one of the best writers in the era of skatepunk cheers to tony and his family! i know right now isnt the day just seeing your comment made me happy to hear people still listen to tony and no use for a name my favourite band ever
Thank you Tony and No Use. Just found out today after 38 years I’m having my first baby and it’s a girl…this song helped me find the words and navigate the flood of emotions. Never forget Tony Sly.
My favorite band of all time. Whether punk, rock, rap, country, anything!! These dudes have been my personal favorite for years and I can only imagine where they would be today. Surely as big as NOFX! R.I.P. Sly
Now that I have a little girl this song means so much more to me. "I'm always here" gave me chills. I wish that I could leave something as wonderful as this to my daughter after I'm gone.
I think it’s awesome how different bands from Fat wreck chords took time to make a tribute album for Tony. Shows the true impact he had as a musician and that his legacy will live on
Today is sunday the 31 of July, 2022. Ten years. Love and regards to your family, they have Always been there for you and with us in many of your songs. Warm regards to B., F. and K. SLY.
It's been 3 years since Tony died and it still feels to a lot of people (me included) like he's still here, his songs still matter and change lives. Although this song was written for his daughter, the words "I owe you eternally" represent perfectly my feelings towards him. Tony, you changed my life for good, I wouldn't be who I am without your songs. You will never be forgotten and always be missed. Rest in peace. Love and respect from Brazil.
offspring1983 So True :) Tony Sly is an angel that was taken too soon! The very definition of introspective, amazing, truly heart and soul punk. RIP. Gone but NEVER Forgotten..
He like milo of his generation every one liked him!and so many nice memoris come to my head when i listen to nufan! R.I.P tony and thank you for ur music
The first song I listened to the moment I heard the news. Can’t believe it’s already been nearly 10 years since your daughter (and the world) lost you. RIP, Tony.
"For Fiona" I can't even think of words to match the way I'm feeling I don't even think a book could say enough for you I can only try my best, to put it in a song I guess You try to speak, I know you tell the truth If I could freeze our small amount of time together Then we could make believe this world would never end (make believe this world would never end) Unfortunately truth is cold So you stay young while I get old But always know, I'm your best friend Nothing is the same Everything is a better change Sometimes I see silence in your eyes Let it all crash down When it ends it begins with you I'm gonna learn every time you do And I'm as scared as anybody who has done this I wouldn't give it up for nothing free You took my life, turned it around And put my feet back on the ground I owe you, eternally Nothing is the same Everything is a better change Sometimes I see silence in your eyes Let it all crash down When it ends it begins with you I'm gonna learn every time you do I'm always I'm always I'm always here I'm always I'm always I'm always here Nothing is the same Everything is a better change Sometimes I see silence in your eyes Let it all crash down When it ends it begins with you I'm gonna learn every time you do
I'm a fan of nufan from thailand. Although I never meet you but you are my inspiration. you are one of the best song writer in punk rock scene that I ever know. it's sad because I never see your show. Rest In Punk Tony.
I have never missed a musician as much as Tony...sometimes it just hurts...No use obviously but his Solo work is beyond AMAZING...damn Tony...I just need you here
Translation for people who don't speak Japanese: "Always loved this song, why I keep dropping tears when I'm listening to this song... this song is so thought provking. Even now Tony Sly is still the light in my heart, Sorry for the Japanese comment" Here feels the same, bro... I miss Tony so much
As i sit here, on the eve of my daughters 5th birthday, having just sung this to her as she fell asleep i cant help but be in awe at how hard the lyrics hit when you have a daughter. R.I.P Tony, and thank you for all the times your music kept me going so i could be here with my little girl and 1 year old son.
what a beautiful song, comes straight from the heart thats the good kind of music. The world lost a really amazing writer when Tony left. It's a damn shame, but thanks for leaving us this bit of greatness
It's for Fiona, of course, the best reminder of her father to her! But that song is also a gift for all of us. WE STILL LOVE YOU, TONY. WE STILL LOVE NUFAN. Thank you for that wonderful years.
I wish I could like anything as much as I like Tony Sly. I never will and I'm still torn up I'll never see him live again. Music that just touches my soul.
