Do you have NO SOUND in DaVinci Resolve 17? I was having this problem too and the fix is easy. I’ll show you the things you need to check to make sure audio is being output from DaVinci Resolve 17.

For anyone in the future who STILL isn't getting sound, this worked for me: (keep Resolve open in the background) On Windows 11: 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Sound'> scroll down to 'Volume Mixer'> under Apps, next to the Resolve icon, press the little mute icon next to the volume bar.

Dude thank you so much you helped me big time! For some reason the audio in dr 17 wasnt playing through my headphones only from my laptop and i followed your advice just to see what i can find there and i saw that i can change dr 17 output from "default" to my headphones then i closed dr 17 then opened back up and now the audio is playing through my headphones!

This doesn't work for me at all. Even when I specifically designate an audio output device nothing changes. The aproach with the busses works but I have no idea why. Never had this issue and it only affects my main timeline and not other sequences or the source monitor.

Very useful tutorial! I haven't switched to 17 yet, but knowing that BlackMagic has changed the terminology from "Main 1" to "Bus 1" is important information. Also knowing that some of my global settings might not transfer is also first rate information. Thanks so much!

Super thanks man, solved. In my case was something different, it was without any audio, when I opened that BUS thing I've saw that the volume was on infinite low, not why since it's a fresh install.

Hi Jason. Thank you so much, once again. Like a total noob I had the level control in the edit page down. Strange thing is that this was a new project and that setting must have been remembered from a previous project. This must obviously be a global setting or something on Mac. The odd thing was that my VU levels for track and master buss on the Fairlight page were showing levels, this is what had me going round in circles. There's also the fact that I'm a little "DIM" as well :) Thanks again, you stopped me going mad, again. Cheers, Dave.

An easierway: go to app settings > Audio > Speaker Setup > change it from auto to manual and that's it. For whatever reason, in my case, this is the only way Resolve has worked for me.

Thanks for the great tip! I have the same problem, even in the official, non-beta release of v17.1. In my case, I have two audio tracks, both already assigned to Bus1, but still no audio. To fix this, I had to remove the Bus Output assignment for both audio tracks and then reassign them.

Try clicking on the three little dots and see if you can show that part of the mixer in Fairlight.

Man, why does everything have to be needlessly convoluted in Resolve? I remember wanting to do side scrolling text on Resolve and was dumbfounded to see that I have to use a bunch of stuff just to accomplish that. Thanks for the video, though! Helped me out!

I have many times changed the audio device in the "Preferences > Audio I/O" and that has usually worked, but this time I didn't realize what the heck was wrong because no matter how many times I tried to set the proper device manually and restart DaVinci I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Then I watched this video and it was the first thing... muted audio, I feel stupid 0_0 thanks for the video, helped this dummy out!

How about the color page in Resolve 17 randomly stopping output of sound when all other pages work fine. Been a bug since version 16

Thanks for explanation how to check and set sound, bus etc. to be sure that DaVinci is set well. Finally, I realized that my issue is in propagation of sound from Windows to bluetooth headphones. When I switched audio output to built-in/internal speakers I could hear audio.

A lot of times there are issues when trying to use Bluetooth with Resolve. I always recommend a wired connection if possible.

if anyone else is still having this issue, go into your headset settings and change it from "1 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz" to the option one up "1 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)". For some reason my headset wouldn't play sound unless it was on the DVD quality option.

Hi! Are you using Headphones? I've read that Resolve does not support ASIO drivers which is what Windows often uses to drive headphones. Not sure if that helps you at all.....

Following up on my problem I had, I was using wireless headphones to try and listen to my audio. I figured it was a problem with the program or something but my headset was not able to get the audio from the program itself, but everything else was fine transmitting to it. I plugged in some earbuds and switched which audio I was looking at and it appears as the only thing on the audio mixer for my earbuds. I suggest if neither main problem fix works for you, if youre using headphones of any kind check which output is being used on your computer, and try using wired headphones/earbuds or the main computer speakers Edit: I am currently on an online chat with a Razer customer support person trying to see if there is an issue with the product connecting to the audio with Davinci Resolve considering the audio for the program does not appear on the sound mixer for the audio device Edit#2: wired connections work, bluetooth does not allow audio to play through the program for some odd reason

Hi! Try closing Resolve, then make sure that your computer has the proper sound settings- where you want to hear audio. Then reopen Resolve, go to DaVinci Resolve at the top left, choose system at the top of the next window, then down to Audio and Video I/O. Make sure that 'Speaker Configuration' is set to 'Use System Settings'. Do you see the meters moving and hear anything in your project now?

