Me too, I need an expansion of ALL, the universe of this game is incredible! And game have lots of interesting notes about places and events that we can't see but sounds fantastic!
@@Flipping10 Making a game from scratch is not an easy task and Metronomik is a small studio, so, I can overlook that honestly. I'm looking forward to the next game they're working on "Ondeh Ondeh"
This game is the definition of a musical masterpiece, I am very glad to see how the developers were able to experiment with many genres of music and managed to make it all sound wonderful together.
I am so happy to see someone talk about this amazing game, my experience was with the original on Switch (never ever get that one, Encore on Steam or other consoles is the superior version) but even despite the flaws, I enjoyed the game so much. I hope it gets more recognition for it's fun combination of music, gameplay, and characters, especially as you really learned about them. Also I loved the little commercials for each artist and how you can just watch them.
No Straight Roads is absolutely amazing!!! ^^ It's been a while since I played the game and I've gotta get back into it Wonder if it'll get a sequel at some point in the future?
funny thing is, this game is made by a Malaysian game company and Malaysia loves Rock and has it’s own genre “Jiwang” which is kinda like rock. And the thing that starts the whole story is that Rock gets banned
Not only the story had a good protagonist development but it also tackles about other types of problematic musicians as well. Like example : A Vtuber/Vocaloid singer is not getting recognized by the people who made the art, instruments, lyrics, and vocals because they only see a Vtuber and not the actual people who's behind it as well. Two rappers trying to disses each other out of pity and unnecessary dramas. A DJ with a fragile ego. A parent pressuring their children to become successful so they can live in a wealthy life and not realizing how selfish is their desires are. You get the idea.
Give it a gay update like haven got and I'll buy it in an instant. Doesn't matter whether there's any romance tbh, but I'd still prefer being able to play as two girls :p Might still buy it anyway, but that's for another time.
8:06 THIS This is one of the top three things that really gets me whenever NSR is brought up. The developers did DEFINITELY _NOT_ needed to go that far but they did!! Funfact! There were SIX guitarists for Mayday's solos. Wowww (though they are unnamed as far as I know.) Mcfcuking APPLAUD to the creators. They put in alotta work. Each various stories, various characters, places. Sure it's janky here and there, but the fact that this game didn't make it to top popular stuff in 2020 is just very irritating. AND this game was made by MALAY DEVS South Asian rep!!! Holy shit.
Just finished the whole video, and i couldn't agree more. Your video helped me clear my feelings out! The conclusion part. It's not something new, in game mechanics and stuff and stories. But the _feelings_ . It 'touches' me. Haha. I'll admit I didn't had much expectation form this video, but now finishing it and seeing how you put your words, i really applaud this! Again, thank you for making this!
Made me wanna give this game a go. I heard it was really buggy, so I decided I would admire the game afar and man, did I absolutely adore it. but now you said Encore fixes the game up so it's a definite buy!!! Also is there some kind of inside joke I'm missing with the whole "Tatania" pronounciations?
Anyone also notice how the NSR artists kinda have powers like the six infinity stones? With Space for DJ Subatomic Supernova Reality for Sayu Soul for Yinu Power for 1010 Mind for Eve And Time for Tatiana
When I first heard of this game, it felt like it was made just for people like me and that is just beautiful. This just speaks to me, and if you have even just a little interest in playing it, please do it. Also, awesome video. Why does it have so little views?
The OST track is so GOOD that I immediately bought the original when it came out and aswell both the Christmas version AND the remix version in the Encore edition! Shame you didn't mention the Christmas version? Like seriously name me another game that has an Christmas version to their game tract and still maintain the head banger that song had??!!
I love the songs in the christmas version but only like certain ones in the encore edition. However...In the original I love them all! Sayu and Eve are my all time faves! I mean Eve is my fave character and I love her outfit in the Chirstmas version.
Finally someone talks about how amazing this game is! I just love the small details sprinkled across the game, and one of my favourites is that in the vinyl city theme, it’s mostly EDM, but every so often you can hear the sound of an electric guitar echoing in the background, showing that vinyl city was built through rock, and that even if EDM currently rules it, rock still is in its foundations, and left its mark It’s such a joy to play, and I’m definitely going to be playing it again thanks so this video Also: this game has one of the best insults I’ve ever heard come from a game: “eat dirt, you piece of plank”
I love how when you replay the game you notice how every edm character has a good quality that effects their district like dj supernova is a asshole but he try to educate his district and sayu inspires a cleaner world shown in the pirate character
Great watch! Have not found too many videos talking about NSR in a in-depth review format like this. Very much a treat to find one this well put together. This game really is awesome! --and that is not me being biased because I did graffiti art for it hehehe--
Spoilers: In the 2nd DK West Encounter after Zuke "You're No Brother Of Mine" the way the music just continues for a long time before ending because West was so shocked by it and couldn't come up with anything is so good
I discovered this game 'cause a video with their boss battles and now is one of my favourites. I love it hard, specially the character design and personality, simply a masterpiece.
