Chomsky's political analyses are mostly brilliant. But his claim here (at 12 mins) that his own institution, MIT, did not conduct war research is rather misleading. See my article, 'Chomsky at MIT: Between the war scientists and the anti-war students', at: libcom.org/history/chomsky-mit-between-war-scientists-anti-war-students-chris-knight See also: libcom.org/history/chomsky-war-research-mit

Do you mean @12 when he says the department he worked in at MIT was 100% funded by the Pentagon?

Aren't we so fortunate to Noam Chomsky to explain U.S. Foreign Policy? After all, who could possibly be better qualified to discuss this important topic, than a career Linguistics Professor, with ZERO Real World Experience in Government, International Affairs, Diplomacy, or Military matters! This makes perfect sense-Right??? UGH-It is a tragedy that anybody actually takes this ridiculous old man seriously! SMH

Oh yes, we are way better with a clown as the president of the US, blaming all the problems that 2 corporate corrupted political parties have done to this country on poor people that are coming here looking for a miserable job. We are way better expending most of our tax dollars in fucking bombs thanks to all those great brains that are running this country. By the way, who are you, put a link to that video where you gave a conference to a crowd in Europe or show your credentials as master on anything. What a great observation of Chomsky you have " ridiculous old man" yes he is old, but after he is gone, many people are going to keep reading, talking and looking for him... who's going to remember you ???

He has experience with local governmental groups all over the world. As well as diplomacy. Hes more well read and more well traveled than most people. And who would you rather have explain it to you? The people whose salaries and jobs and positions of power depend on it continuing?

@bandera001 and Draven Cheatum, No that is incorrect: Merely reading or writing or speaking about Government, does NOT constitute real experience actually working IN Government! Any more than merely reading or writing or speaking about pro football constitutes real experience playing or coaching for an NFL team! And so the more, ' corrupt ', that Chomsky THINKS that our Policy Makers have been all these years, then the Worse that this makes Chomsky himself look, for never seeking a Policy Making Position Himself, and-with his superior wisdom-Show he can do better! Instead of spending his life merely complaining from the sidelines! Which is Worthless! Regardless if some misguided people, ' remember ', it! Smh

@@mck1972 actually this is incorrect... And laughable. It's clear you know very little about the man. He does not "merely write" about geopolitics and the state of the status quo, the guy has been actively engaged in activism of almost every type as well as directly attempting to fight injustice through official means. I don't really care to educate you on the man but suffice to say he's much more qualified to "complain" than you or I. I'm also not trying to suck the guy off but what you think of his words and opinions has no bearing on the validity of what he says (which is mostly indisputable). You're just wrong in general really. At what point has valid political skeptism and commentary ever left the lips of a career politician or general?? Becoming a politician is a choice, as such the vast majority have goals tied to their own self interest. Not to mention politicians and generals are legally required to not disclose the truth in many instances. Even if they were permitted to speak freely to the public the vast majority wouldn't. If you need some context, just look at declassified documents surrounding controversial policies and actions of the past and things get real clear. Again there really isn't much to disagree with what Chomsky says half the time, what exactly do you take issue with? I assume one thing is the corruption of US officials, but what else do you call it when elected officials don't represent anyone but shareholders and the wealthy. Entirely ignoring two thirds of their own constituents simply because they don't produce enough capital. Corruption is part of the game my friend, it is an essential part of the economy.

@@P.L.U.C.K. , (SIGH) No actually everything I stated is in fact 100% accurate. It is you yourself that needs to be, ‘ educated ‘. So please pay closer attention: Chomsky is a Linguistics Professor who has never worked in, nor ever accepted responsible for, any other field-Whether Government, or Economics, or anything else, and whose criticisms of others all have the luxury of exploiting Hnidsight-Hindsight which those whom Chomsky critiicizes did NOT have at the time! So claiming that Chomsky is qualified to judge others in fields that he has never worked in himself, just because he can recite selected data about those fields, with the luxury of Hindsight, is just as absurd as claiming that because Chomsky can watch video of last week’s NFL game, and point out what the losing team did wrong, this makes Chomsky qualified to judge the performance of the players & coaches on the field! See how ridiculous your reasoning is? Moreover, what a Linguistics Professor THINKS constitutes, ‘ corruption ‘, and THINKS constitutes, ' injustice ', is in reality just as worthless as what a Law Enforcement Officer THINKS constitutes bad syntax! And so the Worse that Chomsky THINKS that our Policy Makers have acted all these years, then the Worse that this makes Chomsky himself look, for never seeking a Policy Making Position Himself, and-with his superior wisdom-Show he can do better! Instead of spending his life merely complaining from the sidelines about fields that he has never had the guts to actually work in himself-Which is everything outside Linguistics-Like the ridiculous Armchair Critic that he is! THIS is the truth about Chomsky! So please open your eyes to this truth! And so IF You Yourself knew as much actual truth about Chomsky as I do, then you would know the actual truth that nothing Chomsky has ever said, done, or written, has ever had any Direct, Measurable, Verifiable, influence, on any issue facing this country-Ever! (Outside Linguistics) So please put more effort into opening your eyes to this actual truth about Chomsky, and less effort into misguided and misinformed attacks against those of us who actually know what we are talking about! SMH

Chomsky I love you, but you need to read Capital so that you will stop saying that what exists today is not remotely close to capitalism. sheesh.

I think he is referring to a state-capitalist society in which the technology is funded and developed in the state sector but the profits are privatized. In a capitalist society those who invested in that technology, meaninf the people, would have got the profits, not Bill Gates.
