There are some basic things tho, like the french ballet terminology is universal, it's literally like a dictionary. Tap is mostly the same, most steps only have one name, no matter which country you are in. There are certain things that vary, but very often it's based on studios not using the actual terminology.
Delaney Keck has f they want to be professional dancers and if they want to work for Abby, they’re going to have to learn the terminology 🤷♀️ the old Junior Elite team had to and they would be screamed at if they got it wrong. This test is very fair compared to what Abby used to do.
Well, half and half. Jumping is English and the other word is French but you don’t need to know the exact meaning of the word to understand the dance move
Andromeda Perseus Huh? That’s like if someone saying they’re good at tennis you’re just soo disappointed if they don’t play like Selena Williams. Why would you compare everyone to the top athletes of the world? That’s so ridiculous - being good means they can do it and you can’t - not having to be a world record holder.
@Fine Textured Italian Canvas+ 'You know how to multiply, right? Well, why don't you just go and join Einstein if you're so fucking smart?' Do you see the logic in that? Do you see why it fails? It is a common known dance fact, that the proper names for the moves are not always what Abby uses. You don't even need to be a dancer to know this; even just by listening, you can tell that a grànde-bàt-mon devong sounds alot different to a 'front kick.' Even though they're the same thing, one is the proper term, and one is not. It's not hard to work out which is which.
@Fine Textured Italian Canvas+ And TV isn't always based off of knowledge- or talent for that matter. The only fields you must tick is drama levels and entertainment value.
These terms are hard, but anyone who has taken a basic class of ballet would know what an echappe is. And a lame duck or a cambre? Those are basic steps!
Some studios that aren't ballet-based teach steps and give them random terms. A studio near me calls a Calypso jump a flying saucer. The kids can do the skill, but ask them to do a calypso and they won't know what you are talking about.
It’s funny how Abby makes fun of savanna for not being as good on her left side while as her old students could barely even do a leap on their wrong side
I don't think her intentions was to "make fun of her" but rather prove a point that her mother shouldn't have brag about her daughter the way she did. Idk just my take on it.
Tbh that’s kinda sad because for the show the kids are literally below the average height for their age and none of them were over 5 feet tall other than Brady and Hannah
I understand where Abby is coming from. I wish I had worked harder on perfecting my terminology in dance training. 1. Abby trains employable dancers that have to know how to pick up quickly and you do that by knowing what steps the choreographer wants you to implement simply by being told not shown. 2. One can't choke when you're at an audition. Albeit I'd be less nervous at most any audition than in front of Abby Lee Miller Lol. 3. She's teaching from a wheel chair. She can't get up and show these kids how to do it. They need to know by what she says. Even with the help of an assistant choreographer, they are learning competitive dances in less than a week.
But what if they don't know what Abby is talking about. You see if they need to know what it is, then they probably had past teachers that told them those terms in the first place. These kids are scared because Abby has yelled at kids way too much. Also, I had a feeling that Abby called one kid dumb in that video.
@@julianafrazure1761 Abby said in season 1 that was the problem she would get with kids coming from other studioset. The kids would learn in metaphors (like the flying saucer leap) from their teachers to make it more fun or easier to understand. But it was wrong. Abby expects her dancers to know about the history and art of dance as well as being able to execute it.
When she asked the girl to do jumping echappés she pronounced it so oddly that I would have never known what to do even though I know my ballet terminology.
When she talked to Savannah about her eyebrows raised I lost it cause that's literally her face😭. Like she doesn't even have her eyebrows raised, her eyebrow shape just makes it look like she has them raised but she doesnt😂
All the moms are so freaking polite and nice during the auditions lol- they compliment and put Abby on a pedestal and take critique without complaint. Once they make the team though... that’s a different story 😂
Abby is using the proper terminology, that terminology has not changed. Ballet terminology is like a literal dictionary, same with tap terminology. The issue is that many studios make up names to explain the steps and help the kids remember them, rather then teaching them the actual name of the steps.
I think ballet and tap terminology is relatively set in stone, but styles like jazz, contemporary and acro that have more freedom in movement, people create different names for things
0:35 I’ve been dancing ballet for 13 years and I didn’t know what that was either 😂 luckily I knew the other ballet terms bud *damn she’s asking HARD questions!!!*
Forget the terminology! I really like Abby with that gorgeous straight hair wig. So much more flattering than the old Abby hairstyle. Can't wait for ALDC to air on British tv. X
Lol y’all are so naive - you have no idea if these kids actually did the move or not. They cut to Abby asking the question, and then cut to a child shaking their head that could have been asked a more complicated question. Notice that they only ever actually showed one of the girls attempting the easier terminologies ONE time and other than it was all edited together. THATS HOW REALITY TV WORKS.
0:55 when Abby called that girl dumb I’m like ...um the only stuff you know are dumb dance terminology stuff that if anything you’d are up with! You dont know anything smart for academic programs so yea.. think before you act.. now that’s a smart thing to do... she never does
Her dance academy is really strict. You obviously don't know abby. She has been teaching kids for a long time and had some difficulties a long the way. She also suffered from sickness, and was in prison for a while. She has a reason to be mad.
"do jumping achappes" "does arabesque soute" "DO YOU KNOW ENGLISH?!" i have been dancing all types of styles of dance for 7 years and i know that ballet is french-
OMG, cannot believe these children didn’t know the terminology. Abby is old school, from the real world of dance! I love how she makes people reverse to the left! Every teacher should do that! The real dancers can get weeded out fast.
Fun fact: I know the girl with red hair, (her name is Camble) and she is sooo good and sweet. I see her at dance competitions and conventions and she is a really awesome dancer.
Oh sister that thumbnail is the definition of the title😂 Edit: CJs real name is corine joy and she was in some if piper Rochelle and Gavin magnus’ videos
Even the 6 year olds at the studio we go to know their terminology because we have to write down the terminology and study it, we used to do a terminology class, now we do the notebooks in ballet
