The road to the structure of the ribosome: A personal account
"The ribosome is the large macromolecular machine that translates the genetic code into protein in all life forms. Since its discovery in the 1950s, it has been the subject of intensive study in many labs world wide. In the last decade, the structures of the atomic subunits and subsequently of the whole ribosome trapped in different stages of translation have revolutionized our understanding of the process. In this talk I will discuss some early approaches to the structure of the ribosome, the difficulties we encountered in our crystallography of the 30S subunit and finally discuss how the ribosome facilitates the accurate decoding of the genetic message."

Presented by UCSD Division of Biological Sciences in conjunction with the Clifford Grobstein Memorial Lecture Series.

What makes Venki a great scientist? Go to 44:00 and listen. He readily accepts new development proving him wrong rather than defending his position rendered antiquated and incomplete by this new development. Sometimes, the scientists close their mind, which is luckily not the case with Venki.

This, quite simply, is the greatest video I have ever seen. Dr. Ramakrishnan is my hero.

If RF3 were to be discovered ,it is recommended that it would not have been possible without the conformation hybridization of the pair of false polypeptide chains which is both shorter and longer than the other walking legs attached to an antenna causing mis-sense mutation in ants not in association with ant archeae. How was it good for the correct conformation folded properly in tripedal normal ant gait seems like mystery of the ribosome-ribozyme mutations.
