I don't have a sewing machine, but wanted to make this fleece door draft sock so I used HEAT and BOND to iron the fabric together. I had previously done a nylon one, but the area was too high of traffic to avoid snags and runs opening and closing the door often. If your concerned about moisture you can always microwave your sock for a couple minutes to make sure its dry and sanitary. NOTE: I have never used this product before I did this project today! SO EASY!!

There are three parts to my door snakes, because I do not want the filling to get wet. I also do not want my door snakes to burst, imagine beans and rice all over your floor. The inside snake is one leg of panty hose, stuffed with beans or rice then tied in a knot. Or I could use a light fabric for that inside snake. I then place this snake into a garbage bag and roll it up, securing the open end with duct tape. To be on the safer side, I will wrap this plastic snake with duct tape every six inches or so. Then I sew the outside of the snake and insert my plastic-wrapped snake into it. For fun, I sew eyes at one end, and a red tongue, so it really becomes a "door snake". The family loves these door draft stoppers, and they have lasted for many years. Sometimes I will pull the seams off one end to wash the snake if he gets too soiled. It is like having a pillow case on a pillow, same concept.

Btw, it does not have to be dry foods that we stuff our door snakes with. We can use gravel, walnut bits from a pet store or maybe even aquarium supplies from a pet store, we can use small marbles, big necklace beads, etc. I buy bags of beads from second-hand stores for maybe $3 per bag, and it will take two bags of beads to fill one of my door snakes.

Oh, and string the beads with fishing line, the same length as you want the snake, then tie the ends together at both ends. That way if for some reason your snake gets damaged, you will not have beads all over your floor.

should have kept it inside the tights and knotted one end and inserted the filled tight into your sausage/sock.. it would help prevent and leakage when that no sew tape comes apart

What else can you stuff it with. I think it's a shame to fill it with rice when some people in certain parts of the world are starving?

I am going to use socks and an old jumper( cut up of course) you can try these or anything similar. I wouldn't recommend thin materials. :)

Plastic bags, very good insulator. Old nylons...hose whatever you wanna call em. Old shoe laces, scraps of yarn you couldn't use if you knit or Crochet. Maybe a few rocks for weight here an there?

Rice is a pretty good filling as it gives that bit of weight you need to keep the draft stopper in place. It is also inexpensive. I get your point on the hungry, but the rice for sale in the grocery store is not going to those places.

Sand or kitty litter, even fish tank gravel can be used. Also you can use two flannel scarfs from the dollar store instead of buying flannel by the yard.
