The super typhoon Odette (Rai) really shocked us all, we have to survive now on base instincts. No water, no power and without contact with the outside world. This is the aftermath of the storm.

Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to Siargao island with Jmayel's mum & Story's grandma just before the Global pandemic that sent the whole planet into quarantine. We got stranded for months and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.

If you survive a typhoon in the Philippines consider yourself as a Filipino. We always find positivity in trials and it's a default for us to move forward and look for a better tomorrow. During calamity events, we opt to help others than helping our selves because we found joy in it and we saw it in Story's attitude. She is such an adorable daughter. We hope everything will get better for you guys.

It's crazy to see the road from your area. All things considered, you guys were truly one of the lucky ones. The house stayed up, the roof is still in place, the cars still run... The central Visayas have experienced typhoons but never that strong. So many were caught off guard. I'm glad everyone, including PaPang and his family are safe.

Thanks for everything you are doing. I’m also British and my girlfriend lives in Cebu and sadly her house was destroyed. I’m amazed at the resilience of the Filipino people, they are inspirational. I’ll pay to fix my girlfriends home and I just wish I could do more. Take care both x

I'm very present to how isolated you and your family appear to be since this disaster.... as if you are trying to repair and survive as an isolated family. Please know that in the Filipino culture, you are never truly alone. It maybe that because of how you appear (at least to me.maybe to others?) that your privacy and space need to be respected but if you need help, even if only to feel others around you, whether to help you or you to help them, you only need to reach out. To talk, to share experiences, to give advice and expertise, a shoulder to cry on, to hear laughter especially among the children. Take a break and visit the rest of the island. Your home will not disappear, it's in better shape than most everyone else's. Being there for others and for yourself is one of the biggest keys of resilience that the Filipino people have learned from being a country hit by more natural disasters than any other country in the World. They've reached out and even offer their other place to a local family who comes to help/work for them that completely lost their house . As for going to Davao or somewhere else that would just be to have a respite from the devastation or be away while repairs are done on their place if ever they went away . These videos wer filmed few days after the typhoon , it is over a week now things must have improved and plans can be changed

You have given us a thorough pictures on the scales of destruction of the island, your description is coming from your personal experiences of places before and after the typhoon. I feel your pain guys, Sasha raw emotions, Story longing for even simple thing like cookies, and Jay’s anxiety whether to leave the island or not. There a lot of silver linings Jay like your friends surviving this disaster. I have a suggestion, I think it is time to move temporarily just until the basic services are restored. Have you consider Dumaguete? There are a lot of expatriates, close to the beach, good schools, good infrastructures and friendly and gentle people. It is drivable if the conditions are passable.

Hello Eight miles from home. I saw in the news today that Maynilad will send water treatment truck next week there in Siargao, there is already in Cebu and Bohol..I hope that it will reach Siargao as soon as possible because lots of people need a potable water to drink❤️🙏

I believe it was Manila Water who have mobile water treatment plants and not Maynilad.

@smacktard it would have been great if the government prioritised transporting those mobile treatment plants via air instead of the private company Manila Water looking for ways on how to bring these treatment plants to the affected sites. The treatment plant going to Cebu was even bumped off to give way to someone more important than the treatment plant and water tankers.

I hope you are able to receive some of the assistance now being distributed by the various groups and agencies of government, as well as from private individuals who have continuously been donating aid to the stricken municipalities and cities in the island, as well as in the provinces that have been severely impacted by supertyphoon Odette. I've seen several videos of people receive food packs, water and other donated items to the affected families. I hope you will get your share soon. I've heard a few local celebrities have also donated cash in millions to the LGUs which will go into rebuilding. Don't lose hope and continue keeping the faith because help is there.

Slaven -- No! Just drink the coconut WATER. Drinking a lot of coconut MILK will give you diarrhea. Use coconut milk for cooking only.

There are still a lot to be thankful for. Your family and friends are all safe. There is still a roof over your heads. A lot of the plants and coconut trees are still standing. You are still able to communicate with us. If the people during the war survived it, there is no reason Siargao won't.

I been through such storm, one thing I learned is I don't mind not having electricity even for weeks, just make water available ASAP! One thing though, growing up in the tropics storms comes and go, you fix the damages and life goes on. Just stay safe when it hits.