@Sydney's Gacha anime It's difficult to choose only one favourite character, but I could say mine is Dj SubSup. His voice, personality, design, story... I love it all from him. But Tatiana is possibly one of my most favourite female characters ever. She is incredible, I love her voice, and how combines wisdom with irony, resulting in a charisma bomb. Very great character.
Same, hell I avoided it initially because I thought it was some cheesy game from the thumbnail. Then I just let it auto play and the music stole my heart
NSR is something else man, it’s an underdog story done SO right, and everything adds up into a game that leaves a lasting impression on you. also that soundtrack BABYYYY 11/10 INCREDIBLE
This whole game is a DIAMOND. I love how when you gain items of the bosses you get to explore their backstories. Vs. Yinu and Vs. Sayu are my jams. DK West is our man. and Bunka Junka Shakalaka Bam!
Man, I love when games are made from the heart, it's really great when people can express their own emotions instead of depending on companies which is, pretty ironic. I really want more people to know about this game, it really deserves more attention.
upon seeing the thumbnail with those words on it, i STOPPED and scrolled back, and screamed (internally) *"i kNOW R I GH T ?!"* upon reading the title THANK YOU for making this video because I don't have much to express my love for NSR which I thought will never be shared enough and this game is just ARGH _SO_ GOOD. And i woudkvet cried if this game went unnoticed by the world
Oh man, I've been hyperfixated on this game since 2019, ever since the first trailer dropped! I help run a couple discord fan groups and I designed one of the guitars in the game too, under the same username. It's been a huge inspiration to my art and even perspective on a lot of things I'm really glad it's getting the recognition it deserves, the characters and world are so fun, and the messages are really well-done, focusing on the problems that both sides face and also cause. It's a breath of fresh air to see SEA culture represented in a game while still relating to general audiences. I could ramble about the characters for hours and write literal essays on the themes and design of this game but, I think you summarized everything pretty well about just what it is that makes this such a great game!
The name of the game “No Straight Roads” is really clever foreshadowing with Tatiana’s valid criticism of the rock revolution. One small detail that’s really easy to overlook, but is equally smart as the rest of the tiny details.
Fun fact about the artists who made the music for NSR; The artists James Landino, Funk Fiction, Falk Au Yeong and Andy Tunstall (Their group is called Cliqtrack) contributed with music to Sonic Before the Sequel and After The Sequel. They did a mix of the Base tracks, the EDM versions and Rock versions. It's amazing how they wrote this music together and adapted it to different genres. There were also some extra artists on the game like Masahiro Aoki, RoboRob and Az Samad. This game is a musical love letter and I loved my time with it.
There are actually 3 different versions of each boss theme! A regular version, a more EDM version, and the Rock version. Not to mention theres the Christmas remixes too. The amount if effort that went into this game really shows and I love it! (Edit: I want to mention that there exists videos and remixes online where people have mixed all 3 versions of each boss track with eachother and they sound GREAT, being built in a way that they fit together like puzzle pieces. Pretty poetic considering the end message of the game is that EDM and Rock should work together rather than oppose eachother.)
Man, I don't usually comment, but I happened upon your video from referencing the Sayu OST track to a friend of mine and WOW. I am super impressed with how you eloquently described the game, as well as the great editing and progression of the video. You didn't make it hard to watch but you didn't spare us the details. This is a channel that deserves to have more subscribers. I might as well watch more reviews on your channel, and I'm not the kind of guy to watch review videos (that says a lot!) Keep it up!
I gotta admit, I was really worried that this game was going to have one of those pretentious “rock is authentic and EDM is straight trash and you have shit taste in music if you like it” messages. I’m so glad that turned out not being the case!
I've loved this game since it came out. A boss fight compilation on my recommended is how I found it, and I've been in love ever since. This game is phenomenal and I hope there is some kinda sequel.
My mom forced me to work for the game AND NOW I CAN GET THE GAME!!! I've been wanting the game since I saw this video and I LOVE exploring the world of video games and music so this game felt like a match made in heaven when I first saw it and I had to work my butt off a LOT so I can get this game but it is so worth it! I am so so SO happy that I can get the game on May 20th(my mom gets money on the 20th and I can't get a part time job yet) I just want to say THANK YOU RU-vid for putting this video into my recommendations and THANK YOU Ramen bomber for making this video!
