I agree with you, he's super edgy the whole film, but I don't think this theme really hit home because we never actually see him get hurt. Like I get the movie is trying to be like "he's hurting on the inside" but my man is tanking bullets left and right like he's superman, and despite all the things that happen to him in the film, he basically just shakes it all off like it's nothing. It's hard to have this theme of self destruction if it isn't really shown. I think you could even apply this on a more emotional scale. Like he's clearly very depressed and having trouble emotionally, but we don't see his behavior affecting his relationships really. By the end of the movie he's "got the girl" and everything seems to be on the up and up, but that's not because he changed anything about himself.... it just, you know, happened XD
@@nattteo I hear you, definitely agree w what you’re saying. I think we do get small bits and pieces of that in the film, although it’s very subtle. Like when we see Bruce in the bat cave and his back is all scarred and bruised, or when he retaliates against Alfred like an angsty teen saying “you’re not my father”. Maybe if we saw more of these repercussions it could’ve hit that idea home a little harder. I personally enjoyed the subtleties of the film and what it had to offer, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of Bruce’s character in this aspect as well.
@@nattteo tbh this whole "he changed something inside himself/learned something, so he could solve the problem at the end" is an overused formula and I wouldn't blame the plot for not repeating it.
@@nattteo I mean by the end the dude has to inject himself with whatever weird chemical to be able to keep moving. He definitely got hurt and we see it. Or when he eats shit with the wing suit. Or hell, the whole sequence where he ends up unconcious in the GCPD because a bomb exploded on his face.
The thing about him being the “weakest” Batman is because he’s young and reckless. He’s been the Batman for two years and only by the end of the movie he understand his role as more important than this vigilante guy that scares people. He’s building to be strong and smart, so he’s not the best at it yet and I think that’s amazing.
Tbh I think it makes sense for Batman to not be super buff. In order to build a lot of muscle he would have to: use steroids, sleep 8 hours a day while eating chicken and broccoli 5 times a day. I could see Pattinson's Batman sleeping through the day because he is an heir, but how would Bale's Batman have a good sleep while he is a business man by day AND fights crime by night?
@@AmandaVieiraMamaesouCult what people don’t realize is that he likely did all of these with exception of the steroids- I guarantee he was pretty focused with diet and exercise. Steroids play a massive factor in the physiques of superheroes and fan favs like Thor and Captain America wouldn’t be nearly as big as they are on screen without chemical assistance.
Weirdly enough his feats in this movie far outshine Bale’s fighting scenes in the nolan trilogy. You actually get the sense he’s a master martial artist I mean he barely struggled with fighting goons except for the dude who just blasted his shotgun in his chest. Batman easily overpowers a few guys at once. Bale just flailing his elbows around always looked stupid to me. Ben and Rob had far better choreography.
I kinda love how ppl look at Batman like he’s a weirdo when he’s present during the crime scene because think about it in a real life scenario. If some regular person dressed like in all-black, with a cape, and a mask symbolizing an animal, walked into the room to examine a crime scene wouldn’t you look at them side ways too
Listen, if I'm a police officer in the shitshow that is Gotham, and my superior decides to bring his furry boyfriend to an investigation, I'm gonna mind my business
I would say both,I wore a Harry Potter Gryffindor robe and a red cloak in public (it was during high school took lol)and my classmates deffently looked at me weirdly...So I understand Batman kinda and why onlookers would look at him weirdly...The cloak/Gryffindor robe was worn after Halloween....
I think the ‘bad casting’ kind of adds to the story, with Gotham being a disorganized city with a lot of crime. A not-intimidating officer and a ‘weak’ DA fit that picture. It can make the audience feel helpless or frustrated even, the feeling that everything depends on Batman, who isn’t the perfect savior either. Kind of dark if you think about it that way
You got to be kidding me Are you going to defend every single thing in this bat movie This movie isn't flawless like most other movies These people in comments are talking about how everything is perfect and adds to it fuking hell this is making me mad
@@Sadgamer-143 Stop acting like a whiny kid and get it through your head that people can have different opinions. If they liked the movie then so be it.
@@Sadgamer-143 are you saying that most other movies are flawless? What? Perfection is a myth, an impossible goal that no one can ever achieve. This movie by no means is perfect but it was a good movie.
