#Training wheels are old school! We got our toddler riding #MTB trails faster with starting off on a balance bike!
We learned how to ride a #bike using Training wheels as a kid. Fast forward to today, and we have Balance bikes from Strider classic 12, Co-Op rev 12, and Woom 1. This is the fastest way we got Grayson mountain biking with us on local singletrack trails. Grayson started on his classic 12-inch balance bike the day he turned 3. In only 9 months, he transitioned to a pedal bike, speeding down trails with my wife and me. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan! #Teaching #kids how to ride singletrack is easier than ever before.
in my opinion, training wheels build the wrong muscle memory; they keep the bike upright and little riders get used to the bike being restricted like that. So when it comes time to transition away from the training wheels, they struggle because now they're learning the most challenging parts of riding a bike. Disregarding everything else, you cannot bring a bike with training wheels onto any type of dirt trail or bumpy single track and expect it to go well.
Balance bikes taught Grayson how to safely and naturally turn, lean, glide, and BALANCE. It was straightforward and quick when it was time to transition him into a big boy pedal bike. The day I returned with Grayson's first pedal bike, he was riding down the street within 2 hours by himself. One week after he learned how to use the coaster brake, he rode single track with my wife and me. family mountain biking family MTB trails