This song meant so much to me as a kid, if just picked me up when i was down. Fell away from punk music for a few years, but stumbled across this song again when listening to blink182 with my 7 year old daughter who is getting into punk music. I was so happy to find this gem again. Just today was listening to nofx and heard so sorru tony, then generation z, found out who the young girls singers were, and led me here again. Here i am a 30 year ild man watery eyed at work, just wanna go jam this song and hug my little girl. If thats not music making you feel something real idk what is. We are all so lucky to have these songs. Stay safe everyone, and love to all who see this!
Top two greatest songwriters in punk: Bill Stevenson and Tony Sly. Tony was unique because he had a more serious poetic quality to.his lyrics, unlike a lot of Fat Wreck bands at the time. He listened to folk and country music which you can really hear if you listen closely. I love NUFAN, they were one of the rare bands that every album was amazing, even as they embraced a more pop punk sound, Life Sized Mirror, International You Day, and Straight from the Jacket are probably my favourite songs from them but their entire discography is something you should check out when you have the chance.
Hearing this is like hearing the story of an Angel dieing. T Slye was such a great person first. He's so missed. It's awesome and hard to listen to this song, because he should still be here. R.I.P. pouring one out for you Homes. Not forgotten, legends never die.
Any given punk band of the times gave major props to two bands in their liner notes, and they were Face to Face, and No Use for a Name. Every. Single. One.
I know it is different somehow, but I can't help but feel like I know how people felt the day John Lennon died. I started listening to NUFAN back in 96 when I was 14. My daughter was born in 2010 and hearing of Tony's death in 2012 felt like so much had ended. SO much growing up and his words were always there. Still listening today and will continue to miss him always.
I was too late to join the party but not a single day goes without thinking about Tony and how much he meant to punk community. Rest in peace to the brother I never met.
This song reminds me of my granddad, he suffered from dementia, he had that silence in his eyes. My grandma always took great care of him, she stayed young while he got old. Everything was a better change for him..
Tuve la suerte de verlos cuando vinieron por segunda vez a la Argentina. Me alegra saber que estuvimos tan cerca y que no dude en ir a ese recital. Tony Sly una influencia muy grande en mi vida!
I can't even think of words to match the way I'm feeling I don't even think a book can say enough for you I can only try my best to put it in a song I guess, you try to speak I know you tell the truth If I could freeze our small amount of time together Then we could make believe this world would never end Unfortunately truth is cold So you stay young while I get old But always know, I'm your best friend Nothing is the same, everything is a better change Sometimes I see silence in your eyes Let it all crash down When it ends, it begins with you I'm going to look every time you do And I'm as scared as anybody who has done this I wouldn't give it up for nothing Fi You took my love, turned it around You put my feet back on the ground I owe you, eternally Nothing is the same, everything is a better change Sometimes I see silence in your eyes Let it all crash down When it ends, it begins with you I'm going to look every time you do I'm always I'm always I'm always here I'm always I'm always I'm always here Nothing is the same, everything is a better change Sometimes I see silence in your eyes Let it all crash down When it ends, it begins with you I'm going to look every time you do
I listen to the first album when i was a teen and recently found nufan again and so saddened to find out Tony is gone but WHAT an amazing band.I can not stop listening .So underrated .So talented So amazing. This is 2017 and I Iove NUFAN
The saddest part of this song is the line "So you stay young while I get old, but always know, I'm your best friend" because the day will come that shes older than him and the roles will reverse.
Have you tried to listen to Lagwagon's Exit cover? That's like the ultimate challenge and I'm only talking about the video, nevermind how it would feel in a live setting. Semi final is International You Day from Tony's acoustic album
true, ignoring his passing, every song he made had a hint of melancholy from "Death Doesn't Care" to "Insecurity Alert" to this song. especially "Life Size Mirror", "Pride" and "Feels Like Home".
I saw live No Use a couple of months before Tony´s death in Vorterix Theatre in Buenos Aires, never forget that night btw. Still sad. Rest in peace brother :(
This song reminds me of how much a song can relate to a person, and that is a success that can hardly be found here in 2018, people just see punk music as noises combined but I see beauty in each words written. RIP Tony Sly.
- Lester Bangs , 1980. Twist and Shout in My List
fist? como hablas del punk y ni siquiera sabes escribir ingles (me imagino ni hablarlo)? si no sabes ingles no pretendas que sabes algo de la cultura británica porque entonces es como querer hablar de futbol sin saber una mierda de deportes.
I've been a NUFAN fan for a long time, but I never appreciated this song until recently. I'm struggling to figure out why, because this song rocks. RIP Tony.