I watched this in the theater with some friends, and we lost it at the “AVEEEEEE MARIAAAAAAAAAAA” bit. The Riddler is peak comedy and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Just because there is CGI doesn't mean it won't look as good as real stuff... The time travel suits in Endgame looked %100 real and yet they were all computer generated. The CGI that looks best is the CGI you don't even notice to be CGI
And the real car jumping out of the explosion was digitally adjusted to better match the real car (they used a stunt version with bigger suspension for that stunt). There are also quite a lot of full CG shot or big augmentation to the original plate (adding rain, traffic, etc...), the explosion shot on location was much smaller and was augmented later on. It's not amazing because they hardly used any CGI, it's amazing because it was really well thought out and really well shot in conjunction with the stunt team, VFX team and cinematography.
I thought the Batmobile startup was fantastic. The thruster makes such a horrible, almost demonic noise, the engine roars, and it builds up to a tiny little jump forward just to intimidate the Penguin. I thought it was funny, it's like when you act like you're about to punch someone just to make them flinch

Dylan, the point of the bat signal is not just to tell Batman to meet up, it’s to strike fear into the hearts of the criminals. If they see the Bat signal, they will know that Batman is on the prowl and will be more afraid to do bad things
about the lack of sexual tension between Catwoman and Batman: That was OBVIOUSLY intentional. We've seen Robert Pattinson in several movies that included love stories. He can play the "being in love" part very well and from Twilight we also know that he can portray intentionally holding back those emotions (while Bella is still a weak human). If they WANTED sexual tension between catwoman and batman or reciprocated desire from batman, we would've gotten it. But this was supposed to be one sided on catwomans side
So, fun fact, Matt Reeves confirmed Batman's weird attempts to speak to Selina near the end when incapacitated (before he injects the adrenaline or whatever into his leg) was Bruce trying to tell Selina his name... Because he had fallen in love.
@@someone3195 I didn't say it was all good, bit as someone who also read the books, he portrayed that part of him perfectly. and that's just how I see it.
I agree wholeheartedly! Say about twilight what you will (though I love every part of it dearly so you won't find me speaking of it negatively haha), the book to movie adaption rate in terms of faithfulness is honestly executed perfectly!@@LouisaMarit
What i like about this Movie is that it doesn’t already shows Batman as the Master of his Work. He‘s 2 years in and not really experienced with Villains that big. It also shows that he isn’t the mysterious Hero, he‘s just a Dude/Detective in a Spandex with armor
this movie had a ton of good jokes and I think people miss because it’s not the typical superhero comedy like when the thumb drive scene happened I was the only person in the theater to audibly laugh both times I saw the movie in the theaters
My friend and I laughed so much at the thumb part lol but with the movie in general too, and the theatre was so quiet and didn't know why my friend and I thought certain scenes were so funny 😂
This Batman is the youngest of all the other Batmen hence all the angry, mistakes and complete lack of attempts to have a social life outside of Batman it's from the comics...This isn't a well seasoned vet yet, this is vengance and the end of this movie shows him taking his first step into the role.
I think some people took this movie too seriously bc it was supposed to be artsy and deep. The scene when Riddler was singing had me cackling and I got so many glares in the movies for that lmao
Nah these comments are wild. Ppl picking exact seconds of the movie and explaining exactly what that specific shot means in this and that way. Its so funny to read the fanboy comments
@@Relevart9169 its ok to analyse movies and media. that doesnt make someone pretentious. thats a massive part why the art exists. it might shock you to know that a lot of filmmakers pick certain shots intentionally and that they actually do have meaning.
you know it was intentionally funny right? and "supposed to be artsy and deep" i mean i loved the movie but it wasnt exactly an indie, arthouse flick. a movie can be multiple things at once too. like it can be funny and dramatic at the same time😱. its okay to have media literacy i promise you. dont dismiss things you dont understand as being 'artsy'
@@maisiemcd4342 i think the argument he's trying to make, which honestly i kinda agree with, is that this movie is considered by many as more than just a "superhero" movie, a 'masterpiece' that they jump to defend at any sort of criticism. It gets worse when a lot of the same fans will say you aren't mature enough to understand the movie if you didn't like it because they DO perceive it as an artsy movie, made for those of high intellect. This isn't a jab at you, just trying to explain why he's upset.
