Americans must realise that their country cannot retain exceptionalism without the moral high ground, and it loses this moral high ground when a president is by definition not a war criminal simply because he is an American president. I hope and pray that Americans can grasp the opportunity to retain their greatness by a return to the rule of law and a literal beating of swords and shields into plow shears. We have a lot of work to do, but it can be painless with the right leadership and inspired decision making.
Mr Sea Turtle America and the civilized tradition of rule of law and government by the people and for the people, has earned it the reputation of being responsible and responsive to the dictates of justice and human rights. The coup in America by the military industrial complex fueled by the criminal Illuminati banksters and their Nazi Zionist whore media has destroyed this. America is no more... Unless the people can take back their country and the rule of law, America will fail dramatically and bring us all down. This is of course what your masters want... Unless Americans can wake up and grow a pair...
I'm not really sure (exactly) where you're coming from, but this sounds analogous to 'we're losing the country...' As for justice and human rights, you seem delude(?). The US, at the end of WW2, had about half the wealth of the world and thought it out to own the world because of this. Its Imperial agenda in the last 60 years (masquerading as a democratic liberator) has actually earned the country the reputation, rightful, as first place for terrorist aggression on other countries. Further, the US does not recognize the UN Charter for invading other countries, is a gross repeater of war crimes and it does not recognize the international war crimes tribunal. How you maintain its a leader in in justice and human rights makes me suspicious of your post.
it's interesting to recognize that we are living through a time where the current dominant empire of the world has more control than any preceding empires in history. 1000 years from now (if humans can last this long), this period of time will be looked back on in a similar fashion as we today look back on the romans during the height of their power. i dont think it's recognized how significant and unique a position the US has in world history, and as somewhat of a history buff, i find it fascinating to speculate on what future generations will think about the US when they study it's rise, and inevitable fall.
***** oh for sure it will be called an empire. US historians dont call it an empire because because of their definition of an empire is different from mine. they believe an empire is something where one nation conquers another and forces that nation under the government purview of the conquering nation. the US empire uses local governments who answer to the US to control countries, so it isnt simply "this is ours now do as your told", but rather "this is ours now so let's install some leaders who will do what they're told". the definition currently held, imo, is antiquated, and needs updating.
Lucky someone has a good memory as we as a society seem to have an extremely short memory- you know we tend to keep voting for the same bunch of criminals...
It's not that people believe the criminal in horizontal stripes is good. It's that they believe the criminal in an orange jump suit is worse. People don't vote for politicians they believe in; they overwhelmingly vote for "least harmful"; except of course the majority who doesn't vote.
Politians thrive under one condition, that people like them. They need that. Else they will be thrown away in any fair democracy worth preserving. Please blow up my balls with a shotgun if i'm wrong. ( I mean it please let me know if you have better thoughts on the subject)
Thank you Mr. Chomsky for always sharing your wisdom! I have all your books and have seen most of your talks which helped me understand the world a lot better! ❤️❤️❤️ May you always have the strength to keep going! ❤️❤️❤️
@@lukeabers3882 exactly. 2008 was when I woke up and since then I have been unable to get back to sleep. This is why I feel sad about the comming election. Millions still dreaming about this or that politician coming to save them.
Sage Mantis _"People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like"_ is not a George Carlin quote. It's from Clive Hamilton who wrote the book _Growth Fetish_.
America's drive for profit at all cost, we see the transfer of production to China to increase short term profit. However the contradictions then set in, we see a rise in profits for the few but the loss of Americas industrial base. The rich get richer but at a cost of the economic strength of the country. So we see the spectacle of an outcry regarding the rise of Chinas industrial and military capacity as a direct consequence of Americas economic policy/free trade !
Alan Stein not to mention abuses the Chinese people Look at apple corporation that abuses the Chinese people by using them to mass produce their products

