Just a little demonstration on how I climb using just my platform. Works well for me, and saves a lot of weight I would need to carry out. I tie my gun or bow off to the end of the climbing rope to hoist them up. The tree and the height I go up determines whether I repel or climb down. I keep a linesmen's rope in my saddle pouch.