I think this movie had a wonderful grunge and emo vibe. There was a lot of funny camp which is a different but cool take combined with the serious themes of an obsessive rookie vigilante with Nirvana playing on the background. I loved the black makeup. I thought his serious face was intentional because this Bat couldn't be more brooding. One of my favorite moments was when Bruce put sunglasses on indoors. That was very tongue-in-cheek and aware.
The reason why Robert's Batman takes so many bullets/hits and runs through hallways, etc. instead of being this smooth Batman is because in this film Bruce has just been Batman for two years. He aint that experienced yet. So it's supposed to be a little awkward like that.
@@naqmcord but it is a video game clearly, otherwise he would’ve had damage, he isn’t Superman yet he keeps getting up and walking away from everything like he is, it takes you out the movie
I'm so happy to hear you mention My Name. That entire show hits every point - the action, the mood, the emotion. I am genuinely obsessed with how well it was made.
Actually that buildup with the penguin and the batmobile worked amazingly in the theater because it was so quiet and it built until the theater seats were literally shaking... So good. The only issue I had was that it was too long, they could have condensed the ending(s)
Agreed. After seeing it in theaters a total of three times, and several others at home, the scene is great but soooo long and at some points the additional cuts and long takes actually make it more difficult for me to follow the action personally

I think what people missed most about this movie is that this is a really young Batman. This is year 2 Batman. He's still learning the ropes. You can even see some of the hesitation Batman has before doing some stunts because he's probably never done anything like that before. He's basically still in training. We're so used to seeing Batman already knowing everything, knowing every corner and street of Gotham like for Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. Their Batmans were masters already. This is a first for a live action Batman to see him becoming who he's supposed to be and learning what Batman is. We gotta give Robert Pattinson more of a chance. I think he did amazingly as Batman/Bruce Wayne

I absolutely felt the tension in the Selina-spying scene. She's playing the role of an escort in a room full of drunk/high extremely powerful men and on TOP of that, she's spying. Like, I wouldn't even want to walk through that room.
I just realized this channel comforts me so much because I relate to Dylan being a giant mouthy nerd that noone seems to respect, but here all the followers appreciate the humor and jokes and it just makes me feel so much less alone if only to see someone I can relate to. Thank you Dylan. Seriously. I know heart felt really isn't this channels theme but thank you. Seriously.
Also, the serum he took was just epinephrine/adrenaline (confirmed by the director). The double barrel to the chest broke like 3 ribs and just about knocked him out. He literally didn’t have the strength to pull himself up while hanging, or stand when Catwoman was attacked. So he needed a little boost. While epinephrine is clear is real life, it was colored green for dramatic effect, similar to how the C4 explosives were all giant fireballs, when C4 is essentially flameless in reality.
So the cutting the electrical wire scene. I think the reason it is so dramatic is because Batman (not Batman, Vengence) technically died when he fell in the water. When he emerged, it's like when a baby is baptized. He was reborn as the Batman after rising from that water. Before, he was just a tool for fear. But he became a beacon of hope by the end, that overhead shot with him leading those people out with a flare is one of my favorite scenes in movies ever
i was also as confused as he is about why it was so dramatic. I don't normally notice those things but I was so confused why it was going on for so long lmao
I also liked that in the beginning, we see him hiding in dark places, literally a shadow. But him with the flare guiding those people, he literally became a light to them.
17:40 fun fact, they actually used a special LED screen setup to film this scene so that they had a lot more time to film it. Its the same setup that they used on the mandalorian to film a lot of scenes and its really cool to see it used in more movies to get really interesting backgrounds for important scenes.
If he cuts the cord, the part that falls into the water is no longer electrical, so it wont electrocute anyone in the water. it wasnt about dropping the extra weight, it was about severing the cord and therefore cutting off the electricity & its ability to become lethal in the water.
