No Sandwich in The World is That Important

I have sacrificed family time for sandwiches so many times in the past. But, In recent years, that mentality has changed. That’s helped shape me into the person I am today. I’d never make one of my employees choose subs over valuable family time because I know there is no sandwich worth more than that.
I love you all ❤️

Amen! My former employer wouldn’t let me take off 2 days to go to Ft Campbell KY. To see my oldest son get home from Afghanistan! He was a combat medic in the 101st Airborne. I was a supervisor, well I went anyway! Sooo glad I did. It was emotional for sure. Got back on Monday, they were gonna demote me!! I laid the keys to my free company truck down along with my name tag, told them where to stick it!! Next day I started my own company!! That was 2013.

Good for you!!!!!! Obviously your former employer was never in the military or had a close family member in either. Shame on them. This individual would not have what he has if it were not for all that have or are serving to PROTECT OUR COUNTRY

My father passed away a couple weeks ago. I didn't miss a minute of work because he would have been mad at me for using him as an excuse to be lazy. I didn't realize how toxic it was until I started typing this.

Oh wow I used to work for Jersey Mike’s and some of the Managers can be a bit insensitive but I’m glad you found a place for you where people are more understanding. Congratulations on 10 years I was only at my location for a year.

For me, a Jersey Mike's sub makes everything better. My local Jersey Mike's is like family to me because I have come to know all of them. When I had COVi-D, I was sick at home and my mom brought me a sub from Jersey Mike's and "Get Well Soon TJ" was written on it. I started crying.

Man you are amazing for telling the individual to take as much time as they need. Every single person grieves differently. The sad aspect on this matter is, most big industries you bereavement pay for so many days depending on the relationship with the lost loved one. And in my eyes, I think that it should be a law for ALL businesses and corporations to give you paid bereavement without any question or harassment. I know it has been a while since your Grandmothers passing, but SORRY for the loss. Hope you always have GREAT memories of her and smile.

Here's my story crazy SG. My grandfather passed. I went into work. Stone faced. Turned out that me not wanting to tell anyone wouldn't pass. The man who got me that job was also a pastor on Sundays. The same man was appointed to lead the procession at my grandfather's funeral. He took the time to call my boss and tell him about that passing. When I went into work J my boss says I'm sorry about your grandfather E. I remember making that sound like you got punched and the wind is knocked from you. Crying I says to him ya know I came to work today thinking it'd get my mind off things. He made sure to tell every employee I worked with that night, hey, E is going to need some patience from all you guys tonight. Chuuuch

I worked for a horrible Franchisee for Jersey Mike's. I was a hired to be an assistant manager and worked there for about a month and I got really sick. I had a fever of 104.2 and actually was hospitalized and missed about a week. When I came back they fired me and said call offs was not allowed in my probation period.

Most businesses these days are run trying to minimize costs to the last nickel, particularly labor. But a well run business will have some grease in extra resources so if a manager goes down and they have a big order, they can flex and manage.

Knowing me I would have told them to f*** themselves and I would have not gone in but you know I understand that you needed the job at the time and you know you were very strong for hanging in there for that shift but honestly they should have just gave you a couple days man you know cuz losing your grandmother is like losing the extension of your mother or father's mother you know and that's like almost like a parent as well too.

I've always viewed it that *you are doing your employer a favor by telling them in advance that you won't be in* nothing else should be expected. You aren't a slave. It isn't a "request" for time off. Take the time off that you feel that you need.

I didn’t leave work when my dad passed away. Why? Because he will be just as dead after my shift as he was right then. Unless you can CHANGE the situation or there is a child that needs cared for that’s without supervision there’s not any reason to leave work.

We have all had grandparents pass away. Yes, it does suck. But if it causes you to break down at work and seriously cry for multiple days in a row then I agree with the managers that you need to get yourself together.