I have my audio bars that move, but have no audio going to my headset(pluged in to the PC via front aux) I use my headset for everthing else audio Games Browser Windows. But Davinchi doesnt send the audio to them, I know the audio files are fine because i can go to Video and Sound IO and change it to Mono and use my Monitor and i can hear the audio through there. I just get nothing to them via headset and yes i have it at 48000hz

thx for the video jason ! resolve crashed and came back up with this problem. i never encountered it before - it was quite a shock to see bus instead of main with no audio . only happens on that timeline that crashed though. real strange. all other timelines shows main . but this helped to alleviate the stress heaps. thanks again !

Hi Jay. This is how good you are, mate. 43 seconds in and you'd solved my problem! Ok, you are really good but in this case it was more a case of I'm a dumbass. As soon as you showed the 'mute' in your video a very dim and flickery lightbulb went off in my head. The think is, this isn't the first time I've made this mistake! Hey! I think it really depends on your setup and the quality you want to get from it. For me, I do record audio on my camera, but that's only to sync it up in post with my Yeti that records directly into the computer. However if I'm out and about with my camera, I use a Lav or shotgun mic directly into the camera. Really just depends on your circumstances.

Í noticed the BUS Issue These days. Problem can be, in your headphone are not connected to the Computer you are using. I mainly Uwe headphones, for Edition the and listening, but when I use my headphones on a different device and start Davinci 17 without the headphones plugged into my laptop, I get the BUS error message. When I plug in my Headphones and restart Davinci, it works again.

I was so happy to find this video until I tried to do what you suggest. No change. Been using DaVinci for a number of projects and this started happening so I stopped using it. FINALLY found the Patch Input/Output in the Fairlight menu and selected my output from there. Could only patch to my computer speakers, not the Bluetooth headphones. A different fix for now. I typically use Adobe Premiere but liked the simplicity of DaVinci.

When I plug in my headphones while using DR17 I keep getting an error message and no sound "Audio Output, Selected device not found" I have to restart DR17 to get my headphones to work. I'm using a Win 10 Laptop I bought a few months ago. Thanks for any help.

Hi! Not sure what's going on there. If your system sees it, Resolve should just use it as the default. Maybe it's a beta glitch? Not sure...

Hey could you mention this to, the reason why the audio isn't attached to your clip, is because they are probably dragging the clip down (the little square box on the video) to the timeline, instead, click on the video itself and drag it down to the timeline.

You can also go to the Davinci Resolve Tab -> Preferences -> Video and Audio I/O -> Output device and check that its going to your headphones or whatever

Hi! You could maybe check to see that the main Bus 1 (unless you changed it) is being rendered out. Check in the audio tab of the Deliver tab render settings.

Hi! I'm not exactly sure where you are referring to, but try checking in the Fairlight --> Bus Assign window. Make sure that the B1:Bus 1 Out has your available tracks asigned to it. The other thing to check is to go into DaVinci Resolve Preferences --> System --> Video & Audio I/O (on the left) --> check the audio interface, use Madi and also go under speaker setup and make sure it says 'use system setting.'

Thank you so much for this. Was in the middle of a project, and every audio track worked except the last one, which would not play at all. Not sure why a bus output didn't get assigned to it as there was only the default bus in play.

Hi! Do you have anything being sent to the side chain? I'd double check the bus assignments. Also make sure that any channels being sent to the side chain have the side chain enabled. Now it appears in the bus section and for me has been off by default. That said, BMD just released Beta 6 today, maybe give that a try.

I had a bizzare glitch where the only way I got audio back was to delete the timeline and listen to clips in the media pool. Then when I put the clips back on the timeline it worked again. Very weird. Hopefully it won't happen with the new update.

