@@NLY_GH0STpretty sure he meant eurovision but true lmao sometimes it’s funny how some americans literally just don’t know about any non-north-american countries
Germany is in fact in Europe, next to the Netherlands lol. Try history books, you'll see why we in Europe will never forget that. But as for Joost, this song is an ode tot his parents and a letter to his father. His father passed away when Joost was 12, and his mom passed away when he was 13. The lyrics are in fact pretty serious, a serious message wrapped in happy music, until the end, when he gets serious. I love his song and message, I haven't felt this much connected to a Eurovision song as I have with this one. He stole my heart with it, and I really hope the European viewers will understand the song and also love it like I do.
“Try history books…” 😅🤦🏻♀️ 🙈🙉🙊 Am I the only one who thinks this song is a political statement? Maybe someone realized this before the finals, and they disqualified him.
@@stokrotnie7 Are you stupid? This song literally mentions 0 politics apart from freedom of travel for European citizens... Maybe look at Israel's two rejected songs and then say its a political statement.
@@mvdh877niet alleen dat. ik heb gehoord dat de algemene topografische kennis in amerika laag is, omdat de scholen het niet uitgebreid geven. waarom zouden ze? alles is al in amerika, alles wat ze nodig hebben is al in amerika
Exactly. The whole song incorporates elements from happy hardcore, early hardcore and gabber, which originated from the netherlands in the 90s and were hugely influential to all of edm. Amazing to see someone keeping this culture alive and a shame that they disqualified him
@@zyklos229that’s just because the event has been going on since the 1950s where it was still controlled by Britain, in the 80s they went independent, but now they are participating as a “historical” country in the event 😄 - From an American
To be fair how many American states you can name and point on a blind map from head? I can point maybe 8 - 10 on a blind map and name maybe 20? From 52!
The sad fact is that this song got disqualified because of some small thing even though this song was for his parents and how he promised them he would get on Eurovision someday and both parents died after that when he was 12 and 13
This is a song about European Unity and, personally for him, following his dad’s advice and traveling and embracing people from all over Europe. We love you Klein. Europeans are now more united than ever🇪🇺
It doesn't matter where Joost travels or what he's eating, there will always be the pain of missing his parents. Nobody could help him, not even when he paid them. Children should be happy, enjoy their lives, right? What if you're not happy as a kid? What if you have PTSD and you have to wait 2 years to get mental health? Joost's father died when he was 12 and he found his mother 8 months later on the couch. She passed because of a cardiac arrest. With this song he is taking the step to move on with his life. That's the meaning of the fire. Joost shares his fathers wisdom: people invented borders/ boundaries, so you can invent your own world. Father worked as a volunteer with refugees when he was alive. So the song tells us about the pain of grieving but also contains a hopeful message of Europe being a place of freedom and diversity. We are all human beings. Let's come together. Thank you for your reaction! Greetings from Westland, The Netherlands ❤
5:02 He lost both of his parents at a very young age, due to illness. His dad once told him "it's a world without borders" and Joost promised his dad he'd be in the Eurovision Song Contest one day. The picture you see burning is of his childhood
bro at the end he is talking about how is dad told him that he can and will achieve his dreams and is telling his dad that he made it. It is a very depressing part because he lost both his parents due to cancer when he was 7 years old.
His dad died when he was 12 and his mom died when he was 13 and this whole song is a message to his parents and its "europa-pa" because he misses his dad (papa is daddy in dutch)
If you want to hear more 90s gabber/eurodance Dutch music (=from the Netherlands) on which this song was inspired: check out DJ Paul Elstak (he's actually in the video, in the car during the drop, he co-produced), of course 2Unlimited with Get ready for this/Twilight Zone/many more (you'll be saying: whaaaat?? Is this Duuuutch?) . Others from that era: 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, Twenty4 Seven, T-Spoon, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo, Party Animals, and the list goes on. Also some German artists who had big hits (Scooter, Marusha). I grew up with this music and still listen and dance to it......and I'm almost 50 🙂. And yes, this song by Joost (pronounced "Yoast") is an absolute banger!!! Can't wait for his performance tomorrow. Oh and by the way....there are loooads of great dance festivals in the Netherlands. a bit of background on Gabber music: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0ld64OrTUB8.html&ab_channel=MindprinterOfficial (all genres) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DJhSzb7Zw54.html&ab_channel=VICENederland
both his parents died when he was a kid, they died in a 1 year span and his father died due to cancer and his mom due to a heart attack. he was 12-13 at the time so he was taken care of by his siblings
Joost Klein is a great entertainer, you should watch his live performance at lowlands festival (and maybe react to it). It for sure is worth to watch. That guy can perform and get the crowd moving man, it’s insane!
For context I’m from Europe and the message is basically that Europe is starting to break apart with the war in Ukraine and the whole song is about that Europe should unite together
He legit got belgium confused with the netherlands, there's a ton of edm artists from the netherlands, like afrojack, tiesto, armin van buuren, hardwell, nicky romero, and ofc dj paul elstak Also, fun fact, the genres hardcore and gabber were invented in rotterdam, the netherlands
Im dutch, the music you heard at the end is called “Hardstyle” the dancing style is called “hakken”, it roughly translates to “heeling” because you kinda stomp the ground with your heels. The outfits and the people would call themselves “gabbers” or buddy’s in english. Next to that there is also a big EDM and Techno community, a shared love with our german brothers and sisters
some dutch artist working in the EDM scene including some oldies: Afro Jack, Tiësto, Showtech, Armin van Buuren, 2Unlimited, Venga Boys and I am sure I'm forgetting about some big ones. As this genre is not my bread and butter. Largest EDM festival is in Amsterdam, Tomorrow Land in Belgium is amazing as well.
for everyone who didnt know it as he was a kid his dad died to cancer and his mom had a hearth attack and they died both thats why the end with the fire
(please pin this) So the story in the outro is he lost his parents when he was young and his dad always told him that the world has no borders but that it’s only in ones head. He uses the idea of traveling around europe that he is trying to escape from the pain of the dead of his parents. But you will always carry that with you even though you go to different countries. In the end he dedicates the song to his father. And with that says goodbye to his grieving of losing both his parents. Putting an end to his sadness. In europapa the papa also means dad in dutch. I think others can explain it better but hope this helps! But don’t worry he is pro Europe. It’s an ode to Europe and his dad.
4:20 the style of dance you were referring to is called hakken its a very common dutch dance that you will most likely see people dance like this when played harcore music or any kind that sounds abit like joost klein also the way you say his name is like toast but the remove the t and replace it with a j wich makes it joast klein and klein like calvin klein