When I was watching it, at first I knew he was thinking about the electricity, but then I get distracted or something and I thought he just did a lot of dramatic stuff just to fall into the water. My friend had to explain it to me😂

@@NA22427 That was a religious motif. It was his baptism. Batman had just come to the realization that he needed to be more than just vengeance, and in that scene, falling into the water, he is reborn as hope. It's the climax in Batman's character arc. The kid being the first to trust him and take his hand in the following scene further accentuates not only Batman's character development, but also his change in image in the eyes of the people he's trying to protect, a stark contract to the beginning of the movie, when even the people he saved were scared of him. Reeves could not have possibly made the motifs more obvious. There's only so much you can spell out for the audience.
@@whale2269 yeah it was the first moment he decided to save people rather than just pursue a target. this movie is quite a bit more deep than the other super hero movies that have come out as of late. i think people hear batman and expect spectacle but this movie was a lot more like Seven than Avengers.
The reason why the guy says “who the hell are you supposed to be” is because it’s Halloween night. And Batman at this time is very elusive and not everyone knows what he looks like exactly. Also, the serum, I thought, was implying that it’s venom(?) from bane. But I think the writers said it’s just adrenaline… although I think they’re up to something lol
This was by far my second favorite Batman movie, just behind Dark Knight. I’m excited to see how they continue this iteration of young Batman. This was also the first movie (if I’m not mistaken) where it really shows Batman being “the world’s best detective”. It’s also SUPER refreshing to see a darker, more serious superhero movie. I’m so over the Marvel way of doing superhero movies.
I haven't seen many people talk about this: so I know a lot of people thought there was no chemistry between Batman and Cat Woman, but realizing that Cat Woman was into stray cats and taking care of them, and that goes to show how even though there didn't seem to be any intimacy between her and Batman it's almost as if she saw him as a stray. Which is is why she was attracted to him. She was attracted to the mystery behind him, and that would explain why she wasn't big into trying to find out who he was under the mask. I hope this makes sense lol.
That’s how I read it too. That line said a lot without saying too much, at least in my opinion. Like she kind of recognizes without realizing it that he’s like her and so there’s just this sort of instant bond between the two of them because they’re so similar even though they’re kind of on opposite sides.
He understands that but there is the part they used as message, like when Catwoman signals, batman and officer thought the other one did it. They can just send email or something.

I watch a lot of kdramas and I've heard of My Name and it's hype but never really been drawn to it but Dylan mentioning My Name totally made me wanna watch it! Also I was also looking for comments about this mention and this is the only one that I found.... :D
I saw this 2x in the movie theatre when it came out. It doesn't feel long. It doesn't need to be trimmed. It's somber but still has humor. The action is well done and the acting is great. The original soundtrack is top tier. There's so much to love about The Batman.
Does anyone get how hilarious Pattinson being Batman is? He played Edward. A vampire. Also associated with bats. Batman was actually rumoured to be a vampire. Heck he was one in comics.
Hufflepuff are particularly good finders and Batman is a detective. And while Hufflepuff’s symbol is the European Badger badgers are still badass and they share the same family as the Wolverine another badass creature.
ik ur job is to be funny and that's why I follow you but god this opening sequence of the batman narration is literally perfection. the warning, the shadows, all of it is so well done

the "serum" is just adrenaline, i think. And he cut the cord because with the water rising, it would have eventually touched the surface and electrocuted everyone in the water. So while it shocked him cutting it, he did it to save everyone else. A lot of his "weakness" is willingness to take hits. He's reckless and doesn't care if he dies. He has a lack of fear that ironically makes him a worse fighter-- not unlike The Dark Knight Rises. He only has a vague idea of what he wants to do, and is primarily motivated by anger and vengeance, and that's exactly what everyone sees him as, including the people he's trying to help. Hence the guy in the beginning begging him not to hurt him, and his reaction to the Riddler's follower saying "I'm Vengeance." That's when he realizes what he really is, and what he's done wrong.
A lot of people get so weird about long runtimes in certain movies but I think this one is a clear example of why that can be a good thing; shots are held for longer periods than in other movies, especially without dialogue, but that isn't a useless device - it helps to communicate things subtly, build tension, atmosphere, blah blah, but it can also really help an audience to digest what they're seeing as things play out. And then especially if that slow pace switches to something really fast-paced - like the car chase scene - it REALLY feels like a change in pace, which just adds to the effect.
