Salut! :D
Against the powerhouse of the American aviation industry, France, with regard to business jets, is a nation that prides itself on the products of its famous Dassault company, with the iconic Falcon jets being aircraft that are easily able to lock horns with the best products of Cessna, Gulfstream and Learjet for domination of this exclusive market segment.
However, not all of France's business jet ventures have gone to plan, as was the case with the often forgotten Aérospatiale SN 601 Corvette, a very early attempt to penetrate the American market both in competition with the domestic builders of the United States, but also its Gallic rivals from Dassault, the result being an abject commercial failure due to a protracted development, the crash of its prototype, and a general lack of understanding by the management as to what this aircraft was intending to achieve.

Every time I think I've seen all of the different business jets that have been built since the 1960s, and there are are scores of them, I find out about another that I didn't know existed but probably should have. Several times every decade since, someone decides that the world needs yet another small twin rear engined executive aircraft designed from scratch or resurrected from a previous failed project.

The lack of production capacity reminded me of a story about an American looking to buy a series of industrial tools from a French manufacturer. In the initial discussion things went well until the American asked for an estimated delivery date for the equipment. The French salesman replied "they'll be ready when they're ready." the American pointed out that he had to plan for their arrival so he could work out his production schedule for the parts his company was going to make with the tools but was met with the same answer. The French company did not get the contract.

There were so many different companies making jets back in the 60s and 70s. It's sad how industry consolidation has led to the state we're in now where you have 2 big corporations who are effectively too big to fail, leading to disastrous consequences.
@davidkavanagh189
@davidkavanagh189 26 дней назад
I wouldn't describe two incredibly successful aircraft manufacturers making thousands of safe efficient airliners as being 'disastrous consequences'. You should look up the amount of crashes that happened back in the day. People have no clue just how insanely safe airliner flying is today.

@@davidkavanagh189 And that's before we take apart the ludicrous statement about "2 big corporations". While true for long-haul airliners, Bombardier and Embraer would like a word in the short and regional haul, and I couldn't even list, off the top of my head, how many biz jet providers are happily existing in providing transport for the overpaid parasite class. 😆

@drstevenrey
@drstevenrey 24 дня назад
Add on: The Sud Oeust SO30 Bretagne was a very good looking aircraft powered by American engines delivering performance that was very respectable. But sales, oh deary me, that did not go well at all. 45 were built of a machine that should have sold in the ten thousands. That aircraft alone is a classic symbol that, no matter how good an airliner is, if you employ shaved monkeys to sell them, you will fail miserably and quickly.
@drstevenrey

Looked nice, but was totally lost in the market.
@drstevenrey
@drstevenrey 26 дней назад
Another issue: All French aircraft post war, no matter how good they ever were, did not sell far outside of France. Why: You have never ever met an arsehole before you met a French aircraft sales person. Just the worst ever. France built some seriously cool and pretty aircraft but were incapable to find any people who could sell the aircraft.

That's hilarious; I hear the same from stories about encounters with French Canadian Police in Quebec. Ed March from C90adventures does a hilarious impression during his cross-country riding trip through Quebec, after he and Rachel are harassed by a French Canadian policeman.

How can any guy with a pair of balls take Pink Floyd seriously? The squeaky voiced whispery singing, the cozy laid back songs, wimpy guitar, airy fairy lyrics and limp drumming. It sounds like they're singing lullabies. Groupies must have been really disappointed when they met those long haired English public school nancy boys