@outwalkingthebird I love it sosososo much still! I've been locked out of my steam account for a so i haven't been able to play again for a I've taken quite a bit of comfort in yinu due to how I perceived her battle since it got progressively overshadowed by her mom, and I related with my recent hobby of baking since I've been put under a lot of pressure by my parents and siblings ro keep improving at a rate that is making me struggle.. I actually got so caught up with just adoring the designs and the soundtracks for a good while that it led to me kinda not fully completing the game.. I've already mentioned being locked out of my steam account but I've also been taking on a bunch of things at once with figuring out a lot of stuff for myself since I need to also focus on what's next for me making me have a very busy schedule especially since I'm in grade 11 now with school starting in a week (Sorry for the rambling, but the game has affected me and school quite a bit) a couple songs have been incorporated into my study playlist due to how I just get really focused when listening- idk but I had more fun studying for tests and stuff when I had the soundtrack playing in the background I just love the game so much, and I could ramble about yinu alone for a good 20 minutes if given the chance
@@Bowlingballstan aww that's just reallyy sweet im so happy you got to enjoy the game, I feel like enjoying the game is one thing and playing it is another thing, I hope you get your steam account back if not at least you got to experience it. from your previous message I can already tell you would relate to yinu im so happy you found comfort in her :] good luck with the rest of your life everything will be fine
Idk why everyone always complains about the combat in this game I've never had a problem with it and the controls work well enough. I mean, it's not breaking new ground or anything, but it's completely serviceable and I like being able to strategically switch characters on the fly to save health or inflict extra damage
Great game? Fuck yeah it is! I have one problem with it, and unfortunately it's the game's community... I don't entirely know how it was possible, but for a game that flew under the radar for nearly 2 years now, the small community it has created ended up being one of the worst communities I've interacted with. Small niche communities are normally full of great people, most of the time they're devoid of anything that would be considered toxic. NSR's fanbase started off great and still has fantastic people in it, don't get me wrong, but as time went on I've noticed that the majority of people who've entered the fanbase (who would end up making the majority of the fanbase) fell into either of these groups: K-Pop fans and/or Tumblr refugees. They entered this fanbase and brought in a bunch of toxic people who overwhelmed the community. Fan characters, headcanons, shipping, fan fictions, people who take fan art of a virtual mermaid too seriously (who is considered *FICTION* inside of a *FICTIONAL* game btw), it just kept getting worse due to the PR team's openness to anything their fans have created. One of the people I've met ended up being someone who would go on to harass the voice-actors of the game over something on Discord. Let's also not forget that horhestio guy who uploaded boss fight videos using cropped NSFW artwork, just look at the fanbase's reaction to that (granted he DID use cropped R34 of Yinu, that's just unacceptable, but a lot of people weren't just reacting to that). My interest in the community slowly faded after this revelation. It's not just me either: most people I've met through interest of this game also turned away from it due to the reasons above. Despite all that though... I'm still thankful I ended being part of that community. If it wasn't for this game, I wouldn't have met a lot of wonderful people who share many interests outside of this game. To this day, I'm still close friends with these people, and it's all because some Malaysians decided to create a rhythm-based hack n' slash. I honestly don't know where I'd be without this game!
It's obvious that they put a lot of thought into the heart and soul of the game and those who play it feel that love. I feel the rock journey of Um Jammer Lammy, the anti-establishment vibes of Jet Set Radio, the Over-the-top theatrics of Psychonauts, and the social honesty of cause and effect of Life is Strange... This was not a game, it was an art piece.
The music came up in my shuffle mix on RU-vid a few times and realized I liked them a lot. And I’m already a fan of Funk Fiction, the artist so I listened to a lot of music on repeat like you which lead me here learning more about this game and if it’s a good fit for me. Ironically,it reminds me a lot of “Hi-Fi Rush” even though that just came out. My cousin recommended it to me and I love the voice actors in that game but I don’t have Xbox or a decent PC. So I guess, for now, I’m stuck playing No Straight Roads first.
Ive already known about this game and I do love this game ,I'm so glad people are talking about this game ,it truly is so underrated, such a hidden gem 😭😭😭 i don't have this game but ive seen so many videos of no straight roads and have listened to every single song in this game I'm Spotify & YT ,but legit did not know about the lil details like the rock ver being played when they had the advantage in the boss battles and the solos that match the game bosses background:O
Started playing NSR in June 2021 and just got ADDICTED to it (specially with DJ Subatomic Super Nova) and all the way through Encore Edition. Easily my top game of all 2021. NSR will live on my heart and memory forever as one of the greatest and most memorable game I’ve played, and boy do I have listened to the soundtrack a lot! 💜
ok so i played this game on the switch and tbh some of the boss battles are not synced to the music and its was very disappointing. but i did enjoy the game
