Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, and more cast and crew break down the historical significance and role of the two prominent houses in the series: the Velaryons and the Hightowers.

It’s honestly refreshing to learn more about different Houses other than just the Starks, Lannisters, Baratheons, Greyjoys and such. When you learn more about Houses Velaryon and Hightower, you honestly get to see what their beliefs are like and what motivates them behind the moves and actions they make when playing the game of thrones
What do we really know about the starks and lannisters? The starks were westeros long before the hightowers and the targaryens. If it wasn't for the Starks, Westeros would have been overrun with white walkers and wright's. I still want a story about the starks of old, Brandon the builder, Theon the hungry wolf, and how they defeated the White walkers the first time with no dragons. How did Brandon the builder build that wall and what was the pact between the first men and the children of the forest? There are so many unanswered questions about the Starks and we need a story on them. Where did the Starks come from originally? How were they able to maintain power for 8,000 years? We need answers and I would also like to see the origins of Lann the clever and Valyria at the height if her power
@@MajorMlgNoob no I need answers. We know the targaryens story. It's time to explore the histories of the other families in Westeros like the starks and the hightowers.
Yes... yes.... put your faith in HBO to give you and interesting TV show. Surely they won't use that power they have over you and screw you over... two times in a row...
@@FirefulXD You’re forgetting that the mother of the tyrell kids was a high tower and also the lord commander of the kingsguard during the reign of the mad king was a high tower
sure but they're irrelevant enough that nobody who hasn't read the books has heard of them. i know the books are a thousand times more detailed than the show, and that it's virtually impossible to exterminate every blood relation of an entire house.
In southern Europe and the Mediterranean though, there were. Anything to do with the sea I love, so it's very beautiful. It reminds me of the Phoenicians, especially that gorgeous mural.
Such a good cast for these characters, so excitedly to get more ASOIAF, regardless of the previous series, this is its own thing and I'm just happy to get such high-tier production. "The Queen that never was" is going to be a fun favourite.
One thing I find is that many people especially casual show watchers might not know the difference between a great house of which there are only 9 (e.g.Targaryen, Stark Lannister) and a noble house of which there are hundreds (e.g. Hightower, Velaryon). It's one of the distinctions I really hope to see come out
@@namekhussein549 House Hightower was still a vassal of House Tyrell, the Lords Paramount of the Mander, but they were uniquely powerful considering they weren't a Great House because of the might of Oldtown, their ties to the Faith and proximity to the Citadel.
Watching these promos, and reading Fire and Blood, all the while having the Targaryen Lineage / family tree out for reference. I want to go into this show following these complicate-ass relationships and I think I’m finally getting it 😂
When Corlys says that history does not remember blood, it remembers names" he is talking about that he is happy to pretend that Rhaenyras sons are Valeryans as long as one of them succead her.
If I'm the richest man in the realm, I would not have been okay giving my wealth, fleet, and titles away to my daughter in laws bastard. Luke would have probably inherited Driftmark one day.
@@iangallagher5448 Rumor has it, Jace also broke his agreement and married a Stark girl. If that's true, I'm sure Corly's would have probably had enough of being played by the Targaryens.
I like the focus will be on different house from the GOT series like in real history the power of some house on the others change with the time. I excited we will spend time with those houses.
The Starks, Lannisters, Baratheons, and Arynns are still important in the story and hold the same domains that they do in the original show (save for the Baratheons as they only hold the Stormlands and not the crownlands)
Was expecting her to say "to have someone always reminding you it should have been you is horrible/toxic" Her: "its fantastic, that is a perfect example of a strong relationship"
the advantage of House of the Dragon is that the books that this serie take place is done. while The Original GOT books werent finish and the director make up their own shit from season 5 and foward.
@@Regenmacher175 From the words of George himself "I never thought they would catch up with me, but they did. They caught up with me and passed me" also he stated the GOT directors took different Direction Than He Intended.. Also he recently stated "Martin says he was "out of the loop" on season 5 and beyond"
I'm from tomorrow and believe me first episode is amazing, I felt that after a long time, thieves' hands and rapists' d**ks are being cut off any stuff like that is going on
1:23 It might sound like he's misquoting the show, but the idea that 200 years of middling to terrible targaryen rule (from that point on), warped the original saying, is pretty interesting
@@HisameArtwork The GoT version is essentially saying the Hand cleans up the king's mess. The book version is saying the Hand does the dirty work while the king enjoys his power.
@@michaelhenry3234 Okay that makes more sense actually. Cos the GOT version sounds like it's saying all hands are constantly cleaning up after incompetent (or incontinent) kings, whereas the book version is recognising that no matter what kind of king it is, there's always dirty work to be done. I like that.
2:01 i always wodered how they going to differentiate the pronounciation of “velaryons” and “valyrians” . now i got the answer. now say those words 10 timez quickly 😂😂😂
If they did get the casting right then this will be another amazing show With Game of thrones the cast was perfect n they delivered the roles. Even with the draagons n all the fight scenes the actor still has his presence.
@@queenanneboleyn6848 Which is not a torch - it is a beacon. A torch is a flame carried by hand (think Indiana Jones). Not a guiding light that can be seen for miles . . .
I’ve never watched game of thrones, but my dad was one of the sculptors on this series, so I’m watching it for his work. Do any fans know of a tree with a face or what it might be called? My dad has told me that was his work and he sculpted the face based on his mother :)
It’s the great white tree with red leaves. It’s a holy symbol to those who follow the Old Gods. It’s said the ancient Children of the Forest could see through them.
@@ParanoidYoshi I’ve just looked it up after seeing this comment (couldn’t find any pictures last time I looked) and it does look like my grandma, and I have the same nose as well :) Unfortunately I don’t have much contact with my dad, but the next time I call him I shall let him know that people are admiring his work!
