Explorer's haven't come with pickup covers for a long long time, you'll find the sound and feel without covers to be more direct, preferable for the heavier rock/metal players. Don't trust me? Look up a comparison with covers on/off and you'll hear the difference for yourself!

@@theoryofthrash Actually, it hasn’t really been all that long ago. A buddy of mine bought a new Explorer from Sweetwater for his son back in 2020 and they had covers on it. I’ve been playing guitar over 40 years now and with the covers off it does make a difference in sound. However, I guess I’m just old-school because for me the covers look better.

@@dragannestorovic01 I know, right!? 🙄😒 It’s the exact same case with the Gibson Firebird V, you can get one for around $2000 but if you like one with the Maestro Vibrola attached it currently runs for $6500! That’s 🐂💩 because you can go by the same exact Vibrola (even with the Gibson logo on it) for around 200 bucks and have a luthier attach it for you for probably about the same amount. I don’t think they are remotely aware of it but all Gibson is doing with this overpriced mentality is slowly driving the nails in their own coffin! Of course, the economy is one thing that has stopped people from buying pricey musical instruments, but even before the economy went to hell Gibson‘s hadn’t exactly been flying off the shelves like they have in decades past. Gibson’s mentality seems to be anyone will pay whatever just to own one but people aren’t doing that. Even with a lot of younger players, they are beginning to lose their luster and the same young people are calling them “your grandfather’s overpriced guitar!“ If Gibson doesn’t get their heads out of their 🫏 here soon and address that issue they’re going to start laying people off. I had high hopes for their new CEO after that weirdo, Henry J. left but it appears their new CEO is no better than Henry was. My apologies for the long rant. I love Gibson’s and have been a faithful follower of them all my life, but it’s just what they are doing frustrates the hell out of me and a lot of other guitar players.

@@phayzyre1052 My apologies! It seems they did make them with covers for a few years, mine was off the old explorer series which was coverless since 1990 so I assumed that never changed. I will say adding covers is one of the cheapest, most reversible mod you can do, so I wouldn’t be too concerned if my guitar came with them or not.