Thank you so much for making help videos. I had no sound in Resolve and the Bus routing was the key. On the Fairlight page, there are some settings under the top menu bar Fairlight Tab. The patch input/output selector allowed me to route my audio from the track input into the mixer input. It may be helpful to switch between icon and list view to help visualize the system. The default was to record audio from a microphone or other audio input, so I set it to Track input. There are a variety of audio settings that enabled me to have control over my audio routing. Before I viewed your video, I did not realize that all the audio is routed though a Bus system and there does not seem to be a Main Out audio control. I suspect this may be to assist in mixing surround stems where multiple outputs are needed. Your video was very helpful. Thanks very much my audio works.

If your problem is cache related, try deactivating this option in windows "controlled folder access -> manage controlled folder access -> controlled folder access OF". Turn that of and it should work now. The program don't have permission to save cache if that is turned on. It took me 2 days to solve it, so I'm now spamming all youtube tutorials with this info.

Hi! Sorry to hear your having problems. One viewer told me that Resolve is t working with ASIO drivers on windows which is what may run the headphones when connected to the computer. I’m a Mac guy so I’m not sure of the fix. Maybe there is a different driver that can be used?

Jason, I upgraded from 16 to 17 and do not see the bus option in the menu. On top of the slider I just see Main1. Cannot find out why volume is not working, All sliders show there is a signal there.

Hi! You may need to take a look in the preferences, then system at the top, then Audio and Video i/o and make sure it's set to your speakers or 'use system setting'. That might do it for you. People do have problems with headphones and not being able to hear audio. If that's your case, try unplugging the headphones and see if that works.

FYI, I have the studio version of DR170B, Build 6, and don't see a bus output option under three dots. The project was created in DR16, that may be why I still have Main output.

Hi! Did you check your system settings on your computer? Make sure that looks good to? Any chance your channels getting sent to the side chain? I find the side chain gets turned off sometimes too and you need to turn that on if you’re using it. Maybe double check them bus1 is your main out since you can have multiple busses.

If not go to Preference under Menu> DaVinci Resolve>Video and Audio I/O under System>Speaker Setup>Speaker configuration >Change to Use System Setting. Make sure to check Device Setting Under it to see if it goes straight to your headphones or speaker. Hope That helps if not being solve.

I understand you see the wave forms but if the channels isn’t being sent to a main out, then you won’t hear any sound. Without looking at it I’m not sure why you might not hear anything. You can try checking the audio settings in the preferences menu, just to make sure sound it sent to the proper speakers.

Great video, but I followed this, & no cigar, I realised there may be another reason there may not be any sound, I wonder if anyone thinks I'm on the right track. I've added other audio to the project and the audio is working, just not the audio on the video I imported. Are there audio formats which aren't supported by Da Vinci?

Yes, it's totally possible that the format is not supported. If you google DaVinci Resolve Supported Formats, there's a PDF on the Black Magic website that should come up and tell you all the formats. What worked for me: Ctrl+, for Preferences wasn't showing my plugged-in headphones in Video and Audio I/O next to Output Device and neither when the same ones were connected via Bluetooth. So I turned them off and restarted them by long-holding their On/Off button so the connection would be reset. I connected them to my Windows and after having created that new connection, DaVinci recognised them and showed them next to Output Device in Video and Audio I/O in Preferences.

Found my problem with no audio! If you have an audio plugin that has a subscription plan and/or frequently asks you to reconfirm your licence keys/subscription (such as a ERA audio plugins), check the plugins that you have active in Fairlight. Two of my ERA plugins wanted subscriptions/keys reconfirmed, and were temporarily silencing the audio track until I reconfirmed them. I did. Presto. My audio track in Davinci was 'on' again! I had tried all kinds of fixes and this 'background' one turned out to be the problem

I am unable to load a clip onto my timeline? All track locks are off and still no clips will load to the timeline, Is there another fix or a setting I am missing? I have loaded DR 17.4. Would appreciate your help!

HI! You should be able to just drag and drop it in there. Can you get clips into the media pool? Have you tried a fresh, new project? Maybe give the computer a restart?
