This does take the cake for the rarest Wimpy Kid book. I have spent literally YEARS looking for this specific version of the book and have always turned up empty handed. I got extremely lucky yesterday, however and found a copy for $7 at a local Half Price Books. They probably didn't know what they were selling, because I only saw that book twice. Once at my local Middle School library and another time on eBay for $200. It took me since 2008 to find a copy. Seriously. Good luck to anyone looking to try and find one! But yeah, this really is the rarest Wimpy Kid book.

I had this one. I know that for a fact! I remember the back having that sliver of paper saying "Don't expect me to be all Dear Diary this and Dear Diary that." As a side note, I am also in possession of a misprinted copy of Cabin Fever, where some of the pages weren't printed properly.

I have a pretty old Wimpy Kid book. So old that Rodrick Rules was "coming soon" but it's still not as old as this one. Nice job finding it!

If a remember correctly, my High School had 2 1st Wimpy Kid books. They weren’t some of the first ones ever, but the inside only went up to book 3 on the list

For anyone trying to collect first editions of any of the Wimpy Kid books, I have a couple tips for you. 1. As stated in the video, every book up to Wrecking Ball will have no blue bars of text if it's first edition. Deep End onwards will have the text, unless it's a print from another country. 2. Books 1, 2, and 3 will have text on the front cover (NOT the blue bars). They say "a novel in cartoons", "Sequel to the #1 New York Times Bestseller", and "Sequel to the #1 New York Times Bestsellers" respectively. This is blue (book 1) and red (books 2-3) text in Greg's handwriting. 3. Books 4-14 will have absolutely no text or blue bars saying "x million books sold" or "The #1 New York Times Bestseller" on them. It will be a clean cover with none of that text anywhere. 4. Books 15 onwards will have the "x million books sold" text, but that's not the end of the world. On the back cover, all the books are listed. 5. For books 1-3, the pricetag on the back with the barcode will list prices for US, CA, and UK. Book 4 and onward don't have that. 6. For Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid, "The #1 New York Times Bestseller" text will NOT be at the top of the front cover. 7. For the UK prints, the back cover has all the books listed on the back most of the time. There are some odd ones out but generally, they will have the books listed on the back, even the very first print has "Catch Greg again in: (Rodrick Rules cover)". What's nice about the UK prints is that they have their own unique illustrations on the spine that the US versions don't have. For example, Rodrick Rules is a toilet paper roll and The Last Straw is a soccer ball. The US version just has the number of the book. Regarding UK prints, they also have exclusive versions that have stickers or board games or stuff like that in them, and they're printed on the cover. These exclusives are printed from The Third Wheel onwards. 8. UK paperbacks are an interesting case. Some prints were printed very late so that the next book in the series was revealed. These include Dog Days and Cabin Fever, so if you see those two books listing the next book, don't worry! Those were just printed late. 9. The Last Straw's UK paperback print is actually a bit of a defect since it doesn't have the soccer ball on its spine. It doesn't have the number 3 either. This print will have four red bars of text, which is actually sort of cool. It will say, "International Bestseller Over 16 Million Copies Sold". The "x books sold" has actually been done way earlier than you might think! 10. Just an extra, it's not a first edition or anything but The Last Straw has one print that says "The #1 Bestseller!", so that's pretty cool. Why does The Last Straw have a billion editions of itself? I dunno. Maybe they were experimenting with advertising at the time and The Last Straw went through a lot of puberty. Good luck to any collectors out there :)

I actually have a different copy of the 1st book than both the ones you showed, mine has the original back and while there is blue text on the front, mine says NYC bestseller, it also had Nick Choice Awards sticker but I peeled that of years ago. It doesnt have the books on the back but it has them listed inside up until Double Down

I think you should get the cabin fever one where at the first page there is a note saying how it was made in 2 snowstorms while writing the book with it being signed by Jeff Kinney

My brother had a book like that but it was soft cover and he bought rodrick rules too at his middle school book fair and on the back of that one it had the 3 books and it said coming soon on the last straw

Correction: that book probably isn't the first printing, but one of the first (in 2007) because a random guy can't randomly get the first copy the first books obviously don't have the thing saying "over 250 million sold" because they update the book consistent with the number of books sold yeah i can't word my reasoning

My School Library has the original one. Tha-That's actually startling when you think about it, because that means that this book is even older than me.

I actually found this. My nephew's grandma took it away from him bc he is little, and she found "dirty" stuff in it. I also have 3, 4, and 5th original ones. The Rodrick Rules one was actually bought new at Target. But the 2nd OG one was at my local middle school library.

I found another rare diary of a wimpy kid book. It was small than the regular book and the font in side the book was different. The book was hard pluck, but I couldn’t get it because it was my schools

I have the same same thing except it says the international best selling series. The lines are thicker and the back doesn’t have any of the books and mines is 2016 copy

My cover says "New York Times Bestseller" and only the second book was out at the time I bought it.

I have a similar copy. It says number one new york times bestseller, and doesnt have the rest of the released books on the back. Though, it does belong to my older sister.

I know that later printings of the first book said "The #1 New York Times Bestseller" on the front. My copy is a 26th printing, purchased around Dec 2009. Though inside only lists "other books" up to The Last Straw. Rodrick Rules and The Last Straw early copies both had a blurb on the cover that said "Sequel to the #1 New York Times Bestseller". My copy of Rodrick Rules is a 20th printing (purchased Nov 2009), has a "The #1 New York Times Bestseller" blurb on it, and says "Next in the Series: DOAWK5 inside". My copy of The Last Straw is an 8th printing (recieved for Christmas 2009), and features a different blurb that just says "The #1 Bestseller". Inside it states "Next in the Series: DOAWK4". I know later pressings had the "The #1 New York Times Bestseller" blurb. All my copies starting with Dog Days are first printings (though millions of first printings seem to have been printed for those). Though I recall that up to like 2017, later pressings of these also had the "The #1 New York Times Bestseller" blurb. The whole "Over X Million Books Sold", along with all the pictures of the other books on the back, was not until 2017.

Somehow I have the ORIGINAL Wimpy Kid book. While I was looking for these books Someone was selling books 1-6 of the Wimpy Kid books for $5. Once it came I saw all the books that came in but I was Exteremely Lucky. Because the first book was the ORIGINAL book!
