I have to admit that I’m a Ben Platt fan myself, but there’s something more convincing about Noah Galvin’s performance as a teenager who struggles with anxiety. Ben build the role around being “quirky but confident”, but Noah performs the role as someone really unsure. I like Noah’s portrayal, too!
I give Noah a lot of credit. Coming in as "Ben Platt's" replacement is the definition of a hard act to follow. He's doing great. He's not Ben but he's doing great. And Laura is just amazing, as usual! :-)
NEWSFLASH: Noah and Ben are two different people!! Noah is an individual person! Can people just stop comparing him to Ben he has a different singing style and a different kind of chemistry with Laura!! And I really love him as Evan!!

Let’s be honest. People complaining about Noah replacing Ben are just not used to change. I bet you if Noah was the original Evan and Ben replaced him they’d say Ben wasn’t as good. People just don’t like change and want to keep it the same as it’s always been.
Not necessarily. I've liked all three actors who portrayed Spider-Man. Each actor brought something different to the character, but Tom Holland is my absolute favorite. Despite not being the original, he did the best job at portraying both Peter and Spider-Man. Concerning DEH, Noah is way too confident here and not nearly vulnerable enough. I'm sure that will change, but he is not inhabiting the character here. I do like his chemistry with Laura, though. He is getting that right in this performance.
I saw the two of them live and really loved it. But I agree with those who say the chemistry isn’t the same as it was with Ben. It sounds nice though, and Noah has definitely gotten better sense I first heard him. When I saw him on broadway he had done a great job of becoming the character.
Yes, Ben and Laura were amazing. But Ben isn't the only guy capable of portraying Evan in a believable way. He is also not the only guy to have amazing chemistry with Laura. Ben was amazing, as is Noah. Ben wanted to go, so let him go.
Ikr I hate it when people think only Ben can play the role. It might take a while for Noah to get used to it and everything but he also plays the role amazingly.
I was one who was extremely anti-Noah based on his past before he stepped into the role. Then I grew up and realized that we all do stupid things sometimes, and Ben explicitly endorsed him for the part. Now, as to the signing- Noah is doing DIFFERENT harmony at 3:44. And I absolutely LOVE it!! This is why I have seen Wicked 17 times. I truly appreciate people coming into a role that people have associated with the original actor and then doing little things to make it their own. Bravo, Noah!
It's amazing to see how many people Laura has had this duet with, and the different portrayals of Evan and the unique chemistry they have with Laura. :)
i love his voice ! but i will admit i think the chemistry is off. but also you can never know until you see the full show. my friend saw it last week and said that the chemistry was fine in the performance! obviously not like ben & laura's who have been working together for years on the show; different, but still amazing!
-The siren in the background is rUINING THE MOMENT - Laura. -(I have the book) There's a great note talking about the mutual trust between Ben and Laura, so that they're able to open themselves up. I don't think it can be replicated, but this is great! They're great together! - At the 'nobody else', I feel like he kinda went for show. :/ - The instrumental wasn't the usual... would like to hear it like it is in the show. - The last harmonies were so beautiful!
This is so nice. I'm satisfied with Noah, he's just great. Sure his voice is different, but I like that it's different. I'll miss you Ben, but I'm happy that Noah is going to stay. He makes a great Evan and he has a great voice.
He’s really grown into the role. He used to be very forced as Evan but i think he now gets that he doesn’t have to replicate ben in this role and he can do his own thing!! I’m glad he’s more comfortable in the role now and i hope he improves more and more as his time at the music box goes on :D
I didn't expect much out of Noah, cuz I was like "Pfft, Ben's gonna be better." But I was proved wrong, cuz this guy's amazing. *glaring at everyone who says Noah's not as good as Ben.*
No he won't. But no one will ever be the same as Ben that's the whole point. You can't recreate the exact same performance hell Ben can't play the same every night.
That's the beauty of theatre though. It won't be the same, and it never was in the first place. There's no performance that's just like any other, whether or not the cast changes, because it's live. Things happen differently every performance, even if they're subtle to the audience it can make a huge difference to the cast. Different isn't bad, it's just different. Sometimes difference can uncover a new layer of a character that wasn't reached before.
is it just me or does anybody else like Noah Gavin better than Taylor Trensch? Don't get me wrong I think Taylor is good and is definitely believable as Evan, but I guess I just like that Noah and Ben have similar tones. I'll get used to Taylor soon enough though, he is really talented.
The biggest problem with their chemistry that Ben was able to perfect is bringing more emotion into his skill as a singer. I think that's where Noah fall a little. Ben brought the chemistry with Laura in every performance, not just on the big stage, but in front of every audience. Noah's voice is wonderful, but it does not exactly meet the energy and emotion that Laura is bringing.
I don't understand why people can't understand that Ben and Noah is different persons, so stop comparing them. And BTW. Noah fits to the role of Evan Hansen.
JUST PUT WARDS! Of course people know they are different people....that's kind of obvious. And shame on you for trying to oppress people's opinions. They both played evan Hansen, so of course people are going to enjoy some things that ben did more than Noah and vice versa. Ben had more emotion and actually had a part in making evan hansen so it'd be dumb not to think that since he was the original that he wouldn't set the standard. Just like idina menzel was the first elphaba. Think before you make comments that make you look foolish.
Can people like fucking stop talking about how Ben and Noah are two different people like no shit but people have seen Ben play Evan longer so it will take some getting used to chill guys fucking be more chill
