i remember the day i first listened this song and it moved so much, that i often remember it with such affection, it is one of the most emotional piece of music i have ever listened to.

I'm a modern style guitar nerd who just clicked on one of Noam's reverb videos when I was bored. I was not prepared to discover music like this. This song is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard and the skill and technique needed to play this is so humbling, I didn't know it was possible to play a stringed instrument like this.

well that was just utterly beautiful. The double picked notes with thumb and finger create this harp like feel that's so floaty and ethereal. Love it!

I have a brilliant student who showed me this tune and I have it cracked in theory. We figured out the roll and now the chords are straight forward. Not they we can play it yet, not even close but it is fun to deconstruct and at least try. Noam is so amazing, I've been hearing about him long before he was famous. Colby Maddox would talk about him all the time. The first time I saw him live my jaw was dropped.

How is he doing that double note ripple? Is it a downstroke of the thumb with an upstroke of the index finger? Might need to make a recording and slow it right down, haha. Such wonderful playing. Will definitely be picking up the banjo this eve.

Unlike everyone destroying their instruments, I'm going to use this glowing piece of musicality to rekindle the fires of inspiration, and suck in the bitter smoke of inevitable failure on my way down a dark road. Who knows if it leads to "success", but at least it's forward, and ultimately it will be worth the effort. If not only for self discovery and the unveiling of my limitations, then to work within my limitations to find something magical. Join me! Pick up that untamed wooden creature, and march once more into the Breech! ...that is, if your hands don't hurt too much from trying that one chord voicing...

Does anyone who enjoys playing basketball or football or any other sport ever give it up when they see a top professional make an amazing play? Do young, fit people give up running or skiing after watching the Olympics? Or should the old and creaky hang up their shoes, rackets, or skates? I don’t know why amateur musicians continue to post Comments about giving up or destroying their instruments. Amateurs of all kinds can appreciate what the professionals do even more than those who have never tried it. E. Ed - you have exactly the right attitude!

I can't play this tune and it pisses me off. There is one chord that I can't voice. I thought I could be the best banjo player in the World until I heard Noam, and others as I have progressed and realize my 6 hours a day practice, is not enough, now my hands are giving out, my elbows shot, and in not even close to my goals. Shit, do I continue? Give up? The only thing I can do is keep teaching and and performing with no expectations of recognition, getting treated like shit from the clubs, and making other people money with my work and talent. It's a fucked up reality.

So much speed and strength in reserve, he's always able to shape the repeated note top line as it moves. It would be so easy for a less mature artist to toss this off all glib and with no shape. Worse, one of those old guys who lived on his reputation and psyching youngsters out and murdering Bach at half speed because he has so little respect for his public that he can't be bothered to prepare properly cause if they buy him they have cloth ears and why bother.
