I was going to say there is no way he isn’t doing any cleaning. He gravels the sand, which is probably a big part of reefing. However it’s the one thing most reefers would like to avoid - but you have to get that detritus out of the tank. That’s really the big challenge it’s detritus

Love Danny's Aquariums. Great to see you make it over to his area and check it out! I am going to try and run a skimmer less/ mechanical filtration-less system for my next nano. HOW old is the Pagoda coral/cup coral? in the middle tank? I have been wanting to pick one up an been curious about its growth rate. I had those same plate coral and lost them. Hanging onto the skeleton and hoping for a miracle birthing of babies someday.

I have been reefing since 2011, and have always done this method with my nano tanks that don't have a lot of fish. Getting equipment that doesn't take away from the image tank is so hard when you don't have that much room to begin with. It is much simpler to do regular water changes until you get some real stability and then do maintenance as necessary. Cool to see him doing it big with 40G. This is awesome, the hobby has come so far. Inspires me to give it a go with a 40B or maybe a 75G

@noodles_GA
@noodles_GA 4 месяца назад
@@thatstonerr7738 for me it depends on the bio load. I’ve run tanks with just coral and inverts and have had great success with just a heater and powerhead near the surface tumbling the water. I also have a 6 gallon cube I am currently running with a pair of clowns and come coral and all it has is a heater and a Seachem tidal HOB with some filter floss, the tidal is a great HOB, good sized media compartment and it actually skims the surface of the water.

I noticed they didn’t show the dosing systems. This is equipment so I wish they would have shown the setup on the back of the tanks. That’s how it goes they look great they prosper for awhile then all it takes is one parameter spike to crash that entire system lol doesn’t have the correct amount of rock doesn’t have the correct amount of substrate the stability of this tank would be trash I’ve seen so many try this method then come back months later even years later saying they’re system crashed and they lost everything mainly due to not having that biological filtration/bacteria production that comes with deep substrates lol like come on guys this is silly

Did you hear the part on how old the tank is ? Are you saying Bio media is superior to live rock ?
@thatstonerr7738
@thatstonerr7738 4 месяца назад
@@fragboxcorals I misspoke there I’m saying that live rock will always be superior to just standard bio media but my point that I’m trying to drive here is that with substrates you house a vast majority of your biological life right so not just bacteria which is crucial to cycling but copepods bristle worms room for snails to burrow but most importantly the more substrate the better biological filter you will have outright in your tank I see a lot of folks throw a tank together with a few inches worth of substrate on the bottom that’s garbage I’d always reccomend atleast 6-8 inches of substrate potentially more considering the size of the tank some would say that way to much substrate but I promise the stability it will provide any system it’s undeniable and you can confirm yourself right just as anyone set yourself up a new 40g tank right throw in enough substrate to use up about 6-8 inches and then run 2lbs of rock per gallon so throw 80 pounds of rock in doubt you’d even need filtration on that tank at that point params will always be perfect Try deep substrates are king

@thatstonerr7738
@thatstonerr7738 4 месяца назад
@@DannysAquariums I mean don’t get me wrong my way is not absolute you almost seem triggered like I attacked you and that wasn’t my goal I was merely stating that having deeper substrates results in a larger biological filter within your tank without running a sump obviously a sump with gravel and shit tons of live rock would be the most ideal filtration but yes you are correct systems can run without substrates but you can hopefully acknowledge that yes that possible and can be done that stability of the tank can be affected via params like nitrite nitrate my argument is solely for stability of the ecosystem man I never stated to have all the info ever only anecdotal experience on my end and info from others in the hobby with many many more years of knowledge and experience than me 🤷‍♀️ good luck to ya man I hope you learn to take constructive criticism better in the future it will help out the hobby greatly take it easy
