Owning a eurorack system requires money, understanding a eurorack requires patience.

Creativity can come out of the most diverse of places - limitation is one of them! It's great you gave eurorack another try with a more focused and small system. It's easy to throw anything into a case and be overwhelmed, but to reduce and really design a coherent synth is a great joy to see. And the music is lovely!

Thank you!! Yeah, it's very easy to try and replicate the modular virtuosos on youtube and get lost in the process. You've got sooo many options even in just 62hp, so once you scale everything it risks, like you say, to overwhelm.

Excellent. Love this. I've had a modular rethink the last few months. Sold a lot of stuff that just wasn't fitting in or working out how I expected. Building up again now around an Intellijel Atlantix. Your small rig is hugely inspiring. Just goes to show that with the right modules and some understanding you can do some amazing stuff. You don't need a huge set-up. In fact, it's a hindrance when you are learning. Less is more.

That sounds very fun! Haven't tried the Atlantix but it's a lot already on its own, so it sounds like a perfect build-around. I like the idea of having a starting point, an anchor, and put together a rig around that. It makes it less abstract. Good luck!

@@FronasMusic Yes, that was exactly my thinking. A good starting point to get going with minimal patching. Then the patching will be more about expanding and experiment beyond the basic synth voice. I’m also interested in the Quadrax. Looks like a simple but powerful module. It’s on my Modular Grid, My Modules list 👍

I hadn't thought of that. Hmmm, now that you say it, maybe I should too... :)

Happy to see another Renoise user. I don't have Quadrax, but looking at the manual, I think I could do some of it with a pair of MI Peaks or a clone like uPeaks. Maybe I'll haul my Eurorack stuff out of the closet and try something, you've inspired me again!

Oh, I don't know if I should say "Wow, that's so cool to hear" or "I'm sorry", given the depths of the eurorack rabbit hole :D ... But that's so cool to hear, really! There's a dude who did Quadrax selfpatching videos where the module does everything (VCO, VCF, Env, Clock etc). They are really impressive. I haven't tried something like that yet, but I will: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e3EBoC-3G8o.html

Peaks sadly doesn’t have cv control you’d be more limited but I have one and I love it.

Great stuff! I experienced very much the same just recently. I had a big befaco 7u case full of modules and it was just overwhelming me. Then I took out some of my favorite modules and put it in a 4u palette (exactly your case!) and shelved the befaco 7u for the time being with the rest of the modules. Now I have fun again with eurorack. Ill use the system as I made it for a year before touching any of the other stuff again (atleast thats the plan).

Great to hear! A year is very ambitious, but can be a very efficient way, yeah! For me, after the summer I was itching to start connecting other modules after going deep with this one. Fun thing is, I almost always come back to the stuff that's in this case. I'm planning to move some of those that I don't use very much to this case and give them the same treatment. A great way to learn and be creative.

Yeah, the price tag is sinister. You need to accumulate over time so you lose track of how much you've put into it :) .. Tack!

Had plenty of ups and downs with modular. You nailed it here. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and dial in a new focus. So many fun things happen when you just play around and let the patching take the lead. Much like you said. Cheers to your journey!
@FronasMusic
@FronasMusic Месяц назад
And during the ups and downs, I could sometimes feel I must be the only one struggling because everyone else makes it sound so good, right? :D Yeah, step back and just experiment. That's valid for many things, but for modular very much so. Thanks for the comment!

Found your channel, subbed, saved your album on Spotty. Great video. Stoked to dive into your stuff! I’m also working on an album that is based around some captured modular sessions.

Awesome to hear! Thank you! Yeah, there's something special about captured modular sessions, isn't there? After doing this, I'm kinda thinking of doing this eurorack into ReNoise thing for the next album. We'll see!

First I can't tell what's in the system. How does it make sound? Second, it looks like you've put a contour 1 in there which confuses me because you started with the quadrax plus expander...

So what exactly did you use Quadrax for? I was hoping you’d speak to use-cases and illustrate them in patches a bit. What roles did it play?
@FronasMusic
@FronasMusic 28 дней назад
Ah, this is relevant feedback! I will be doing another Quadrax video shortly where I'll go more in-depth with it! This system is basically built to support the Quadrax, which does pretty much everything on it's own. It's an envelope generator at it's heart, so it handles envs and lfo:s, but lfo:s can go to audio rate so in this system it's also the oscillator. I also use it as a random source (vacillator lfo), clock (using end of fall-triggers) and I use it to modulate itself in all kinds of ways via the CV-inputs. But yeah, I should do a video with just the Quadrax.

How do you power your palette case outside?
@FronasMusic
@FronasMusic 28 дней назад
This was lo-tek, with two 50 meter extension cords :) It worked well, but I'm looking into solving a more mobile solution. From what I understand, you can power the palette case with stronger powerbanks for laptops. As long as they provide 12-20v and 3-5a. A dude in a discord uses the jump-starter battery pack that came with his car for the Palette, so it seems as it is versatile. We'll see what I can come up with!

How did you handle the FX?
@FronasMusic
@FronasMusic 10 дней назад
I had none. :) Obviously I added a kiss of delay and reverb to this video because it's easier on the ears, but the goal here was mainly to go deep with a small system and learn the modules. Rather than trying to make a "finished" sound. So I patched and recorded it dry and then extracted sounds from those sessions to make music with (i.e. adding fx in ReNoise/Logic, but it's very gentle fx (comp, del, rev) as I wanted the sounds in the video to be the real representation of the patches).

Great video, I was thinking of making a small system like this myself, would make a list of all the components you have chosen? (Would be great to have a video on that but maybe i’m asking too much 🤘😔)
@FronasMusic
@FronasMusic 29 дней назад
Thanks! Great feedback! I've updated the description with a list of the modules! It's a bit of a mix of stuff and may not seem very cohesive, but my aim was to only pick modules that I enjoy and that have been good to me. I have a few that I have high hopes for but that give me headache, and I didn't pick those :)
