It is my pleasure to have shared these videos, and I am very happy that so many people have viewed them. Nobu is indeed a treasure of Japan, and those of us outside are grateful to be able to enjoy his talent. Thank you!
That's it for now. I thank everyone who took time to watch these videos, and for your great comments. If I could, I would bestow an Emmy on those who made the original documentary -- a masterpiece that could only have come from people who truly love classical music and Nobuyuki Tsujii! Bravos, bravos.
I thank you ever so much for the videos. Nobu has brought such joy into my life with his awesome expertise at the piano. As I have been a pianist I know the work that he has put into his craft and I applaud him to the moon and back. He is so awesome and never makes a mistake. I am blown away with his skill and sharing
Mr. Tsujii has his own melody and a world of music. Mr. Tsujii's music played by Bechstein on the shores of Lake Lucerne is very beautiful. This trip will inspire Mr. Tsujii and the music will be deeper. Thank you M.L.Liu for your videos .
This performance is now my favorite of this concerto. I think Nobu tends to be fast push performer but every conductor has his/her own different pitch, and Nobu collaborates so beautifully. I just wish I could hear the entire performance. He is just so amazing. thank you for uploading these segments!!!
I am sorry that only the endings of mvts 2 & 3 are included. Nobu is performing Rach 2 regularly, and there are other recordings of the full performance. I urge you to see him perform it live.
When God blows a little bit of his breath towards people who seem impossible to do anything. Then, we Biggin to see miracles through those impaired people 🎉 NO BODY ELSE IS ABLE TO DO THAT, BUT GOD HIMSELF!!
ME...to the rescue...for those who happen to be unable to understand Japanese: 8:21 Nobu: Oh, I felt that...we really did become one with the music and all, and...er...I was really happy about that, too. 8:28 Nobu: And er...I believe we managed to perform what was truly, originally expressed in the music of Rachmaninoff. 8:34 Nobu: And..yes, it was really, REALLY nice playing great music with those musicians here today ! :) 8:38 - 8:41 Nobu: I also sensed great excitement from the attentive audience back there... 8:42 - 8:45 Nobu: ..especially when we were going through the last few minutes of the finale. 8:46 Nobu: Yeah...that was really GREAT ! :) 9:38 - 9:47 Nobu: It was nice to find out that all those great composers and artists actually found their inspiration spending time in this beautiful country of Switzerland... 9:48 - 9:52 Nobu: where everything is fresh, green and beautiful. 9:53 - 9:58 Nobu: And...those composers and musicians' extraordinary musical talent has... 9:59 - 10:04 Nobu: also become something that motivates me to do a better job. 10:05 Nobu: Well, my musical inspiration for composition and performing better music often comes from my vivid recollection of visiting those beautiful countries like Switzerland. So, this trip has become... 10:11 Nobu: truly... 10:12 Nobu: truly... 10:13 Nobu: memorable days of my life. :') Note: Those who might be wondering about Nobu's Japanese. - His Japanese is basically very, very polite ( except when he speaks to animals like Mr Swan. Haha... At THAT time, he spoke Japanese that was less formal, almost like talking to cute little children, sounding a little child-like himself, too. Simply adorable. ) - The grammar is perfect. No wonder his mother was once working as a professional news-reader.
SO happy that you're happy for this ! :D Just wondering if the translation was okay even for your English ears though... * is fiddling with the hem of sleeve *
If you want to know what Nobu says at the end, please scroll down to see the comment from @GirlFromNippon. We owe her a BIG, BIG thanks! I will work on putting the translations up on screen. But in her post you can click on each time mark to get to the exact spot where the words are said!
Subtitles have been added for the translations of what Nobu says at the end (8:21 and 9:38) - please turn on Closed Caption (CC) to view them, if you wish. Credit for the excellent translation goes to @GirlFromNippon
At 8:09 the conductor, after guiding Nobu backstage, holds both hands up on his face as if to take a deep breath. He was nervous. This must have been the first of the two performances. :-)
