a kunai then blocking is hard even with a malaise. Using wraith form with even with pellets I also find inadequate.

How do you get enough defense with Ironclad if you don't have Corruption? Imo getting enough defense with Silent should be easier than getting enough defense with Corruption-less Ironclad.

Dex AND weak is the way to go. I remember really underestimating how much damage weak takes off especially in the later acts when bosses hit hard. If you have vulnerable and you weak the boss, suddenly you’re taking like almost half the damage you were abt to take. Edit: wraith form is really good with heart if you have tungsten or after image. For damage, poison source w catalyst+, and/or some sort of consistent scaling like accuracy or phantasmal. Caltrops too if you are worried abt damage output. Thorns pot can help. Artifact to block the vuln debuff from heart really mitigates the big hit on the first cycle

@@aetbhieiilswell Ironclad has soo many ways to make block that don’t even need a corruption. Feel No Pain, Second Wind, you could also count Rage here. Otherwise he’s also got big block cards like Impervious and Power Through, maybe also Entrench. Then you get a barricade and that’s how you can block without Corruption. Corruption ofc is a great pairing with any of these cards, but it can sometimes be unnecessary depending on what cards you have and how much energy you can make.

@@aetbhieiilstbf ironclad can just tank his way to victory with enough hit points (thank you feed) and strength scaling. And/or reaper. Offense is the best defense or the saying goes.

I always thought storm of steel sucked. But I got it from a transform start. Then got a floor 1 accuracy cuz everything else sucked. I didn't get a single shiv card until act 3 but it somehow beat heart on a12.

I think the synergy between Storm of Steel and Reflex is really underrated. Makes Storm of Steel become a pseudo calculated gamble that deals big damage.

The thing with silent is a lot of her good cards don’t go great with snecko. But at the same time, all of her card draw and things like prepared, dash, sneaky strike are all great with it

@@ogolthorp She has a few nice cards that go badly with Snecko. On the other hand: Sneaky Strike, Eviscerate, Gamble, Storm of Steel, Nightmare, and Flechettes all have really good interactions. And then she has plenty of desirable 2+ cost cards to disocunt. Leg Sweep, Dash, Crippling Cloud, Wraith Form, Envenom, Flask, etc.

Everytime I see Baalor's hand cluttered with overcosted cards I can't help but think "man, great snecko innit?" I know, I know... It balances out when on other turns you have a bunch of discounted cards. However for me, it doesn't offset the feel bads I get when it manages to screw me over at the most inopportune times. Playing cards for free sometimes doesn't make up for the fact that it can just end my run out of nowhere.

eviscerate keeps track of discarded cards while it's not in your hand, so if you discard 3 cards and then draw it, it's gonna be 0 cost what happens with the snecko eye. does the discount of already discarded card apply before or after the card gets in your hand? my guess is that it happens before and snecko just re-rolls it, but then any further discard will reduce the cost properly

5:20 I disagree with your take on Mayhem. Mayhem is better when you DO care about your deck order, not when you don’t. Mayhem can be incredibly powerful with scry decks or decks with other means of fixing the top card of your deck. It’s just gives you free stuff, and potentially very high cost free stuff with the proper setup. Granted, I only take it when I already have the necessary support, which doesn’t really exist in silent, unfortunately, so I understand you not liking it in this particular context. Mayhem, like a lot of cards in Spire, has niche utility, and is best utilized as a card to give you high value cards for free. This can help you survive spike damage turns or play powerful pieces in your deck for free to further accelerate your gameplan. If you are relying on random chance to give you a good Mayhem target, then you are the one building your deck wrong. I’m a Magic player with a Yuriko top deck card fixing shenanigans deck, so when I saw Mayhem I knew what it could do.

I'm honestly not sure where I first saw Slay the Spire. I was also playing since pretty early in early access (since before defect existed, and I think corruption and dark embrace had their rarities switched). I'd guess it was Day[9]?

I do see its value in a high cost deck but snecko in this current deck was just a source of tons of unnecessary planning and frustration, definitely didn't worth to take it just to draw a couple of additional cards. I'm pretty sure in almost all fights the gameplay without snecko would've been much safer, faster and smoother. Man, I hate that relic.

Snecko is kinda cringe on silent cause she doesn't have the insane high impact expensive cards other characters do. It's always a gamble taking it tho on anyone and sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get boned

Considering he beat act 4 convincingly and completely steamrolled act 3, I would say the snecko pick worked out fine. Maybe choker would have been about as good, but I'm guessing kunai made Baalor want choker less.

I would counter with if meyhem is good in your deck and you are still winning, then youve created a strong deck capable of winning. Thats all that matters at the end if the run.

I don't play snecko eye very often on silent, but when I do I have struggled to find value in Well Laid Plans. Am I just bad? Like if a card is low cost, you want to play it. If it's high, you don't want to keep it.

Snecko was completely fine for the deck when it showed up. The deck had dash, crippling cloud, leg sweep and apo, plus krane and meat to help mitigate poor cost rolls. This was almost a good choker deck too but the kunai made choker much less attractive, and picking black star after act 1 basically only happens when the other boss relics suck.