I am amazed at the level of disparity that exist, but more so the mechanisms used to advance this practices, as a student of History in Nigeria, I am mind blown on how poorly we were thought History, mainly because of this continued indoctrination of western ideas, as everything we educated was and has always been from the western angle, hence trying to pattern our lifestyle, politics and economy, to a system inherently designed to keep us weak. I wish he screamed more, because the gravity of his revelations truly deserves a more aggressive posture, God Bless him.
chomaky scares me. I dont want to believe a word he says because it makes me sad to realise how dark the world really is... how little we know about the powers that rule it.... and the terrible truth that you can't believe anyone or anything. :/
"Real progress of the truly Spiritual kind" does actually from above. The rest belongs to hell... Is Chumpsky a chum of Satan Yahoo burning in the Heat?!
The purported values of American cultural mythology, such as equality, justice, human rights and democracy have become an exceedingly Yeti like phenomenon - murmurs of sightings but seldom seen.
before accusing anyone of terrorism one must be careful because "terrorism" has be very well defined. Many-a-time, US foreign policy goes against the wishes of the population of a country that tries to influence. One must recall that in the past the US senate tried to pass anti-terrorism laws BUT thier high priced lawyers stated that the US would be in violation of said law! If that does not open your eyes then I do not know what will.
Settling in for an hour and a bit of needle sharp analysis but you start all wrong. Noam! Adam Smith's interest was in Great Britain, (he was a Scot like me) not England. I mention this in the interest of accuracy, not national pride.
Oh man I watched right through waiting for the " way forward" part- But no, no ray of hope to be found. Also why does this only have 300K views? This is required knowledge
Western society is inundated in a sleep-like dream state. The American Dream, that's why. Better it doesn't get so many view or the powers that be will find a way to take the video down.
On the environment...why don't we, the people, just side step the government? If Congress can't decide what to do, why doesn't some brain at MIT or Harvard or some place like that put out a list saying "do this and don't do that"? We don't need the government to recycle, reuse, respect nature, drive an energy efficient car, etc. We should be hearing these things all of the time instead of wasting our time on celebrities and sports figures. When did we start needing the government's blessing on absolutely everything?
Because the corporations don't care and won't follow those advice. Only the government is powerful enough to enforce the rules. It is at the corporate level that counts, the effect of individual choices have little impact when compared to the global reach of the corporations. Also, you can't drive these "energy efficient cars" when the corporations don't MAKE them in the first place. That's part of the problem, there aren't enough choices for individuals to make a difference when the corporations offer limited selection based on what's most profitable - not what's best for society or the world.
My sole wish is that Prof. Chomsky were a more exciting speaker. He just doesn't show enough enthusiasm for his subjects from the platform for me. The two most exciting speakers I witnessed while on the East Coast were Prof Roman Jakobson of Harvard and Prof. Kenneth Mills, then of Yale University. Both quite mesmerizing speakers.
he's getting too old and a bit tired out. can't blame him for sounding bored of his own message sometimes, he's been hammering away at this for 50 years, and the media treats him like a pariah

43:20 "we don't refer to the rich as the rich anymore we refer to them as job creators, of course, they don't create any jobs but that's how we refer to them". If only we all looked at it like that. The rich actually prevent job creation in the US by paying themselves high percentages of their company's profits, and paying lower wages than they should.
Why the CEO's should have yearly income more then 1 millon dollars? Just imagine CEO making $20 million a year! How many cars you can put in there, or gallons of gas or milk?
This was in 2012. You have to ask yourself what has changed significantly for the better, and have we addressed Any of the issues Noam Chomsky raises? The Arctic ice could all melt as early as the summer of 2016. Our demise as a species is inevitable, and will arrive much faster than we could possibly imagine. You might as well find a good seat and enjoy the show. Some things are just out of our control.
Socialism is not the problem. The real problem is Sanctions which have proven to be a weapon of mass destruction overtly employed by USA to kill people in Socialistic states including CUBA.
I can't work out if he's referring to England or Britain. In 1776 there was and still is a country called England, but it belongs to Britain, along with Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Incidentally, Adam Smith was Scottish.

If Arab nations and the USA wanted to solve the conflict it would be very easy, just absorb the "palestinians" into Egypt, Jordan, Israel and the USA. These speakers are most always interesting but are never going to change the world cause humans are so easy to mmislead and confuse.Just give them a cookie.
World isn't changed by singular people, but by collective action. That is why the number one advertized virtue in capitalism is "individualism" - because if you don't team up with fellow human beings, you will be taken advantage of by those who have no qualms about uniting forces - the rich and the government!
the thing about Noam Chomsky is that I keep seeing him speak in front of audiences who already see eye to eye with him. That's nice but if he's going to make a bigger difference he needs to talk directly to the Rush Limbaugh crowd way way more.
+thank*reason He provides others such as those in the audience, such as you and me, with the sources and facts we need to spread the message. He saves other speakers and investigative journalists a lot of time.