I think some shots could've been cut. Some parts felt really long and for all the plot they didn't give Batman much of a personality. Also if they cut the romance and just kept them as allies I would've been more satisfied.
@@yukikanegawa7470 I think if their romance had been cut it would've been good too, or at least if they had maybe tried it a bit differently - or just built it up over a few movies or something :)
26:35 little explanation: when the water floods the arena, batman cuts the cable (and falls into the water) because, as you can see, it sparks, and as the projector reaches the water (since there is still electricity in it) due to the circumstances (the building has a lot of metal support poles, etc.) the water there would conduct electricity so fast that everyone below would die instantly
To me this Batman is perfect. He's young, full of grief, anger, no real will to live, reckless and immature. Here he's learning how to be a hero and maturing to become THE Batman. Amazing amazing job!
I was thinking how easily they could have made this a comedy, too. A man in a bat suit at a crime scene is low-key funny. When Gordon and Batman were questioning Penguin it was downright hilarious.
In this movie, the bat signal is used more as a warning sign to criminals in order to scare them, which I really like. I found it really interesting. I don't know if the bat signal has been used in that way before, but I like that they added that element to the movie ,it's really cool.
It always had been for letting criminals know batman is out. And even if it wasn't intended. Seeingagiant bat in the clouds and then a man in bat suit appear from darkness pretty much sums it haha
Was about to say the same. For years I failed to see how the criminals of Gotham could be afraid of a vigilante in bat suit. I didn't see it as practical and saw it as silly but the batman helped me realise that the signal, the suit, the lurking in the shadows, It's all about building this fear complex. They never know where he is, Some don't even know what he is "but when that light hits the sky, it's not just a signal, it's a warning"
i've been going through a rough time lately but i love the batman and i love ur videos so i just want to say thx dylan if by any chance u see this, it was just what i needed to cheer me up :)
26:45 The "serum" he took was a mix of epinephrine and adrenaline, to overcome the pain and probably significant internal injuries he had from tanking a pair of 12 gauge shotgun blasts at near-point-blank range (that probably cracked his sternum and a few ribs)...the cord he cut was live and dangling inches above the waterline, if it touched the water everybody in the water would've been fried.
Honestly I was confused about it too since it was green and my first thought was "Venom?" cause Bruce gets a venom addiction in the comics at one point as a result of how much easier it'd be if he was just He eventually gets over it which would be interesting to see. A batman getting over an addiction while dealing with other threats?
@WraithWTF epinephrine = adrenaline, and it's a clear liquid, not green. The green = magic juice that made up for the disabling wounds you described (don't google 12 gauge injuries -oh, see? told you not to). Just let the movie have some magic, trying to explain it with real-world info invariably goes wrong. @Esther Ruth and @LaraS you are totally correct.
But I like the fact that this Batman is imperfect in his abilities but still just as dangerous. I mean it’s supposed to be year 2 Batman so I get that he’s not perfect.

yee this is meant to build into him using his bruce identity more in the next one since technically this whole thing could've been avoided if he actually met with the accountant
Some differences that makes this one stand out from the others: Other variants had him with an entire team of scientists who put his gadgets together for him. In here, he makes them himself. I seem to remember in others, Gordon simply slipped him case files, and he did the work on his own time. In here, he's actually working with the cops and going to crime scenes. Not to mention he demonstrates a knowledge of forensics. Also speaks directly to people who claim Batman sucks as a hero because Gotham is still crime ridden: how is he supposed to clean up Gotham when the entire system is corrupted?
You can't exactly change a whole dang city with just a flip with your hand. Gotham is already so corrupted and Batnan could only do so much to lessen it or to make its people feel more safe living there

20:53 I heard a lot of other men, say the same thing, but for me, this was one of the more terrifying scenes in the movie. Most of the women I’ve talked to have agreed that a normal human being who can overpower me is way more terrifying than the in-human strength of a comic book villain. In the theater, I literally felt the air leave my lungs. I think that’s probably why “the invisible man” scared me so much as well. It was realistic.
"My Name" did a amazing execution with the plot and ending, the cost for what she wanted was such an incredibly sad. You can see her reality shift once again, and vengeance this time is boiling inside of her.
