Lol I’m a flautist but my band conductor literally showed us that video of circular breathing to “inspire” the trumpets. For once we weren’t focused on the flutes who couldn’t hold the note long enough. But for real, the musician in the video is amazing.

They're those cute little bugs that you find under flowerpots and stuff that roll up when you poke them. Also springtails are tiny, most species are about the size of aphids. Fun fact, neither of them are actually insects haha

I am a tuba player and can do circular breathing. It was difficult to learn but easier on a bigger brass instrument. You can also play chords on a brass instrument. You play a note hum the 5th at the same time and the 3rd will appear. Not sure if you can do it on other wind instruments.

i would like to note that circular breathing is common for reeds/winds and its alot harder for brass as we have to keep airflow strong enough to keep the buzz so that trumpet solo was insane to watch

Easiest way I've had circular breathing explained (and to understand it physically) is to fill your mouth with water. Then, as you breath through your nose, push the water out using your cheeks. Try it in the shower! 😂

Re: Asian parents- my Hispanic father was working musician, mother not- father died, mother allowed music lessons BUT admonished "must support yourself"'; became medical professional, now I am still playing at 76 yrs. old. My son- computer engineer. Went totally techno music. Love your wonderful combination of fine musicality,humor, parent advice, history and psychology.