' my name' is such a great drama and the violence is just so well done and it is shown amazingly. so thanks dylan for mentioning that! some scenes in batman were amazingly done whereas some scenes to me were like... uh could have done that better.
yesss it was so well done, everything came together perfectly and the attention to detail with the cinematography and acting. Had me in tears and how I felt sad but satisfied by the end
Yes and as a big time kdrama fan, I'd go as far to say my name deserves more recognition than squid game, in fact there are so many more dramas better than squid game bruh..
I like this movie because of how much of a departure it is from previous batman movies, who seem to forget that Batman isn't just a ninja, he's a detective. Seeing that in a murder mystery style movie is really cool. And it's also year 2 batman and I'm all for young, angry batman. It also has my favorite batmobile because it's not some sort of Wayne Tech super tank. The batmobile in this movie actually looks like batman could have built it himself and that's awesome.
Dylan would actually be pretty good as a voice actor. His voice is so animated on its own. I could see him playing the class clown in a school-based anime or something… is it just me?
BRO, DYLAN AND I HAD THE E X A C T SAME REACTION TO THE JOKER AT THE END, I SWEAR TO GOD, HE SAID IT BEST, THEY'VE GONE DOWN THAT WELL TOO MANY TIMES GOD DAMN IT. Amazing video :)
When he cut the wire at the end, he was keeping everyone from being electrocuted. If a live wire had touched the water, everyone IN the water would have been fried. He had to electrocute himself to save everyone else below, so that's why that happened.
I think my favorite scene was one Dylan skipped over. When Bats is escaping the police station via grappling gun, dozens of officers are just shooting upward. As if gravity is optional. Like their colleagues aren't standing on the staircase above them. Like, everybody should've had mandatory retraining on gun safety.
the whole riddler Arkham scene was actually hilarious I couldn’t stop laughing in the theatre and when he seriously said I’m vengeance as well like what the hell💀
I loved your point about golden hour shots but most of those shots, specifically the one you were referring to was shot on a soundstage using a Volume and the sunset is actually a background on a bunch of LED screens that they built in a video game engine, that's how they get the natural lighting. I was amazed when I found out, they look phenomenal I think they might be the first MOVIE to do it (relax mandolorian fans). Same reason they didn't do the batmobile flying through the air shot with the penguin in it, he wasn't on location at the time. The BTS video is on HBO's channel if anyones interested.
When I watched it on opening night I laughed out loud a lot. I got the vibe that everyone in the theater with me was scared to laugh but I was like GUYS THAT WAS A JOKE it’s ok to laugh! The humor are so good and so well placed, this film is just expertly crafted overall.
I actually sounded like a psychopath laughing at the jokes in the theater because I was the only one laughing. Oh well, I guess I'm the only one who remembers that Batman used to be funny on occasion.
I saw the movie 3 times in theaters and the only improvements I can think of are having Gordon not talk so low and making Riddler the son of the journalist/reporter who was killed by Falcone for Thomas Wayne. I enjoyed every moment, immensely, and would've sat there for 4 hours. This Catwoman is the most comic accurate and just overall best, and Catwoman and Batman finally have that dynamic they do in the comics.
I would say the only thing I disliked about this movie is how riddlers motivations for the whole movie are remove the corruption from Gotham and then in the last act it switches to just complete terrorism and kill as many civilians as possible
@@ryanward5770 Well he is a psycho. Right idea, horrible methods. It's pointed out in his goon saying "I am vengeance" and reflects Batman's current state of mind, hence his growth.
Another point I would add is Annika's death being the reason they find out Falcone is the rat. Like maybe batman/Bruce goes to see Maroni in prison to find out about his father and filling in the dots that way. And even show batman interrogate more corrupt cops like Kenzie
I agree. Once the reporter was mentioned, I thought Riddler was his son. It would’ve been really cool thematically. We see varying degrees of wronged children and orphans with Falcone as the center. Selina’s quest for vengeance for her mother, and how she ultimately decides not to kill Falcone. Bruce’s overall anger and guilt from his parents’ deaths and what his father did to cover his ass and Martha’s. Whereas Riddler ends up killing Falcone and targeting those he felt wronged him. It’d be even more personal if he was the reporter’s son, showing how Batman and Riddler are two sides of the same coin in a way.
